We won't see any real improvement in size for a very long time. They're still backed up on their poll updates. They can't even keep to their release dates either. Pretty sure on the Elven poll it said it would all be ready by Summer 2014. And here we are, getting one batch in summer and the next in winter.

People speak like increasing the size of Runescape is easy, however, imagine turning a hill into a mountain in this game. Imagine filling in larger empty spaces between each city. Imagine trying to create full on forests. I don't expect anything of this scale to happen any time soon.

Well it doesn't need to happen in one big update, they can surely do this over a long period of time. They updated the graphics of several creatures in runescape not all at once, but over time in batches.

They could easily push the vyrewatch city more east making it a huge slum of a city and push the elven lands southwest more, making the elven lands truly a maze of wonderment.
Save the penguins!

That could be three separate updates right there, not just one big one.

Update 1: (This is the big one.) Split the existing map into sections, separate those sections out, then fill in the spaces with generic features cut 'n' pasted from other areas of the map.

Update 2: Take the hill that is Ice Mountain and redevelop it to make use of the extra space. Expand it into the surrounding generic regions as necessary, space out the features, and turn it into a mountain that is actually higher than the Monastery roof.

Update 3: Develop the generic space filler between Edgeville and the Grand Exchange into an actual forest, relocating the outlaw camp into this area to restore it's seclusion from the prying eyes of the law.

Update 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, etc. Repeat as necessary with the other sections and space fillers in turn that were created with Update 1.

No it will not be quick or easy, and may take many months or even years, but it is doable if split into 'bite-sized' chunks.

(Edit. There is probably an Update 1.5 in there as well, which will be to fix all the bugs produced by Update 1!)

Scaling up the world, as various people have described and suggested in this thread would be a huge project - not only would it require a complete redrawing and designing of the whole world but it would have enormous knock on effects to the balance and economics of the world. As such it is highly unlikely to be something we would work on in the foreseeable future.

I don't want to run any further or for any longer than i need to, to play a game.
No point scaling up the world, because in some areas, monsters are now less densely populated e.g. skeletons in ape atoll.
Also, the larger the world, the more unused parts of the world there are and the more lonely it can get? Travelling times could be affected.

The Runescape game was widely popular, at its current and previous size. The ability to know parts of the map like the back of your hand is helpful.

Larger maps may affect the randomn encounter chance for pkers, which could be bad news for active pkers.

Instead of sizing up the map, player activity can be increased in other ways.
Such as group events, clan events, minigames, dungeoneering, friend chats

I'm sure there is room for expansion of monster dense areas and resource dungeons.

For some reason Duel Arena seems bigger. Maybe there will be developments there. Just speculation.

But you all need to know is that the space in RS is getting crammed up. Update after update, all the new content being released is just being jammed somewhere in the world, filling up even more space.

Look at what they had to do south of Falador.

Look at Edgeville, one warbands D&D, one Crucible, one KBD, all in one area jammed by the wilderness wall.

Right now, for Arraxor's lair, they actually had to ADD land to the side of Morytania and make room for it.

And overall, the look and feel of RS now, when the new C++ engine will arrive etc, with the increased draw distances and graphics. Seriously**** will look like a playground game. You're in Falador and you can already see Barbarian's Village and Varrock from the bank.

I support an expansion of the current continent, or Jagex adding more continents.

The scale itself of the world and everything in it is small.

Small trees, small mountains (hills), small as heck cities. They call Varrock a very famous city, filled with thousands of citizens. Yeah right.

There are multiple suggestions to fix the problem, but if you go a few pages back, yo all can read that one possible solution.

Jagex doesn't have to cut various sections of the map and fill in the spaces.

All they have to do is make an entirely new continent, shaped almost similarly to the current one, but way bigger. Jagex would spend time designing the terrain, the landscapes, the mountains, rivers, lakes, everything like that in this new continent.

But they won't fill it in with any content or cities. Just plain land, a giant world.

Then when the giant world is done, all Jagex have to do is cut and paste. Cut the various cities and content in the current world, and paste it onto the slots reserved for them in the new continent.

So Varrock can still be east of Falador, but be very far apart with dense forests and rivers in between.

They can very easily cut and paste the various content onto the new world, the new land. They just need to be motivated.
This is a dying game. Everything about it is just gaining XP and levels for a stupid cape, it's not about the unlocks. The skills are broken, combat system is dull and repetitive. And the MTX...lol.

So basically, all Jagex have to do is to make a new land, shaped very similarly to the current land, but with more depth and work done to it, to the terrain, the land etc. But this new land will be completely empty. No buildings, houses, content etc. None of that. Just this empty land, filled with trees, mountains, rivers, lakes, etc, and the entire new continent is shaped like the current one.

Once Jagex designs this new land, all they have to do now is to cut and paste the cities, the buildings, the places, the monsters etc, ALL into the new giant massive world that they just created. So Lumby would go towards the south. Edgeville right against the Wilderness etc.

Things don't work that way. If you increase the size of the map by a factor of 10, the city of Varrock will be the exact same tiny size, just with a lot of filler in between it and Lumbridge that now has to be filled with trees, textured, and all that.

The game used to feel bigger due to less transportation methods and less ability to run. Tweaking those would be far more practical, nay the ONLY POSSIBLE SOLUTION to achieve this end. Your idea of "scaling up" the gameworld is insane nonsense that will never, ever happen due to the need to rebuild every square inch of the game.
