They also hired Morgan Stanley, one of the biggest global investment banks specializing in M&A this time, so they are not messing around with the sales this time.

Two people from Reuters spoke out on the potential sales too. Reuters is always a very credible source, and they even have given us a tentative timeframe of the transaction - between later this year and summer 2024.

So, this is not just a usual rumor. Jagex seemingly is solidly in play.

What do you think? Who do you think will be the next overlord of RS3, OSRS, Pipeworks, Scum, Jagex Partners, and perhaps a longer list of yet to be announced Jagex games?

Jagex releases Hero Pass to try to drive up both "engagement" and MTX revenue. It backfires spectacularly, starting with Reddit, but then a half dozen + gamer mags get involved. As do streamers and a former Jmod.

Wave after wave of cancellations, lots of bad PR, but suddenly, let's hotfix the worst of it out and we'll do more next week and the week after. Daily challenges will be restored.

Yeah, the speed of the response was because they just tanked their sale price. Ah, glorious Karma.

All games changed their plans often. We saw OSRS went after 3PC, threated to sue them, only in the next day came back and not just allowed 117scape but Mod Sween actually gave them some messaging. Did that tank Jagex's sale prices? I don't think so as Carlyle bought them for $530 mil.

Hint hint... Wall Street people look at financial reports, comparisons to peers, market sentiments and a lot of other statistics, and they don't go to Reddit or Twitch for opinions if Hero Pass is good, OSRS should sue 3PC instead of embracing them, or watch the Odablock/Mod Trident saga to determine the price of Jagex. :D

Especially after the players revolt, cancel subscriptions en masse, multiple news outlets report on it, "appears to be an uprising!". That's the kind of thing that tanks financial statements, and sale prices...

Karma...

ROFL! Do you realize Jagex is for sale according to Reuter just yesterday? What tank financial statements and sale prices?

Did you also see most players are happy again, and perhaps even happier than last week, when they know they are not just going to get their own Daily Challenge back, but also extra rewards from Hero Pass? I don't think many players actually quit in one day, but even so, perhaps even more players subscribed today because of the new Hero Pass plan.

Happy again? Man, I really want some of what you are smoking. You are flat up delusional if you think anybody is subscribing just because of "Hero Pass". And a not insignificant number of the cancellations won't be coming back.

With that said Hero Pass, well, it's more like the straw that broke the camel's back. Pick a reason, and I can list dozens, those players went "bye!". Some of them caused a lot of bad publicity on their way out while Jagex was apparently in serious discussions to be sold.

Will the changes cause more people to subscribe? No. Will the changes cause all those who quit to resubscribe? No. Will the changes keep a lot more from quitting, and maybe get some good PR out of this? Yes.

For once the RS3 side is having to pay attention to their player base. And that's a good thing.

"Apparently "just remove it" ended up being
perfectly acceptable feedback
in the end."

This is the best one sentence summing up all the happy customers.

"Jesus! You are actually listening to players! Welldone and thank you."

"Holy <redacted> they actually <redacted> listened

Edit: tl;dr hero pass is staying, but content buffs are being removed (and xp buffs are being made available to everyone, not just premier), also daily challenges are coming back"

"I'm seriously impressed they didn't just listen to nearly all of the feedback, but are actually returning daily challenges. not being able to buy levels of the hero pass will actually make it less MTX then yak tracks. Unbelieveable."

"Daily challenges are dailies that tie directly in with MTX. I really don’t see why people want them so bad. Hypocrites just settling. RS players aren’t against MTX, they are just against MTX they don’t want to buy."

https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/16da0qh/hero_pass_player_feedback_update_2_an_update_from/

A lot more new players may subscribe now for more values. Good for Jagex's business.

"The process is in the early stages and Carlyle is expected to proceed with an auction process towards the end of the year, the people said."

Interesting, Jagex may have a new owner in as soon as 3 months. The changes are going to be very a lot of fun.

When the owner is decided by auction, I can bid $12.5 and win? :P

I am prepared to bid $20. You'll have to raise your bid, Dilbert. :P
