Maybe as a thought for altering an existing family of familiars:
- Since that load of new combat familiars may phase out certain existing families I think metal titans could be changed to smithing familiars:
* This will be an extra and not affecting their combat capabilities, but if metal titans would end up too bad after a summoning extension, they still would be useful somehow.
* While at it a lower levelled bronze titan could be introduced as well (in the exisiting system maybe at level 84 - would be an empty level for now)
** Alternatively they might be rebalanced over a longer streak of levels - since you basically suggest unlocking a new one every two levels they never could stay too useful. A concrete number could be starting at 70 and unlocking a new one every six levels (so 70, 76, 82, 88, 94, 100, 106, 112, 118). This would require altering the stats of the iron/steel ones slightly though I guess.
* Metal titans will increase the progress generated by 1-5 (suggested 9 as a maximum initially, but I guess that might be a tad bit too much) per swing depending on their tier.
I just think it would be better using them instead of introducing something entirely new. Also it would cover the smithing niche with a concrete suggestion.
Likewise the fire titan could get an additional effect reducing your heat drain per swing (or automatically re-heating your in-progress object passively). That would basically cover everything, which would be relevant for smithing in some way - firemaking for more relaxed smithing, metal ones rewarding activity.
