Rares are now crashing, santa went down 400m in a day, red hween is down 150m in a day and blue is down 100m in a day.

Of course. Players are panicing and we don't know exactly what was duped and in what numbers because Jagex isn't transparent.

I wouldn't recommend holding GP right now though, as that was what was mostly duped (thus the recent massive inflation) but we all have our own theories.

I personally think rares are still in a pretty good position. Even despite the dupe, a lot of accounts that stored their duped GP into rares will be banned, so supply could even become less.

Great buying opportunity in a few days when these items tank even more.

This game is really dying, witness the end.

I agree with this. Any rares on the accounts of those involved with duping will no longer be in game. I believe I have read before that Jagex does not reintroduce items from banned accounts. Over the next week or so would be a good time to buy.

They said before that if an account holding significant amounts of rares is banned they would consider putting those items on the GE. This, however, with suspected duplicated items, is a lot less likely.

What impact this has on the market depends on how many of those items were put back in circulation and will be removed or returned to circulation in the future. This could go either way, honestly.

The only thing I do know is that these guys stored a lot of the gp they were duping into rare items they could later sell so they didn't crash the price of gold, as rare items retain their value even if you inflate GP. But who knows.

Also note that the dupe happened three weeks ago. Any real market impact is already here. Items went up, not down, if that says anything.

It was really insignificant amount of money injected to the economy, lower rares price was bloated anyway so its not like the price is going to magically go up because the artificial demand of dupers buying lower rares is now gone.

The dupe happened around May 30th, 3 weeks have passed by and Runescape had more of the chance to control the duping of 'items' but not GP. I'm sure it shouldn't be hard to track items compared to GP. The reason why Santa's have been going up during the past 3 weeks.

Why did Santa's go so high to 1.7-1.8bill when it was recently 1bill? More money went into the game, thus increasing purchasing power.

#1 theory: Dupers have been buying out "AUTHENTIC" Santa hats to hoard while making it look like merchants are increasing it.

#2 theory: Dupers have been buying "Authentic" Santa hats to make it harder to track the duped GP, making it harder to track the trillions that have entered Runescape.

#3 Theory: after the hoarding of Santa hats by the Dupers, the purchaser will be banned, thus losing the Santa hats and making Hats rarer.

Any more theories ?

Well 'rarer' in the sense of word that its no longer available but even if they managed to hoard thousands of santas it doesnt affect much to santas rarity status. one of only rares ive seen big stacks of, remember time when one person collected 10k santas and couldnt drive the price past green hween, then she got hacked if i remember correctly. anyone know or remember her name?
1k and there is santas 60k? Since they said black santas 1/6 red santas and some1 was calculating drop rate was supose to be around 10k black ones

Ah i see and yeah, for the items price history 60k sounds about right.
