Gary Riley
So, there is no air down here...
Gary thought to himself as he looked down from his map and realized it was actually suffocation that killed the girl. The first question that came to mind was:
why the hell not
? While it was completely believable that these two levels could be rendered airtight, air didn't just disappear. At least not as far as he knew.
Which meant that when this place was built, someone had designed a way to suck all oxygen out of these levels. Were the other levels designed this way? The thoughts that this program could malfunction, or that he could be locked into a level in the event of a revolt, made him that much more nervous about his work in the facility.
Then came the comment about how he could walk through doors, and he immediately wondered why he didn't just fall through the floor if that was the case. But he decided not to ask, as the answer would either be: 'I don't know' or something too complex for him to understand. The fact that the man seemed to grin about finding his dead fellow subjects gave Gary pause, but he quickly shook the though off.
Don't get paranoid
.
Turning his attention back to the map, he began walking forward. "Up ahead is the Processing Room." He reported. "After that there is a fork. The right path leads to a dead end, while the left path keeps going. It'll probably be best to check out the dead end first in case anyone died in there." Then, leading the way, he stepped through the door to the Processing Room.
Beneath the gold, the Bitter Steel.
