I feel a bit sad while writing this. I was lvl 63 Arch, fully invested / prepared in it (1m+ chins, porters, bought D mattock early etc.). Haven't slept yet and if you know me, then you know that I could easily keep that up for another few days without sleep, then do some 4h sleep days and then rinse/repeat for however long a skill takes to train to 200m xp. So getting rank 1 isn't the problem per say.

The thing that I have a problem with is that by analyzing the entire concept of this skill, one thing becomes very clear: Jagex have sold out. As soon as I realized this, I sold all of said items and that was it. I refuse to suffer for Jagex's mistakes any longer, which players who love the game have to pay the price for. So what are the 2 key factors which make me feel this way?

1) The RNG-ness of the skill, in particular the huge xp boost which the "Completed Tome" item gives to people who keep getting it.
2) It's a gathering skill but not only is it buyable, you need a HUGE amount of money to upkeep the boost items bought with Chronotes, which add another considerable xp/h boost to training it.

Omid mentioned that "Chronotes being buyable is 1 of the things I dislike about this skill the most" and that is exactly the thing which breaks this skill, as it did invention. Why is the skill designed like this and how is Jagex punishing the "real" players by this? Because the RS3 Economy is completely F'd. It's F'd with money generated through non legit methods / bots / TH. So it looks like the plan is to add a crazy gp/xp gimmick to upkeep until 200m to every skill that they will release ever since invention, because they need to create huge money sinks.

The ones who can benefit from this are the players who just played RS "auction house tycoon" style and are only doing this to boost their ego, rather than having love for the game. Tons of unlegitly generated money in the game and abusing supply and demand (monopolize rares) = you can get crazy amounts of money without any real effort put in. Astronomical numbers which cannot be obtained in another way.

I don't want to rag on Jagex THAT hard because obviously the fight against bots is a continiuous one and they've taken some measures against it, but that doesn't change the facts of the state that RS3 is in. The whole corona situation is blooming those facts when you look at current numbers online, but this skill was supposed to make or break the future of RS3 in my opinion. Are players going to stick around to train this? No, I don't think so because for these players the core training method is pretty barebones atm (it'll become better but months later), the xp is slower than what they're used to compared to modern RS3 xp/h rates, and they don't really have players to look up to anymore compared to the pre-2015 era. Meanwhile, the serious players who'd also be top page if the skill was like oldschool agility, mining, rc etc. are now simply priced out of even a gathering skill which is too easy to not be able to train for many hours a day despite the slow xp/h.

I wasn't able to log in for 2 hours upon the skill's release by the way, and I was told by a J-mod (and I quote): "Damn, tbh the hours you put in I wouldn't be too worried". Yeah, that's true but it's about the amount of effort and stress is huge as you can probably imagine. The buyable / RNG aspect will add around 4-5h worth of more xp per day and it's not hard to play this semi afk, non engageable skill for 15h/day backed with screwed economy money in comparison.

Feelsbad for streamers like Omid / Maikeru as well because they would obviously want to get rank 1 but both already announced that they likely won't be getting it despite trying. In the normal scenario they'd get 'out-nolifed' over time by me but now they will simply get out-money'd and I feel like that's somehow more discouraging, especially considering that it's a slow xp gathering skill if you disregard the skewing factors. Welp, good luck with that. Stay safe everyone.

Yes I agree the skill is too much like Invention. Too much about money and fast experience if you have gotten certain items. Not that I really liked Divination that much. But the race to 99 was fun. It was the old Runescape grind where it was about companionship more than winning. Cannot believe I actually got 99 in two weeks. Not that it was a big deal. But a record, for me. Invention took me two years to get 120, with it only being 80mil experience.

oh yeah. weird. drumgun isn't wrong, and I think I'd rather reply here than start my own thread, but my feedback is different.

similar to OP Im at right at lv 63 and not liking how suddenly I realize I am half what people who bought chronotes off GE and drank tea the whole way did. no idea what that woulda cost, but in my case it means I sold half my chronotes and it pretty neatly makes up for the times I needed to buy a few materials to restore artefacts.

to be fair its not a bad design of a skill... I know those guys doin max hp an hr forfeit a lot of the log ticking off theyre all gonna need to do later to keep trim, but...

I was super proud of myself for breeding two shiny cows for me and buddy in 24 hrs cause I had elder radiant cows at ready and we knew theyd be killed, so I bred 2 disposable shinies, and now I hear murmur thats getting nerfed. aww. now I see why choobs gaining 60m every 8 hrs or so would bug y'all, but thats not stopping them from doing 200m every 8 hrs hoovering white oaks and the like from ice mountain. Y'all coulda just made shiny cows temp untradeable or something. idk. I mean... I was ready for that one. oh well.

but yeah it has a clunk where you hit early 60s and yer confined to one small area with all the other stuff quashed behind you. this is perhaps where I am supposed to stop and figure out if "summoning research" means something... but its not alerting me like other things. idk.
I have quit rsof because moderator found comments about darklight bonus damage on demons "off topic" for wildy flash mobs full of demons
