@hopalong, I prefer skype mostly as it is the most accessible for me... Never tried discord, I think i can still get in ts if u prefer that... I just can't do too many calls cuz of my computer being a desktop in the main living room (high traffic)

I actually made a Clan Cup Discord sever yesterday lol :P I didn't mention it because I was going to pass it on to whoever ends up running the Cup after Matthe's selection (he said to remind him on Monday so it seems likely he will be selecting). However, I guess we could open up the general channel chat to everyone now, and then set the roles and permissions for the private chats in the channel when they get chosen?

That said, I think it's best if we keep our discussions about the Cup public here on the forums until we have basically everything finalised and approved. That way other leaders can easily keep an eye on the progress and butt in if necessary :)

It's safer than Skype with regards to info protection, is more convenient for text chatting than TS (because you can see everything said while offline, like Skype, while also allowing you to create different chat groups in a single server) and also has a TS-style voice chat option included. And it's free :3 For something like Cup management I thought it would be the perfect platform.

@Hop - good shout with the more transparent interface. Will look into it

@ Calm - Thank you for the answers. If someone can make a good spreadsheet for me. I will help with the Iron Skill Cup then.

- Also Jagex, can we do get a warning on those accounts when the players is near 6 hours, cause maybe they didn't note when they started and it would be sad if a clan who is participating loses cause of such reason.

And I assume lobby time is not counted for the 6 hours?

Unfortunately I think players will have to monitor the time they play themselves - I highly doubt Jagex will make changes to ironman accounts just for us. What we could do is increase the grace time to 30mins or 1 hour so there's less chance of players being dqed for monitoring themselves badly. However, we'd probably have to tweak the formula for removing the xp gained in the extra time to account for exponential increases in xp gain.

I think lobby time is counted in the time played for an account that Jagex checks as well =/ Good point. We'll have to warn players about that too.

Edits:
- Added a warning about the lobby
- Increased grace time to 30mins

One way I think would help is if one of us "competed" before it started and check out the xp rate... Example: if I test out the 6 hours and I get a total of 560k xp of just straight grinding... If someone were then to say they got like 1m xp in that time period... It begs the question of what they were doing.

Trial and error I suppose, could have a couple of us attempt it. @ceecs looks interested in skilling cup so we could have a go with it. This way we can set a bar on what to expect from clans.

Also one question regarding how we are calculating this xp. Are we taking the average xp/hr from each competitor and then average out the 10 averages of the clan to come out to a clan average? Or are we just going to add up everything and divide by 10 for an average total xp gained over 6 hours? Again, I could test this if you would like.

Edit: @calm-- I wouldn't say too much about a 30 minute grace period because I think this would be abused by clans and push for 6hr30min of skilling instead of 6 hours. Everyone be looking for that extra push.

I was thinking we'd take each clan's 5 best total xp accounts adjusted for grace time and average those results. Xp/hr per competitor could be skewed by stopping play after large one off xp gains such as quest rewards.

Regarding grace time, playing extra 30mins wouldn't result in an advantage as we'd reduce the xp gained and correct the excess time played. To do that, we'd just need an excel formula that fits the competitor's final total xp to an exponential formula (based off of observed xp rate increases from the RS wiki), which then returns the expected value for 360 minutes of play.

Tbh we could also use simpler methods that could yield less accurate but still acceptable results.

Edit: Did some testing on Excel and found a solution that works pretty well

XP rewards for quests will not be a huge factor since we are using brand new accounts... i think the only quest to look at is the knight's sword for smithing.

As for that formula, what did you have in mind? I was thinking of maybe deducting 1k xp/minute for first 5 minutes and doubling every minute afterwards... but i'm sure you have thought of something alot more feasible.

Basically it just returns a value for the expected xp after 6hours which is slightly below what would be returned using average xp per hour in order to account for a slightly increasing xp rate after 6hours. It's easiest if I just show whoever ends up running the skilling cup - trying to explain it properly here would sound like bunch of gibberish :P -

The first 3 are good imo. I'd replace bm with 5-man rago though because rago has more interesting mechanics and we already have yaka to represent raids. Rago would have to be the last one though as we'd have to start and end the week on wednesday to prevent a change in rotation half-way through the competition. -
