This game is really dying, witness the end.

I agree with this. Any rares on the accounts of those involved with duping will no longer be in game. I believe I have read before that Jagex does not reintroduce items from banned accounts. Over the next week or so would be a good time to buy.

They said before that if an account holding significant amounts of rares is banned they would consider putting those items on the GE. This, however, with suspected duplicated items, is a lot less likely.

What impact this has on the market depends on how many of those items were put back in circulation and will be removed or returned to circulation in the future. This could go either way, honestly.

The only thing I do know is that these guys stored a lot of the gp they were duping into rare items they could later sell so they didn't crash the price of gold, as rare items retain their value even if you inflate GP. But who knows.

Also note that the dupe happened three weeks ago. Any real market impact is already here. Items went up, not down, if that says anything.

I meant to quote your previous post to the one I accidentally quoted. I have been gone for almost 4 hours and didn't realize the mistake till just now.

Jagex clearly doesnt watch the market very closely. Would it be that hard to have some system in place that detects suspicious amounts of gp/items coming into the game in a short amount of time? Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make something like that. Also wouldn't it be a good idea to have at least 1 or 2 people at the office during the night. I heard these people watched the discord and waited for the jmods to log off and go home. I guess it just depends on how much they care.

I've seen people opining about weather if it's simple to implement item tracking or not. I don't know if someone is aware of how runescape economy is implemented (code wise). I am not aware. Weather if it's simple or not I would say it depends on how the system is implemented right now.

Jagex has this big responsability of preventing any mess with the gameplay. This is essential to players. This is also not an easy task I imagine. Remember that real life banks are being hacked everyday, yup it's real.

I was not aware about these glitches, it seem to have happened about 7 months ago in osrs, and it's known to happen across multiple online games (duping)

I try to have a constructive opinion so runescape can continue healthy on the future, and I suggest to the community to consider this. So we can continue to meet in runescape :)

I guess I was mainly trying to make the point that sometime in the new few days/week would be a good time to buy. But, that's just my opinion.

Regardless of what was actually duplicated, and in what numbers, any mention of duplication is going to cause a massive selloff and panic in this market, because it creates a huge amount of uncertainty. Jagex's lack of transparency doesn't help the situation, either. The fact that this all happened about three weeks ago, and was hushed up, and we had to find out essentially from the hackers themselves bragging about what they had done doesn't give investors any sort of confidence.

A few important facts:

1. It was mostly trillions of gp in the form of shards that were primarily duplicated
2. This gp was then stored in legitmate discontinued items, and with the plan to sell it for RWT (this is why items have gone up so hard and fast, as they bought up the supply and literally had endless amounts of gold to throw into rares)
3. The dupe happened three weeks ago, and items have continued to rise despite it. The market has already absorbed any influx of supply of items and gp, and already adjusted, with these items actually becoming worth more.
4. Depending on the amount of bans that are dealt out for this, we could actually end up with less of these items than before the duplication, as these guys invested heavily in legitimate rares, and those items will leave the game forever.

All that said, my thoughts are that rare items will be dumped en masse in the next coming days. You can already see people dumping right now. That will cause a decline in price, which could present a great buying opportunity. Whereever the bottom is is anyone's guess ... these items now have 'dupe stigma' fixed onto them, that will persist for some time, sort of like purple partyhats from the 2003 duplication. Markets are largely psychological, and this event will hurt the market for a while.

My last theory :

Duped happened on May 30th 2020.
Price of Santa Hats 1.15Bill

Current price pre-post of Pugger 1.7-1.8bill

#1 Duped rares & gp/Shards
Effect 1: Prices of rares would be mass sold in GE during those times of May 31st - June 16th

Effect 2: Dupers keep the duped rares to sell to RWT, GP/Shards are used to purchase more rares to add to the mix thus increasing prices of Santa hats and other rares

Effect 3: Dupers RWT the GP/Shards and rares, and the money is on the RWT account still.

Answers: banned dupers & the purchasers?

hypothesis: If Santas for an example were duped, then why did it go up to 1.7-1.8?

Answer: Merchants most likely be included, Dupers purchasing rares w/ duped "GP/Shards" making it harder to trace?

Conclusion: Maybe rares weren't affected as much as GP/Shards' value?
Conclusion: Less rares in the game due to the dupers because of getting banned by Jagex [IF dupers purchased rares to hoard/RWT]

Post Price of 1.3-1.35bill [Santa Hat]

Personal Opinion: Doubt dupers duped a lot of rares, and more of GP/Shards, thus increasing the price of rares [purchasing power]

Any more theories ?

I think they use the rare market to launder the coins beeing made by the dupe into legit merchant profits.
