“Yeah man… tonight ain’t a good night. I got… stuff… to do.” Lowe leaned in close to the young man.

“Don’t you do anything stupid.” The boy just smirked

“I can handle myself, look at this thing!” he said while unsheathing a large dagger, that more closely resembled a machete.

“Just what’re you planning on doing tonight?” he resheathed the weapon, and peaked over his shoulder.

“My first big thing, I’ll tell you later alright? Hey listen, I gots to run. Nice meeting and junk Ko man, I’ll see you later for some drinks aight? Peace ya’ll!” he flashed some peace signs while walking backwards, and bumping into a large man carrying a heavy load of crates.

“Whoa! Sorry man…” he quickly jogged away into the crowd, as the man who more closely resembled a bear grunted and continued. Lowe quickly took down his vacation sign, and put up the sign that read “Open.”.

“Alright, I wish I could show you around the place… but there are three rooms here. There’s the room we’re in, this is my shop, where I do business.” He shut the door behind them. “That room” he said pointing to a dusty, old door behind them. “It’s the stock room.” He pointed his fingers towards the last door to their left “And that door leads into a room where I eat dinner, have drinks, read books… and so on.”

A customer walked in. “And upstairs, there’s four more rooms, my bedroom is the one with stuff in it. The other bedroom only has a bed, that’s yours… we can get you some furniture later. The other is my itty bitty kitchen, get something to eat if you want. The last is the bathroom… make yourself comfortable I have to help this guy.” Ko nodded and walked slowly upstairs, as Lowe began showing the man around the shop.

Ko made his way up the surprisingly well built stairs and spotted nothing of interest. Upstairs everything appeared to be much cleaner than he would expect from a man living by himself. He opened the first door he spotted, and was able to tell it was Lowe’s. The room was quite spacious, with a large bed and plenty of room for a desk and paintings and other assorted items to make it feel like a very complete room. Ko was very confused by one odd thing however. The walls had a large number of teeth, and necklaces of teeth all over. Some were dragon teeth, others were of creatures he could not identify, and some seemed incomplete. He shrugged, and slowly shut the door… he assumed that Lowe was a man who liked trophies from his kills, and teeth were much smaller than entire bodies or heads.

He opened the other door and noticed it was the bathroom, nothing very interesting about it at all. He walked past another door, assumed it to be the kitchen and kept going. Finally found his room. It had a single window that allowed sunlight to enter, and it seemed a good size. It wasn’t as large as Lowe’s, but it was enough room for one man to live comfortably in. he sat down his small sack containing all his things and lay down. The bed was very soft. He yawned and rolled onto his side. “I need to go search for a job.” He sighed, leaping out of bed. “Never put off till tomorrow, what can be done today.” He recited his father’s motto.

Lowe spent the day dealing with costumers as always. He found the types of people that came in to be interesting. One regular was an old man who hunted instead of buying food, since “It’s always better, if ya kill it yerself.” Another was a shady fellow, he wasn't able to get many details about him, though if Lowe’s guess was correct… he assumed the man to be an assassin, or wilderness bandit of some kind. There was also Dief, who bought large amounts of knives and arrows time to time to help his “Friends” out when they were doing ‘missions’. The list stretched on quite a while, plus the irregulars were always abundant as well. Lowe’s store was convient to access, with no I.D checks. If you said you were eighteen, to legal age to purchase weapons… than you were eighteen. If you said you weren’t an ex convict who murdered for fun, why not believe?

Lowe’s sometimes joked that “So long as their money is good, I don’t give a damn who I sell to.”, though never publicly.

Ko’s search was unfruitful and he couldn’t track down anyone that lived near Lowe’s store that needed an assistant. He figured becoming a guard was an option if he got desperate enough; but would rather not shackle down to a single job for a set amount of time. He felt slightly shafted, as his friends had told him jobs would be every where. They even insisted his knowledge of summoning would increase his rate of hire tenfold, but so far no good. He sighed and headed back to the store, it was getting late and he wasn’t going to trust the locals too much after dark after what Lowe had told him.

He instantly began to notice a change. The streets weren’t completely deserted. The problem was most of the people wondering seemed ready to pounce on anyone smaller than themselves. One man purposely shoved into him. The man was tall and thick with a small group of dim looking teens prowling behind him. He suddenly heard them mumbling about a girl, “Just right there, let’s get the jump on her.” One whispered. Ko halted, this did*’t sound good. He debated with himself merely twenty feet from the store on seeing they would actually do anything and then assisting the victim if possible… or just make a run for it and try not to get involved. He heard one of the men yell loudly, followed by the sound of shattering glass. He whipped around to see the teens running off into different ally ways and one even climbing up a ladder to a roof. The big guy was bleeding from his head and unconscious on the ground.

People walked by, they did*’t seem to care or notice. It was only as the woman got closer did Ko realize it was Anastasia, a broken bottle of vodka in her hand. “Punks.* She uttered with disgust.

*I thought it would be best to simply ignore them. They seem like they want their egos to be feed… and ignoring them it the best way to deny them of that.” He replied calmly.

“Or smashing them over the head.” She replied dryly. Ko opened the door to Lowe’s shop for her, and they made their way in. Locking the door behind them, they saw Lowe trot from down stairs.

“Hey people. Find a job?” Lowe asked with a smile to Ko, before turning his attention to his love.

“Any luck with an apartment?” Ko shook his head.

“Yes actually. I found one right in Taverly, so walk will be much quicker to and from my new teacher.”

“Good stuff.” The three made their way into Lowe’s makeshift dining room. The meal was simple but seasoned well enough to be enjoyable. Lowe began eating, before he noticed Anastasia smelled strongly of alcohol, and even seemed slightly damp.

“Know, you smell just like some strong whiskey or something.” Lowe commented in the most polite way he could. She explained to him what happened in just a few words. He nodded and kept eating. That was another feature about her he liked. He would never have to worry about her going to the store and getting killed by some random gang member, or anyone. He had seen her fight very well against a large variety of foes. Monsters, magicians, men… they all had one thing in common, and that is all of them bleed the same. And he had seen her make all of them do just that. A knocking on the door interrupted the meal, Lowe reluctantly stood to answer. Opening the door, he instantly noticed a jumpy Dief standing before him.

“Hey man! Guess what I did*” he began, walking into the shop. “First big mission went real smooth man.”

“You’ve got blood on you.” Lowe remarked quietly.

“It’s great isn’t it?” he replied.

“Look you hungry? I’m having dinner right now.*

*Well yeah sure… but I don’t wanna spill all my dirty secrets to any guests you got. I can hear them talking.” He looked shiftily at the door.

“It’s just Anastasia and Ko. Neither of them will rat you out.

“I don’t know that weird looking guy good enough, he seems nice and all but, but I don’t know him.” He paused briefly to catch his breath. Lowe figured he had been running all the way here. “And Ana is nice and junk, but she’s a lady. I can’t tell these kinds of stories to ladies. It’s not the gentlemanly thing to do.” Lowe rolled his eye and told his friend to go upstairs to get some food, and that he would be up in a moment.

“Hey… you know Dief? Yeah, he just showed up and has some important stuff to tell me. I’m sorry guys, he’s pretty demanding sometimes.” He picked up his plate and followed Dief upstairs. Anastasia sighed and pushed her plate away.

“I like the boy.” She started on a rant “But Lowe shouldn’t surround himself with wannabe thugs like that.”

“I do not know the kid well enough to judge him.”

“Wise words.” She said tossing a napkin at him. An awkward silence set upon them as they had nothing to discuss. She was interested in his culture and background, but she was almost certain he would rather learn about Varrock. It was his new home after all, and you should understand where you live to the best of your knowledge. “Any questions about this city?” she spoke up, snatching him away from some of his deep thinking.

“Well actually… I do have a few questions if you don’t mind answering them.”

“I think we have time to kill while we wait on one-eye to get back down here.” She said with a cold laugh. Ko found the joke to be rather funny and laughed for several seconds.

“So my first question…” he said while strumming his fingers on the table. “Why did you move here?” she leaned back in her chair. Surprised by the question she thought for a moment.

“Well once upon a time, in a distance land…” she began to tell her tale.
