You can go through Centurylink's services if you like, but the fact remains that many, many people can be (and are!) DDoS'd because they don't take suitable precautions on IRC...
BTW, Sprint/United Telephone of Florida?

I know for a fact you can get someone's ip from Messenger, and Skype. But it usually involves having them send you a file (funny picture, stat sheet, w/e).
But just a little pet peeve...whenever a fan-site gets hacked multiple people in rs get hacked (most recently a Dutch site). PLEASE encourage your people to NOT use one password on multiple sites.

Some pretty good tips here; may want to add these also-
Get a firewall!
It nerfs hackers DDoS attacks and direct attempts;
ZoneAlarm is a good free one; has an antivirus for free too!
Don't add your location to websites. It's OK to say your country, but I still advise against it. Giving any area, eg- crater 1 of the Moon; could be specific enough for someone if they managed to get ANY information you'd normally share.
