There have been good memories, honestly though I do think that due to them having recently increased the membership price (not sure when but it was some time in the past few years) it would have only been fair that they polled this, you don't go upping the price of something and then still not poll and ask if people want a decision like this to be made - just doesn't seem decent at all. 200m Dunge, Rc, Mage and invention accomplished, + 120 Constitution/Slayer/Range/Summoning/Woodcutting/Mining/Defence/Strength and 110m fishing, got comp/MQC and 200m Fishing/Woodcutting/Mining as well as 120 herb/Farming/Cooking most 120s just Agility, Theiving, Hunter and Prayer left

The main problem is, I think we took the forums for granted. We stopped coming here as often as we used to, and then the J-Mods did so too, relying more on third-party platforms.

Those third party platforms (Discord, Reddit), and Twitter/X all have their problems, and they (as someone else here noted) are more equipped for 'just now' posts as opposed to more in-depth and longform content. Discord is a chatroom, not a forum, and Twitter's forced brevity always made it unsuitable for anything other than very short posts (and don't even get me started on its new owner). Reddit seems like a throwback to old, disorganized forums that were largely falling out of popularity when the RSOF was new.

RuneScape really needs a forum where people can post long, in-depth discussions of the skills, the lore, the updates, clans, and every other aspect of RuneScape. And I honestly don't think any of those third party platforms can fill the void. The only thing that can is a new and improved official RuneScape forum, which can do everything this forum can plus some new features.

Sadly, it seems like that's not going to happen any time soon.

And so, we mourn this forum that we took for granted. We return now to say our goodbyes.

As the Joni Mitchell song says, "Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you got till it's gone".

Can't relate to the above post. Sure, I occasionally interacted with Jagex on Facebook but it was seldom. I barely use Twixer, never use Reddit, and I won't join the RS3 Discord. All my RS feedback, commentary, and off-game community interaction has been here.

However - Jagex didn't give us incentive to use the forums over third parties in the first place. As soon as social media began to poach our users Jagex should have started adding at least a handful of features that aren't trademarked. Like buttons, profile organization, etc. Monday morning quarterbacking isn't going to help us any now, though.

Looks like Jagex have given up on interacting more with the forums and instead opted to delete them altogether. Saddened as I am by this decision, the fact that I am not as active on RuneScape as I used to be once means I can handle it.

I'd like to thank everyone with whom I've interacted on these Forums over the past, what, decade and a half that I have been using them. And, not to forget, those lovely people messaging me in-game with, ‘‘Hey, I saw your forum post!’’ Also thanks to the FMods who have been working so hard to keep the Forums tidy over the years and to the JMods who have used them to interact with the community: content developers, CM and of course Tech Support. (Where are we supposed to go now for Tech Support queries?)

I will always cherish the eager discussions and theories in F(G)U, the Lords of the Wait and R(G)U, the forum games, the official Q&As, introductions of new JMods, our glorious Lore Forum, the new update countdown, player suggestions and player-written quests, long-lived mastodonts like A Mad Hatter's Future of the Myreque or Amascut's Quests in the Making, minigame and clan organisation, and so much more. Heck, I'll even miss Chewy.

I'll be saving my own threads on my computer; if anyone wants to interact with me, please, feel free to message me in-game. My PM is usually on "all".

Jagex have suggested Discord and Reddit as replacements for the RSOF but I find both horrible websites. The former is probably a fine chat service akin to Skype (although I find the layout, controls etc. extremely annoying) but that's all it is, a chat service. It isn't a well-organised forum and you can hardly find anything back. Reddit is similarly badly designed, having tried it briefly. I cannot make sense of the comments’ organisation (I couldn't even find back my own comments!), the substitute for FMods (being downvoting idiots) is ludicrous and it's difficult to find something older than a week.

Thus, I bid you goodbye. See you ingame, perhaps!

It's honestly the worst decision theyve made. Forums is part of RS and without it, it isn't the same. Clan recruitment etc, some of us like to do it the old fashion way on forums.

We want transparency from jagex like back when Mod Shauny was around, Jagex is now becoming as transparent as a brick wall. Closing forums is another brick to that wall. The more they rely on third party, the more things can go wrong in the sense of mis-information / hijack links for community safety.

Very disappointing move.

I want to see mods doing Behind the scenes monthly videos with open forum feedback channels. Nobody took Mod Osbourne's or Mod Marks mantel which was very disappointing. I've played since classic and it's just disappointing how little engagement we now get as the community.

Exactly. Info here on the forums is not only vetted by the mods and the experienced player community but also easy to find. I'd call this even worse than the removal of free trade. That update was simply annoying. To the greatest extreme rest assured, but annoying. Forum removal is discomforting.

Yeah, I'm going to miss the forums too, although I was more of a browser than active poster. At one point I had a clue log on these forums, but decided it wasn't worth it, because the forums seemed dead to me. I don't know how many active browsers my log had, though.

I do have an idea for the forums. How about moving them in-game somehow (perhaps under the community tab)?

That way, we can play and take part in discussions at the same time (well, we have always been able to play and take part in discussions at the same time, but only one login would be required and there wouldn't be need to switch back and forth between the game and the browser).

It might also attract more users (and as a downside, probably more trolls too) to use the forums.

But it all comes down to Jagex whether or not they're willing to execute this idea. We shall see if they're planning to make something similar to these forums.
