Got to love Dachshunds. :P I know it probably sounds bad, but they've always looked funny to me. Their body proportions are... bizarre.
I hate those things.

On a slightly different note, is it just me, or is there a re-emergence of anti-violence and anti-gore in video games? For example, the trailer for The Last of Us part 2 was criticized for being too gory and thus senseless. I will admit I never cared about those kinds of games, I am not interested in them, and I don’t consider The Last of Us a masterpiece, but a rather boring thing I won’t ever bother playing. I did not watch everything, but the trailer for part 2 looked pretty cool, and the graphics are superb.

But, compared to historical accounts I’ve read, especially from the Middle Ages, The Last of Us 2 is quite civil. Oh look, a guy gets hung and gutted, did you know that people were tied to a ladder, partly skinned alive, then had most of their internal organs cut out then put in a fire, while they were still alive? Or that people were sometimes tied upside-down into an X-shape then sawed in half starting from the groin? Or, that there was a German criminal who cut pregnant women’s foetuses out and ate them? Or one commander who fought alongside Joan of Arc killed several hundred children by disembowelment and hung their organs around his house? Or Vlad Dracul had entire families vertically impaled, including women and children? Or that there were female executioners? Or that 'tormentor' is a historical occupation (a torturer and executioner)?

Honestly, I think I am figuring out why people tend to dislike history, or aren’t interested in it: they are traumatized by it. Far easier to criticize video games, because they’re fake. I wonder how such critics would fare reading history. I bet they'd shit themselves. Ha!

There’s always been a background buzz about the correlation between video games and violence. It all just boils down to the age old stigma that all introverted people play video games, so clearly everyone who plays video games are destined to become weird bispeckled acne-ridden psychopaths who are open to weird and criminal influences.

Few people I know of care about the past - perhaps they'll look up on ancestery for a few "cool" facts on their great grandmother, or watch a documentary on WW2, and maybe they'll say some pretty words like "never forget..." - but I've never gotten the impression that people really care where their forefathers came from.

She does mention she was trained to be a knight

I've already addressed this as well.

Any training she had received as a knight would have been forgotten after the several years she spent at the Academy, where she would have been completely focused on magical and academic pursuits.

I think Gunslinger does bring up a good point though; does this world have magical or alchemical steroids? I imagine that druids potion from Asterix could come in handy.

Strength potions, but they aren't permanent and are quite expensive.

Let's also not forget the order of the Hatchet, a group of woman who dressed as men and fought off an islamic invasion with whatever they had on hand. While not technically "knights", I'm fairly sure they were equivalent in rank.

What you just described sounds more like a ragtag militia than an actual order of knights.

Also, how many of those women do you think were five feet tall and could use every combat style?

Gender isn't the issue here. Size, strength, and age are.

So your schooling system does nothing for the bouncing-off-the-wall kinaesthetic learners? Bah! Discrimination, I say!

So, with magic, how descriptive do you want us to be with experience? And, more importantly, do you already have ideas for what are and are not spells – or can I assume anything that would work in Avatar the Last Airbender could work here?

West,
I can add to this stigma a bit. Nerdy people usually aren't violent. Non-nerds are the ones who tend to be violent. No one played video games during the Middle Ages, look how violent medieval people were.

Good point, lots of people don't seem to care about the past, heritage, or ancestry. Maybe for the best; why delve in the past when you can focus on the present?

Hm, seems like Fishing's RP is a bit stricter than the usual ones we get. Or indeed, maybe that's what's needed? Sometimes, you gotta enforce parameters for changes to happen, after all.

Since things are a bit slow currently, is it time to make a new RP, or shall we wait for everyone else to post in Ashlands?

Although I am out of ideas, I think I can suggest a few simpler ideas:

Something fun and kiddy, an adventure through a video game-like children's world, with cartoony villains and foes. The pairbond theme we’ve discussed could work very well here, as we adventure together and form childish friendships, but also occasionally have darker or mature humour or themes. Something like a mix of Super Mario, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, and Team Fortress 2.

A torturous RP, where users role-play as tormentors (torturer-executioners), vampire hunters, monster slayers, inquisitors, rakehells, war clerics, exorcists, fanatics, condemned, criminals, smugglers, or what have you. Gritty, brutal world, similar to Bloodborne, something between monster-hunting and inquisition.
The pairbond theme could work very well here, as interesting combinations could form, such as a condemned criminal must be put to trial, but in fact has a demonic, nightmarish, or monstrous guardian or innate power we can RP through, a mix of semi-PvP and survival.

Underwater RP, modern fantasy, something like Bioshock with more fantasy themes. Diving suits, submersibles, underwater geological zones, ocean currents, aquaphobia, deep sea animals such as dangerous sharks or squids, sea monsters, and perhaps a quest to find Atlantis that turns out to be something else.

Holy crap, this bad boy weighed eight hundred and thirty pounds! Each eyepiece had lenses two inches thick. Also, is it just me, or does every imgur image not work anymore?

Yeah, Elemental Magic is basically Bending from Avatar. The only difference is that lightning isn't part of fire, earth-users can't manipulate metal, and healing isn't part of water.

Generic Magic is basically Alteration from Skyrim, with some barriers and a few other miscellaneous spells thrown in. Also short range teleportation, but that's really advanced.

Tranquility is basically centered around restoring, strengthening, or controlling life, which is why healing, nature, and passive buffs are the three main spell types.

For experience, all I want is a basic explanation of how long you studied and what you actually studied. If I think you're being too overpowered or underpowered, I will say something.

In terms of actually using it, I'll allow a fair bit of creative freedom in that regard, so long as what you're doing is actually reasonable for your character.
