Anyone wanna take a bet on what kind of numbers we're expecting from the vote, I'm willing to wager that there'll be between 86% - 92% yes, not sure why those numbers but it feels like a good bet. I hope it's around those numbers anyway.

Doubt it'll be that high, personally. 65% - 75%, maybe.

Can't say I agree with the thought process behind your vote – I suppose I understand why you think your choice will have the effects you hope it does... not sure if that's necessarily true though. To sum it up, you're basically saying a large majority in favour of 'yes' will give way to a 'slippery slope' for 'left' political laws/etc to become the norm?

Not the norm as per slippery slope theory, the Australian parliament is to full of old dinosaurs for such a revolution (hence why we're so late and so hesitant to talk about marriage equality) , so much as I'm worried about them receiving less scrutiny by the opposition when they are tabled for fear of adopting that negative association of the 'no voter', and hence losing public support. In addition to this, I'm also concerned about the increased leverage that activist groups will have on politics on these issues now that they have a foot in the door.

Currently, I have two chief political concerns in Australia, one of which is the proliferation of leftist ideologies in state schools. It might make me a heretic to the cause to say this, but personally I'm not in favor of the complete erasure of gender lines or the full erosion of traditionalism, so my vote is for continued scrutiny of these policies in the face of a shifting political landscape.

^Uuugh I saw that.

I do get the direction that Wiener (unfortunate last name, hope this guy becomes president) is coming from, but I'm not sure that people are going to be content with a a criminal charge either way, no matter what it's severity (hence why capital punishment doesn't work...). I would expect any decent human being, regardless of their sexual orientation, who believes they may be infected with a transmittable disease to get checked.

Even if medical science has progressed toward mostly eliminating HIV symptomology, that doesn't make it any more OK to express the utter contempt for the lives of others that someone would need to possess in order to willingly infect someone in the first place. I'de say this is bad news for everybody.

As for intersex, that seem's to be more based on physical manifestations of sexual duality, such as being hermaphroditic.

Quoting from the Wikipedia page about intersex:

In biological terms, sex may be determined by a number of factors present at birth, including:

the number and type of sex chromosomes;
the type of gonads—ovaries or testicles;
the sex hormones;
the internal reproductive anatomy (such as the uterus in females); and
the external genitalia.

People whose characteristics are not either all typically male or all typically female at birth are intersex.

Some intersex traits are not always visible at birth; some babies may be born with ambiguous genitals, while others may have ambiguous internal organs (testes and ovaries). Others will not become aware that they are intersex unless they receive genetic testing, because it does not manifest in their phenotype.

If you are intersex (physical condition), you may be transgender (i.e. your experience of who you are differs from the gender you were assigned at birth), or you may identify with whichever gender you were assigned.

People with ambiguous genitals used to be given 'corrective' surgery, but increasingly it's left until the person can make a choice for themselves.

So intersex people can encounter issues that overlap with those faced by transgender people, but you can be either without being the other.
