“Well that was exciting.” Ko sat down and tried to catch his breath.

“Too bad the squid proved useless.” She poked the Overlord with her bow while it lay panting on the ground. “I’ve had a few familiar who talk, I don’t think this one can.” She continued bothering it, and it finally slapped the bow away and gave her a stern look, before putting on a look of angry boredom.

“Probably not, it’s just a squid. So I’m thinking about lunch, what about you?”

“Sounds good... Argh, hold on.” She tried to listen to the small voice inside her head.

“Anastasia, can you hear me?” A squeaky voice asked.

“Yes, Azura.” She sighed with dismay.

“What is it this time?” Ko inquired.

“Azura.” She replied quickly. Oh great, he thought to himself.

“So I’m in an embarrassing situation here... I was following a faint trail of magical essessence, which lead me into the cave network under Lumbridge, and then I fell and my bag of runes got stuck on a root below the ledge I slipped on.”

“So you’re stuck on a ledge in a cave?”

“Yeah... Know where that big snake thing lives? It’s right around there.”

“Fine, just wait, we find something to hoist you up first.”

“I have a rope, just nothing, and no one to help me use it.”


“Alright, we be right there.” Anastasia turned to look at Ko, who waited patiently to hear what was going on. “So we have a new problem.” Casting a teleport, they landed in Lumbridge, the day was still very young and there wasn’t a large amount of people up yet. Thankfully though, they were able to purchase a few lanterns from the general store owner, before running to the infamous Lum swamp land. Fighting their way through the murky water and mud, they soon noticed the scattered groups of goblins who liked to hide there coming out of their holes.

The Overlord did*’t really care if they were a direct threat or not, he just did*’t like goblins. He began blasting them away with large projectiles that were as if a bucket of water was shot out of a cannon. All of his attacks seemed to manifest at the tips of his tentacles, as if they were being projected from a crossbow. This time around it was impossible for the two, to miss the Overlords impressive accuracy, though these were just goblins... any simpleton could figure out how to kill one or two.

The Overlord managed to keep up with the two by propelling himself with a blast of water, and levitating after that to stay airborne for a few seconds, before repeating the process. The goblins had been discouraged and halted their pursuit, and not at a better time. The two looked at the entrance to the cave network and wondered how deep the drop was. Anastasia grabbed a stick, and used her necklace to light it ablaze, and then kicked it down into the hole. All three watched it fall, and they concluded it was about twenty feet down. A slip could end badly. The two slowly began to work their way down. “So we’re climbing down a rope to rescue a friend, for the second time today?” Ko huffed and puffed as he tried to use his legs to take on his weight instead of his tiring arms.

“Such is life.” She replied without much thought and continued down. The pair of lanterns served to provide enough light to move comfortably in the damp and dank caves. The two jogged through the maze, and soon heard a faint cry for help Anastasia casted the Lunar Contact spell and began speaking with Azura “I hear you, keep shouting.”

“Oh good..” She replied, her heavy breathing made Anastasia worried, she was probably terrified. They followed the screams all the way to a small, fast flowing stream of water, with a single rock for them to attempt jumping to. Anastasia’s long legs made it easy for her to cross. Ko nearly slipped, but managed to keep balanced and avoid a fall into the water. The Overlord tried to simply rest in the water, but Anastasia called for it to hurry up.

The two leapt through a dark cave entrance and gasped, there was an endless void that they nearly jumped head long into. “Hey guys...” Azura nervously called to them, the two gasped, things could’ve ended much more worse if it wasn’t for a lucky piece of rock jutting out from the wall to form a ledge.

“Toss the rope up to us.” Ko said, laying belly down and hanging slightly off the edge, arms stretched out and ready to catch. She tossed it, but it was several feet from reaching him. They tried repeatedly all without success.

“I could hold your feet, and let you reach down further.”

“No* Azura called up to them “That sounds a little... dangerous.”

“She’s right.” Ko said with a sigh of relief. It was at this moment the squid had finally become fed up with the human’* futile attempts at rescue. He leapt off the side of the ledge, causing Azura to scream loudly.

“Calm down.. is just a squid in a bowl.” Anastasia said to her. But as he began to grab the rope, a strange throbbing power grabbed his attention, and he instead leaned over the small ledge and looked at a bag hanging onto a root by it’s carrying strap. He used his suction cups to scale his way down towards it, and took the surprisingly heavy bag back up the ledge.

“He’s pretty intelligent, huh?” Azura asked curiously.

“I guess.” Was the uninterested reply she received. He finally took the rope in one tentacle, and scaled up the wall in the same way he scaled down it. Ko took notice of how the rope wasn’t nearly long enough for Azura to grab now that it had been hoisted all the way up.

“It’s not long enough is it?” He called down to her.

“Yeah it is.” She said, casting a spell which caused her enchanted rope to grow in length.

“Well that was a cool trick...” He commented to himself. Azura and Ko pulled her up to safety, and she let her bag rest on the ground as she hugged them both as a “Thank you.” While the love was being spread around, the Overlord made his way over to her bag, and began to sort through it, and soon he began pulling out shining, glimmering gemstones which he found to be very appealing to him. He stared at one intensely with his single large eye.

“Awww you like that... uh, does he have a name?”

“Overlord.” Ko said in a weird tone.

“Well Overlord... do you like the gems?” He nodded. Azura grinned with amusement as she looked at the two.

“He’s really smart, look at that, he understands us.”

“Eh.” Was Anastasia’s reply.

“They are amazing creatures, really, I studied them once. There isn’t much information on them since they live so deep in the sea, but what little we do know is interesting.”

“Well you can keep that one as a reward.” Azura said, as she pet him. He felt gross and slimy, but wouldn’t tell him that... it’d hurt his feelings. He placed the red gem stone in his bowl and ressumed his permanent look of angry boredom.

“How did you even trip into the endless abyss, land on a ledge, and not die?” Ko asked with a laugh.

“A bunch of roots and things broke my fall on the way down... But thanks guys, I really owe you one! And all this was worth it, since these gem thingies have some kind of energy I’m going to ask Uncle Zaff about.”

“Well have fun Azura, try not to fall in more holes.” Anastasia smiled thinly and gave her a pat on the back. Azura teleported away to ask her uncle about the strange objects she found, but in the mean time left Ko and Anastasia to relax finally. “Well I think the squid has proved its worth, yes? Saved Azura, not a useless familiar I guess... just not a very intimidating or powerful one.”


Ko began to whisper “He can hear, and understand us.”

“I know.” She said in a bored voice. “So maybe we can eat lunch now?*

*Perhaps.” As the two began to discuss where they wanted to eat, as the Overlord looked like an statue, many miles away Forrest was growing hungry as well. Pulling his axe out of a tree stump, he decided to try out the Elven cuisine since he was working so close to a small town of them, but he decided this was something better tried with friends. Lowe had decided to go on a solo exploration trip to clear his head and unwind... Azura went exploring too, the brothers were killing things. That only left Ko and Anastasia.
