Hi Everyone,

I've noticed there've only been a couple of references so far to Erebus that I've come across, one being Raksha mentioning it during one of his special attacks, and the other being mentioned in the Battle for the Monolith. The reward at the end of the quest is the Shard of Erebus (which is going to be similar to the Shard of Mah or Shard of Zaros in terms of its effect I believe)

Erebus is also described very briefly as what the Zarosians call the afterlife if you ask him about it during Azzanadra's Quest.

How would Raksha and the Zarosians both know about Erebus if they've never met each other?

Raksha via the Monolith I'm guessing, being the instrument that turned him into the "Shadow Colossus"

The Zarosians I'm assuming by their delving into the shadow realm and via Zaros himself.

So my question is, what exactly is Erebus?

My thoughts are that it's one of the deepest parts of the shadow realm where the likes of the Shadow Leviathans reside, and could it be possibly where the EGWD, or part of it could take place. It could also be used as a potential weapon against the elder gods if the shadows there are do dense that they become some sort of naturally occurring anathema.

It would also explain why those attuned to the magic do not know where exactly the souls go after death, if the area is full of shadow magic/potentially anathema, perhaps they cannot sense where exactly they have gone to.

It's also mentioned in the first part of the Battle for the Monolith that a possible in tact part of Senntisten may have been found, could they be lined somehow? Is Zaros' ultimate plan to bring Erebus into Gielinor using the Codex? Could this be the shadow breach mentioned in one of Guthix's memories?

The answer can be really simple. Xau-Tak is in Erebus and all along Zaros has been working for him and the Shawdow has been controlling Raksha. If you have done the scanning tasks of the Yaks To The Shadow you would see Zaros outside a building at the SE of Anachronia. He said he has been waiting for a long time for a big event to happen, and he didn't treat Mah as his mother because she treated him and Seren as mannequins.

Please read Page 5, Post 10 of this thread for my theory of the Shadow, Light and Erebus:

I'd never even thought about the possibility that Xau-Tak could have birthed Mah until I read your post, it's a very interesting theory and looking at her egg on Freneskae it would mae sense, to some degree it definitely looks like Xau-Tak has had some kind of influence there - either via birth or via corruption.

It begs the question then if Xau-Tak is influencing Zaros then is there an opposite force that would be able to influence Seren? I think it's mentioned somewhere that Jas believes that Seren could become so much more as well.

The possibilities.

Also yes I think Raksha isn't evil, it's the Codex and the Shadow that has just corrupted him, it would be a cool route to go down if there are more shadow colossi hidden in the world

Similar to the World Guardian seeing Light and Shadow arguing with each other, I think there is the similar "Light" and "Shadow" within every NPC. It is our conscience. Light and Shadow exist all the time subconsiously in everybody's mind, and certain events act as the catalyst to make them show up and complete for supremacy.

So ..... Xau-Tak corrupts Mah's egg to force her to not be born "correctly" ... Xau-Tak then uses the last of it's influence on what remains of Mah's intelligence to try to create something to help it's plans ... which in turn creates Zaros (a being with Shadow/Dark aligned energy) and Seren (either a byproduct of it or Mah's really deeply subconscious attempt to stop Xau-Tak).
Zaros eventually breaks free of Mah and Seren, goes on his little journey of discovery across the universe, all the while Xau-Tak has been using Zaros from the shadows (so to speak) but likely having a level of free will.
Zamorak's rebellion knocking Zaros down a few pegs had a side effect of making Zaros even more susceptible to Xau-Tak for the thousands of years he was effectively all alone on Freneskae.
The World Guardian helping to re-empower Zaros (either way you looked at it) allowed Zaros to now be fully controlled by Xau-Tak as a full fledged puppet controlled from the shadows even though Zaros is still going on and on about his own creed of making your own destiny.
Thus everything Zaros is doing is exactly how Death foresaw him dying, he does just enough to gain a massive amount of power before Zau-Tak consumes it all to get even stronger. (Zaros' power, all the Shadow anima Zaros collected, Mah's core, etc)

This "light voice" and "shadow voice" isn't something present within every NPC, nor is it our conscience. It's a direct reference to the ending of Sliske's Endgame.

Spoilers for Sliske's Endgame below:

When Sliske is killed by the player using the Staff of Armadyl, he stabs one end of it back into the player just like what happened with Zaros and Zamorak. Sliske transfers some of his essence into the player, and this is later shown by Relomia's reaction to speaking to the player afterward. Basically, we're now carrying around Sliske's essence within our bodies, which is what those light and shadow voices are.
The fact they incorporated it into the quest as a story beat for every player and not just for people who have completed Sliske's Endgame is for narrative cohesion. It's why Gregorovic protects you. Narratively, it's assumed that the World Guardian has killed Sliske by the events of Azzanadra's Quest.

Light and Shadow obviously don't come from whatever "essence of Sliske" as we hear them talking through the Mask of Sliske we got from Dishonoring Among Thieves, way way before Sliske's Endgame.

That's the point. They spoke through a mask that was directly created by Sliske. They only speak inside you after Sliske transfers his essence.
It's also why the light voice and shadow voice literally look like Sliske's face and logo.

It's literally a direct reference to the ending of Endgame, I don't see why this is debated.

Furthermore, Gregorovic literally says "Master? I heard you calling" after the Light and Shadow voice speak, then is compelled to intervene with Helwyr stopping your access to the Elder Halls. The Light and Shadow voice are the ones who call Gregorovic to come intervene in the first place. They wouldn't be able to do that, nor would Gregorovic listen, unless they were literally Sliske's transferred essence, which is what they are.

If you want any further proof they make a little snide reference to it in their first appearance in the quest, saying "maybe we're an old friend come back to haunt you" and taunting the player for murdering him.
