MTX was removed from Hero Pass when they removed Skips. There is nothing to spend money on Hero Pass.
Hero Pass is not only about engagement. Like Yak Track, the main purpose is to make the benefits of the cheap 12 month Premier Club membership a super bargain.
Do you really think the next version of hero pass will have no MTX?
They are gathering all that feedback ONLY for player engagement, to give everyone more rewards for playing? With no ability to skip any of it?
Why? That's one case where I would say their data should have the answers. Yak track completion rates? What did people like to do, what did they skip. Data.
They will still want to add MTX in the next one...
You know how this is 100% the correct take here? This fun song and dance about giving the community a say doesn't venture deep enough to gauge what actual player interest is.
Jagex is seemingly focusing all this community input on balancing and getting Hero Pass to be acceptable to the community rather than discussing its impact on the game since its launch and the community's attitude for it at every step.
They even teased changing balancing on future passes - which they did without consultation with Yak!
Roddy - thank you. I would love to have an earnest talk with Jagex about Hero Pass as it relates to the health of the game and how the community has responded, but Jagex seems more concerned with having the community save the project for them and has drawn out one bad update into a month long PR battle, while the hype for the game has completely dissapated.
I'm right there with you - I think Jagex is looking for a way to make this profitable for them, and at this point, their best avenue to do so is to find middle ground by letting the community into the process while simultaneously denying them any meaningful degree of power when its all said and done.
---
Do you honestly think the only thing Hero Pass is going for is engagement?
Another wonderful rhetorical question - and your answer is: Absolutely not.
The ship on Hero Pass has sailed. Things like this need a proper launch that isn't needlessly overhyped by misplaced secrecy and emphasis (see: the Roadmap fiasco), it needs to be either applied to a game that doesn't have an existing subscription model underneath it -or- needs to be free outside of the subscription (was launched as an additional p2w feature, and had to be neutered to its current state after player outrage), and it needs to have tangible rewards...

Well, that was a manner of speech, but here's a literal breaking news a 6:
The RS Guy is on the negative Nancy train too with a video entitled "People are leaving RS3." in which he is spending a lot of time promoting Old School RuneScape and addressing the other content creators I listed above (and some I didn't such as EvilLucario and Wazzy, paragons of this game's PvM scene.) - and this is your type of guy, Dilbert, a guy who is loyal to RS3 even when times are hard. The thing is, he's able to admit when times -are- hard.

Let's makes no mistakes, he was talking about
content creators
leaving RS3 for
other games
, not RS3 players leaving for OSRS.
At 00:48, he clearly told us it is a combination of a lot of things, not specifically Hero Pass. He then proceeded and said it is not a bad things for content creators to try out different games. I don't see where the "negative Nancy" you tried to protrait TheRSGuy as.
He then told us OSRS provided tools for content creators but they don't get them in RS3. He also point to the earning potentials. OSRS spend a lot of money to sponsor content creators but almost nothing in RS3.
Don't you see OSRS lost far more content creators and viewers than RS3? So what? They don't gave Hero Pass in OSRS, but OSRS content creators are leaving left and right to other games when they get even better earning potentials than OSRS.
That video hurt my soul too much to watch. No wonder no one plays.
Hurt my soul too - Ryan was doing a really great job pumping out post-Necromancy content and he's usually super jovial. I'm glad he's sticking it out even in spite of the game not being lucrative for him and the game's developers kneecapping the game's progress over and over again.

Now Hilda, isn't "tangible rewards" counter-intuitive to the Content Buffs decision players pushed for?
Very much is, dear viewer - and that's the conundrum Jagex faces - because I think they very much expected Content Buffs to be a successful point of MTX, and not result in the game writ-large getting review bombed on every major platform.
Without those buffs - what do they have to sell? Cosmetics? Random assortments of Treasure Hunter style xp-related buff items in satchels? Animations?
Even Dilbert was able to admit that he doesn't exactly fork out cash to pay for cosmetic items, and he cheerleads Jagex every opportunity that arises.
To Jagex - it doesn't seem like the company would call it a success if it doesn't incentivize players to spend money. That's why they are hinting about talking about content buffs again even though they got axed this time around. That's why they are trying to push this whole project over the goal-line and are only letting player-feedback in under the guise of it being an inevitability.
It was never about player engagement alone, and it certainly wasn't the act of goodwill they marketed it as when bringing up a reduction of DailyScape or encouraging players to play RS how they wish.
The question that's going to matter the most on that survey they release won't even be asked.
"What are you willing to tolerate us charging you for?"

You obviously didn't watch the video then. He was talking about content creators, not players.
It doesn't hurt me when it comes to making a living. OSRS is falling on hard time and can't afford big streamers now, so they have to go for tiny ones. I don't blame RS3 streamers trying to make some money streaming OSRS. I just want to respect TheRSGuy for sticking to what he actually wants to do instead of trying to make a small amount of money.
As for Maikeru, what his wife is doing and continuous to do for RS3 spoke up for Maikeru might not be allowed to say now. Maikeru the RS3 streamer used to have like 100 concurrent viewers but he is suddenly getting 500-1k viewers in OSRS, of course he is making $$$. It is not hard why he is going for the money. However, the surge in viewers obviously don't come from RS3. So while it is great for Maikeru, his gains are actually losses from the OSRS streamer community. Perhaps some smaller OSRS streamers just got screwed very hard.
"Now Hilda, isn't "tangible rewards" counter-intuitive to the Content Buffs decision players pushed for?"
We don't have content buffs in Hero Pass and we don't need Content Buffs in Hero Pass. Did we have Content Buffs in Yak Teacks? Of course not, and they aren't necessarily at all.
"To Jagex - it doesn't seem like the company would call it a success if it doesn't incentivize players to spend money."
Of course they do incentivize players to buy Premier Club. That's a massive success for RS3 and Jagex.
