There are similar threads out there already - for example Quick find code: 250-251-68-61146184, stickied in the 'Account Help' section.

Given the number of complaints recently, though, I thought it would be better just to have this here for the benefit of clan leaders - who are welcome to post all or parts of it anywhere else that they think it would come in handy, on the RSOF or off site ;)

Frankly, the info is more likely to be seen (and acted on!) that way. Experience suggests that in general, people just ignore such threads and the Game Guide info on security, either because they're perceived as being 'too technical', or because they're not interesting (or trendy?) enough... But advice from knowledgable friends/leaders is sometimes listened to.

I learn't from a computing teacher that you can make sure a keylogger won't find out your password by typing it out, before you enter you delete the last charater then type it again... I don't really know if its true as the computing teacher was pretty rubbish, but could be useful for people to know if it does work.

Keylogger means it detects your every key-push. So I'm fairly certain it will detect the delete button as well. However you can hold down delete and delete a few letters with it in a row without lifting your finger for example to make it more difficult to guess the password. Also, like stated before, you can use on-screen keyboards (Windows has it built-in) to avoid the most basic keyloggers getting your passwords.

However, the best thing to avoid all this is to keep your computer safe and then you don't have to worry about any of the stuff.

Here's a fun statistic, from The Register, an online tech news site, today:

""
During the first three months of 2011 an average of 73,000 new strains of malware have been created every day: 10,000 more than during the same period last year, according to stats from Panda Security. Around 70 per cent of these malware strains were Trojans, with viruses making up 17 per cent of the sample, the second most common category.
