There might be a side effect of the mutation on her mind, but the brain activity that had been abnormal had not been significant enough to signify an immediate descent into panic.
The most likely situation, but also the most worrying one, was that she did*’t remember any of it. That could indicate a memory loss of some kind, but the severity of such a case couldn’t be seen until there was time to actually speak with her. There had only been one other case of mutation-induced memory loss, and that one hadn’t cleared up yet.
Meanwhile, true to the Doctor’s words, the door would not open for Rena when she came to it. There was a small pad on the side of the door, which looked like a scanner of some kind, but there was nothing else to indicate what might cause the door to open.
Central Security Office
The entrance to the office was the same as every other security door in the facility: a panel of reinforced metal that slid to the side to open and had no **** or handle of any kind. The panel next to the door was coded in some way that touching it would allow authorized personnel access to the room. Nobody was quite sure how the panels worked, as they did not use fingerprint scans or anything like that, but there was no denying that they worked perfectly. Had the soldiers and doctor come at a different time, they would have found that the door would not open for them.
As it was, a touch would make the door slide open, and they would be able to enter. It was unlikely that any of them had been to the central security office before, as it was somewhere that was typical restricted to project officials. There were a total of four security offices on the first level, each one equipped with camera access and some defense controls, but they were all subject to a final say from the central office. Naturally, if central did*’t veto them, they were automatically allowed to proceed, and usually that was the case.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
