No phats entered the game the last two weeks according to jagex live stream. The mod was referring to the video wich involved a yellow phat.

Well, yes, but this bug was exploited three weeks ago .... lol. They're being very careful with their wording.
I'm known as Rich King Midas, and when you look at me, you'll see a king who knows a thing about his treasury. I never cared for women. I've never cared for wine. But when I count a large amount of money - ha ha - it's divine!

Issue is the bug is probably not completely fixed, they just keep trying to add patches and patches to avoid this to happen but it just makes it harder to happen but not impossible.
Think they'd need some engine rework for 0% chance of this happening again... idk though thats the information i managed to collect so far

"Hello everyone,

Just wanted to hop in and clarify what happened over the weekend in question, and where we are now.We identified some worlds going down overnight between Friday and Saturday as the result of a sustained attack on said worlds; we took immediate action across multiple vectors within 24 hours in order to ensure that they didn't go down again, negating the possibility of the dupe.

We subsequently added in further preventative measures in the Monday game update of June 1st (hence why the update was later than usual) and we already have further protective steps sitting with QA for implementation in the future.

As a direct result of the investigation so far, we've removed billions of GP from the game, on top of the trillions already removed in the past year from other real-world trading offences - and further investigations are still taking place. We believe the impact to the economy is minimal, but will examine that further.

We will be looking to better align security processes across our titles to ensure continuity, and would like to apologise to anyone who was impacted over the weekend with the server outages.

Finally, let's talk about communication. We totally understand where you're coming from on this. When it comes to security issues that do not directly impact player account security, it's our policy to not provide a stage for such actions at any time. We don't want to exacerbate an issue by putting a spotlight on it, nor do we want to entice attention-seeking activities for notoriety. The tough part about this is approach is the net result to the rest of you in terms of what we say. Frankly, it's a very fine line to walk - we may not quite be right in the ideal middle yet, and we'll think about it more following this, for sure."

I wouldn't doubt it. It's likely part of the legacy portion of game code. Fixing it 100% would likely create other exploits for awhile. Patch work tends to get sloppy, but rewrites can become super risky.

We should all keep in mind that it may not be straightforward to implement item count alerts in Runescript. It might be. But it might not. External integration with other programming languages might also not be easy to do. Though they do have the ability to track volume changes as shown by the Grand Exchange tracker. This may not extend to P2P trades though.

I did not think we would still be having issues like this in game but it appears these things will continue to crop up from time to time. I do remember noticing trouble logging in several times a few weeks ago, possibly caused by the dupers. It will be interesting to hear Jagex's response to the issue.

Disclaimer: Not a programmer. Just a little experience with C++ in college.

I'm a full time programmer and it would be fairly easy to implement item count triggers in database queries. Party hats are the only discontinued that can be "created" - they can alter db tables to reject new items being added (for cracker, masks, santa, etc.) When a cracker gets pulled, they could easily add a check to verify the item is actually a cracker.. before "creating" a new party hat.

I would think they have this in place ever since the pink party hat situation, which is why i'm skeptical about any rares being duped. Gold/shards.. are constantly "created" on the fly, which seems much more likely to have potential exploits.

Everything else makes sense.. large amounts of cash buying up rares to hold the duped gold/shards would easily cause 100% ge price increases.

What about to make system which one tracks how much gp comes to the game e.g. every 1h and if the dupe would arrive would send flags to them imidetly for e.g to phone or some1 whos working that time i hope there is some1 24/7 at office alive.

The dupe happened around May 30th, 3 weeks have passed by and Runescape had more of the chance to control the duping of 'items' but not GP. I'm sure it shouldn't be hard to track items compared to GP. The reason why Santa's have been going up during the past 3 weeks.

Why did Santa's go so high to 1.7-1.8bill when it was recently 1bill? More money went into the game, thus increasing purchasing power.

#1 theory: Dupers have been buying out "AUTHENTIC" Santa hats to hoard while making it look like merchants are increasing it.

#2 theory: Dupers have been buying "Authentic" Santa hats to make it harder to track the duped GP, making it harder to track the trillions that have entered Runescape.

#3 Theory: after the hoarding of Santa hats by the Dupers, the purchaser will be banned, thus losing the Santa hats and making Hats rarer.

Any more theories ?
