The City of Senntisten quest released just today may have given us the revelation and answered many of the questions in this thread.
First, the World Guardian received the Shard of Erebus from Azzanadra the new god at the conclusion of the Battle of the Monolith. The immediate question before the City of Senntisten quest is how in Gielinor did Azzanadra know of Erebus seeming all of a sudden?
This question is seemingly answered from the new quest. Azzanadra revealed the knowledge just got into his mind when he became a "god". He also learned of the new ancient magick spells and the ancient wards. He thought it came from his exposure and ascension to "godhood" because of the Codex.
That said, Zaros and Raksha could have learned about Erebus from their encounters with the Codex too. The Codex can be somewhat of a living book that can send shadow knowledge to one's mind.
Now that we know the Elder eggs are warded in Senntisten with no return, the Elder Gods are coming to get their babies back and it is hard to believe Elder Godwar doesn't start in Senntisten.
About the Elder God Eggs... Zaros mentioned his "offering" to the "ruler of Erebus"... guess what the best offer will be?
I'll guess Azzanadra will be overwhelmed by the shadow knowledge in his id (well, the Shadow and Light Voices also talked about id and mind, and they are obviously not Sliske) and fallen under the spell of the Shadow next. He is going to turn us against his will.
