Been years since Invention came out, so you've had years to prep for the new skill. There was always a risk that the new skill would cost money, so I don't think it is unfair that those 5.4bers who were sensible enough to make bank in-case the new skill required it have an advantage - nothing was stopping you grinding out GP too.

Having said that, you're a legend of the game mate, in the same bracket as people like Telmomarques, Timlahaye, Aasiwat etc. So I wouldn't worry too much if you don't make top page this time around.

It's not about that though, its that he should be able to compete and the way that the skill is designed makes it impossible for those without not just bank, but 10s of billions of spare gp to spend on this gathering skill to be able to compete with those who have unreasonable amounts of gp.

Ah but there is one thing that sets Drumgun apart from all the others and that's that he can play Castle Wars :D

Honestly, the OP sounds really whiny in my opinion. He's basically saying that the entire skill is broken (and Jagex corrupt), just because he doesn't have the funds to compete on the rank 1 race and/or that the skill isn't specifically designed according to his own personal way of playing. Oh come on.

A skill should not be balanced around the very few people who race it to 200m nolifing 24/7. The vast majority of players on this game do not have that luxury or any kind of interest in engaging in such a niche, single occurrence activity. A skill should be balanced around the average casual player for it to be healthy in the long term.

The complete tome isn't as much of a boost as you say it is. Yes, Archaeology has an RNG component to it so if you get lucky on tomes and tetracompass pieces (which in turn give you more tomes) you'll train slightly faster, but it's comparable to playing your daily challenges right and ultimately, in the race to 200m experience, it doesn't matter.

As for the skill being a buyable gatherer, this is not much different from how Divination was at release. You need money to follow the most efficient training path. You can choose the cheap path and train the skill self-sufficiently but you will be slower. The only difference now is it's been four years since the last skill, and in those four years many players have been farming money fountains such as Telos and Aod, so they're prepared to buy their entire way through. It's an unfortunate side-effect of PvM dominating this game and this wasn't the case (at least not so much) before Divination, I guess.

Were you underprepared? I still don't understand what you meant by "Jagex have sold out".
