Also, I think they intended for Saradomin's corruption to be a gradual process, but so many people sided with him in the Battle of Lumbridge. So they immediately tried to over-compensate by giving Saradomin a quest that makes him look bad, and Zamorak a quest that makes him look good.

The Invasion of Falador was probably just testing the waters to see if public opinion towards Zamorak had improved.
It hadn't, because Death of Chivalry had you walking through a fortress full of slaves and blood sacrifices, and during that quest it is never made clear that Zamorak had denounced them or that the knights in Taverly consider them a rogue faction. In fact, I don't think F2P even get to learn of the Taverly Black Knights' existence, unless the dungeon is now accessible to new players.

That Guthix was born with the universe and was the personification of balance and nature, indestructible, and whose appearance was in the eye of the beholder (with his 'true' form being akin to a floating skull,) was much more interesting to me than 'he was a guy that got lucky.' It's also annoying that, given this was the lore beforehand, they then made Saradomin older than Guthix. It subverts Guthix's absolute superiority.

Yeah. Why couldn't Guthix be the product of another Elder God or something? That way he, Zaros, and Seren would be three of the oldest beings in existence. It would also make him not only the Balance to Saradomin's and Zamorak's Order vs Chaos, but also the Balance to Seren's and Zaros's Compassion vs Logic.

But how they decided to handle him was interesting in of itself. He is not the timeless, all powerful being you were led to believe. Just a tired, broken old man who protected the mortals from gods, but eventually gave up on his role and left the responsibility to you.

I don't know why they had to make Saradomin the destroyer of Guthix's homeland, though. There was never any real rivalry between the two factions, and Guthixians have always gotten along better with Saradominists than they have with Zamorakians.

If I'm right, we're still waiting on one or two people to finish posting. Hopefully soon though! I've started to slack again lately, so I'm wanting to get on with things. :P

Oh, what we got with Guthix in the end is still great- a fantastic piece of storytelling, I won't take that away from Jagex. But Guthix's original origins was what got me interested in Runescape lore in the first place, I'm pretty sure. It was a sad day when they retired the God Letters and Postbag Over the Hedge, both very informative reads when there was little information about lore available.

We're all aware that Armadyl is the one true god though, right?

Disclaimer: This was my opinion at least 5 years ago when I still played, and I'm someone who never paid the greatest amount of attention to the lore.

I was always of the opinion that either Armadyl or Guthix (keep in mind that Guthix wasn't dead or whatever at this point in time) were the gods I would prefer to have be the overlords of the world.
