There’s a reason why I don’t like prison stories; anything that happens kind of loses impact when you realise why they’re there in the first place. Why should I feel bad about a guy who murdered three people in cold blood, even when their arm is getting fed into a deep fry? I mean, if we swapped the genre, this could be considered justice.

I think this is why a lot of prison shows revolve around people who are wrongly convicted, are reformed, or did “harmless” white collar crimes and became a criminal on the inside. That way, people like me can’t hate on them - but this is why I also can't partake in Gun's suggested prison roleplays. I just can't empathise with a real criminal.

EDIT: Just realised I went a little off topic there. :P

It's understandable if they're there for a legit reason. However, most of the guys I know who've been to prison were there for some pretty stupid reasons. Drug possession and other petty stuff, one guy I worked with went for methamphetamine production. I empathize with them mostly because they really just ended up on the wrong side of the tracks because of circumstances they couldn't really control. Dude I was talking about, he made and sold meth because he couldn't afford his child support payments because the court was trying to take 3x his income out of him and suspended his license. Plus some awful shit like what I described earlier happened to him, he lost most of his teeth in a prison fight too because some guys tried to toss his rack and take all of his stuff.

If I ever did make a prison thread again, you could always have a guy who was innocent or a guy who did something fairly innocuous. Hell, a few of my prison threads were focused on a group of guys trying to get somebody out of prison that was innocent. We kind of started to involve some government conspiracies in it too.

I kind of like playing criminals myself, just because it's an element of society I'm familiar with. I've always hung around with some pretty rough types and a lot of my friends have done some time. Plus, I like to play with story elements like that. If it's done right, it can make you feel bad for a guy who's done some pretty unforgivable things. Most of my characters of that type are either reformed past-criminals, or current criminals who are in it for morally ambiguous reasons. I like to leave it up to the reader to decide whether they like the guy or not. Plus, the act of rebellion against order and corrupt authority is a story close to my heart, personally.

Speaking of criminals, I'm still figuring out what I want to do for a crime/gang-warfare thread on here.

Good reading topics here, West and Gun. I don't have much to add, and kinda feel bad for not being able to, but I agree with all these points. It's really stupid that peoples' lives can be ruined over by their own system.

Gun, as for your crime RP, I don't know what to do, and am not sure what to do here. I would probably make a Jack the Ripper-esque RP with some fantasy elements, for the sake of creativity and fun. I just get bored of non-fiction for some reason.

Personally, I tend to find insane asylums/orphanages as more interesting than prisons, because insane asylums/orphanages are basically prisons full of mostly-innocent people abused by the system.

Yes, but I don't know when it's not necessary for you to post. So, I am extra careful, just in case. Although it's an old example, I recall you mentioning long ago, when I first used Spirry in ItF, that you mentioned users did not have a chance to react to the situation involving him. I still keep that in mind even today. Or, maybe I am being too careful.

Anyways, now that this has all been concluded, I will soon start typing out the next phase of Wake Up. This may take up to two hours from now, or even more if I get a change of plans for today.
