Anyone wanna take a bet on what kind of numbers we're expecting from the vote, I'm willing to wager that there'll be between 86% - 92% yes, not sure why those numbers but it feels like a good bet. I hope it's around those numbers anyway.
Personally, I voted no (put down your pitchforks, read the whole post) . That said, I didn't vote that way because I necessarily don't agree with the topic statement myself, and given my sexual persuasion it's really in my interest to vote yes. The reason I voted the way I did was because I don't like the narrative surrounding the vote, in a situation like this where the topic of debate is a change of lawful definition I believe there is only opinions, there is no right and wrong answer, however that was not the case with the debate.
I feel as though there was a characterization of no voters as the bad guys, as though a no vote was inherently wrong or the incorrect choice, and that people who held that opinion were being shamed for the way they felt. On top of this, although I lean progressive, I'm acutely aware of the dangers of unchecked progressivism and social upheaval such as we've seen in the US. To that end, although I hope the vote is passed and the LGBT crowd get full marriage rights, I felt it was important to provide a dissenting voice to make the government see that universal social change is not acceptable.
