For what it's worth, I've been an RS member nearly as long as you, assuming your forum datestamp shows your first date of membership. And I'm not troubled at all by cosmetics. So I don't think it's an issue solely of the old guard who remember the good old days vs the ignorant newbies.

And if your datestamp doesn't show your first date of membership, you're still including a huge number of people in 'the modern fanbase' if it can include people who started playing f2p in 2005. :D

Because this was a medieval fantasy game where you were meant to be placed in a world of survival and questing, theres something about people running about in bikinis and other stupid clothing which kind of spoils the immersion.

The thing is, Jagex wants to sell cosmetics, so they'll always be bigger and more obnoxious than regular ingame items. I hope the profit was worth it, as the game has lost it's identity in the process.

Its not down to one person but the fanbase as a whole, its certainly a new fanbase thats been attracted and it certainly isnt an rpg/adventure fan base it once was its now a habbo hotel, facebook gaming fan base. Runescape is basically gone from being a MMORPG to almost being a facebook game in its nature and thats majorly down to immersion as its probably the no.1 priority when it comes to most games. So yea when you want to be involved in a magical medievil adventure game stupid costumes and too many references to the real world and too much J Mod interaction within the game and surrounding the game, broadcasts that constantly appear reminding you that youre infact just in a game all take you out of the mindset of your game surroundings.

Its also down to attention to detail, quest plot lines, how things look, where things are placed, how you interact with others, none of this is ever done with immersion in mind its done with profit, company resources and deadlines in mind.

I also think firehawk just summed it up well just now with saying it has lost its identity.
