*shrugs* One of the big appeals of this story for me was that the "heroes" weren't the centre of the time loop - but rather, the true protagonist was an auxillary girl from school who feels responsible for all of it. This means everyone (but the girl) starts fresh everytime, and we watch them become something new at the end of every arc.
Still, a Re:Zero-esque timeloop could be interesting...
Would you have the groundhog day loop set for a traumatic event (or ritual), or just a randomly specific time?
A particular traumatic event, or perhaps midnight of a specific day. It's simple enough; the day repeats almost exactly the same each loop, but only input from the characters, who retain their memories of the loop, will change things. The ultimate goal is, of course, to stop the traumatic event or complete the goal preferably without a horrible outcome for the characters afterwards. Being arrested for killing a terrorist before he does something bad, for example.
It also leaves it open to a sequel; another traumatic event that starts a new loop and the characters must reunite to stop this new terrible thing. Hell, could lead into a full series and get crazier each time. Start simple with stopping a tragic murder-suicide at the local school or mall for example, then timeskip to another time, maybe weeks or months from the last one, and it happens again but it's a much worse event.
And let's not forget that characters could die during each loop and come back for the next one, at least until the 'canon loop' where the event is solved and everything that happened that day sticks. So the loop would begin early morning or relatively early morning, like some students being in first class of the day, or just waking up at 6:35am, and would end either directly after the traumatic event succeeds or midnight that night.
