Tip to creating a very strong Password:

Think of a sentence, then add a few numbers on the end, take the first letter of each sentence and combine them into a password.

Example:

The quick brown Fox jumps over the lazy Dog 14 times

So your password would be: TqbFjotlD14t

Providing you won't repeat that sentence, and even if you do, like someone would guess it, this sort of password is the strongest password you can set. It is memorable and to most, it looks like a random set of letters/numbers.

Thanks Arch. Had 3 friends quit recently due to problems. First one had opened an email that was supposedly from Jagex that said he had received a black mark and he clicked the link and got a keylogger. O_o
Second did a trust trade with a friend. Well now an ex-friend. :(
Third went to a link on youtube and got redirected to a RS looking site.

I wish we could revote free trade. :(

Ouch! :(

Two of those are classic 'hacks', alas. The only thing we can do as leaders is to keep on (and on, and on) with the education - so I hope you'll be able to use what's here!

One very essential tip left out I feel would be virus protection software, it can potentially block viruses from getting into your computer in the first place and do scans of the computer to find any threats that could harm the computer, it's something that a lot of people who are hacked don't have and it's fairly simple to use and get - JaGex even has a link to a free security scanner in Customer Support! :O

Er, that's part of any decent antivirus.

"
* Make sure you have a proper antivirus and firewall, learn how to use them, and update them regularly. For preference, choose an antivirus package that includes link checkers for popular search engines (e.g. AVG or McAfee).

In other news, it's just been revealed that Geek.com was hijacked recently.

Quoting from online tech site 'The Register':

""
Feature articles on the website, in addition to its home page and “about us” page, contained invisible iframes that downloaded heavily obfuscated JavaScript from sites infected with a DIY exploit kit, [researchers at] zScaler said on Sunday. The malicious code then attempted to exploit unpatched security vulnerabilities on the end user's machine.

“Unfortunately, we see hundreds of attacks such as this each and every day,” researcher Umesh Wanve wrote. “Many legitimate websites are being compromised by taking advantage of poor coding practices in web applications. Attackers are constantly on the lookout for popular websites or top news sites as targets for their attacks. Users need to be aware that no site is a safe site.”
""

The last line says it all.

Read today that the FBI released an official statement to U.S Banks to be careful about any wire transfer request to China .. apparently some really good hackers found a way to upload Trojans onto Banking computers via the wire tranfer request, in 20 known attempts to hack 1 million USD per attempt, the hackers we successful 55% of the time and walked away with $11,000,000. (multiple transfers of the money after the initial transfer and something I think they called spoofing and the money and the trail was long gone)

You can never be too careful when it comes to websites, e-mails from people you don't know and sadly even e-mails from people you think you know. When all else fails, you can always throw the hard drive in garbage and start all over again.
