The add is mostly written, but it's late and I need to get to bed, it'll be up tomorrow. "He appears in the Form of a Man with many Countenances; and he hath a Book in his right hand. His Office is to teach all Arts and Sciences unto any; and to declare the Secret Counsel of any one."

Chris and Alex entered a large domed room within the fire caves. Almost the moment they had entered both realized something was amiss; scorch marks and deep scratches covered the walls and ground.
“There's been a battle here,” observed Chris, “And recently.”
“How do you know it was recent?” asked Alex.
Chris walked over to a small, dented, piece of metal on the ground, and picking it up, looked it over.
“This is a Void Knight symbol,” he announced, “More particularly, one that was made only recently. I'm willing to bet that at least some of my troops made it here and fought against something... I'm not sure who won, but at any rate, it seems whatever they fought is no longer here.”
“So where did it go?” questioned Alex.
“Who knows?” commented Chris, “All I can say is that it seems some survivors of the battle went through those doors.” Here, the Guthixian pointed out a large set of doors which had been opened.
“That's the way further in,” Alex said with certainty.
“Yes, it is,” muttered Chris.
“Chris,” said Alex, “I've been wondering something.” After Chris had turned to face him, Alex continued, “You are trying to stop us from getting to the city, right? While Hekate and Linksoma were with us, you couldn't do anything, because you couldn't defeat both. But I'm weaker than you, we both know this, and yet, you haven't tried to stop me from moving on, why is that?”
Chris' eyes widened for a moment, then he regained his composure. “You noticed,” he said softly. “Truth be told, I am curious about something, and in order to sate my curiosity, I must travel with you toward your goal.”
“Exactly what are you curious about though?” asked Alex.
“I can't tell you that for now,* answered Chris, “Don't worry about it though."

Alex gave Chris a questioning look, but remained silent as he made his way toward the doors at the end of the chamber. Chris, also keeping silent followed closely behind. As they made their way through the passage the doors led to, both boys noticed the air getting significantly colder, and were forced to not only put their shirts and armor back on, but also wrap cloaks around themselves. Soon, the discomfort they had felt in the caves was forgotten, and they actually found themselves wishing to return to the warmth the caves had provided. Then they made their way out of the caves entirely, and Alex stopped in pure shock.
“It's white,” he said in disbelief.
“Of course it is,” said Chris, “Isn't snow always white?”
“Snow?* asked Alex.
A puzzled look crossed Chris' face, but it was quickly replaced by one of amusement. “Alex,” he said, “Have you never seen snow before?”
“No,* Alex said quietly, “What is it?”
“This stuff,” replied Chris, picking up a handful of snow. “I don't know how to explain... when it's cold, water sometimes turns into this and falls from the sky instead of rain.”
“Wow!” exclaimed Alex, trying to picture this white stuff all around him falling from the sky itself.

Chris inwardly laughed as they continued their trek; Alex was staring around in awe, as if there was nothing more magnificent than this snow covered land, making Chris think of the time when he had first encountered snow, way back at the tender age of five. That had been while he still lived in Falador, along with his overly egotistical elder brother, his strict father, and his mother, who was regarded by many as one of the most devout Saradominists in Falador. Thinking back to this reminded him of some painful memories as well; how he was nearly forced into the monastic lifestyle. How, whilst trying to escape that lifestyle, the monks had acquired a Zamorakian artifact, bringing the Death Riders on them, one of whom had then taken a liking to Chris, and dragged him along as a new *squire.” The hard days spent working for that Death Rider, and the Zarosian who had helped him escape...
Chris was so absorbed in his musing that he didn't notice how close Alex had come to the odd river which flowed to the land. It was only when the young man lost his footing on the slick snow, and let out a shout that Chris was broken from his thoughts, and turned to find his companion falling headfirst into the river. Running to its side, Chris felt the chill that seemed to emanate from the river, and realized that, as he had thought upon seeing it, the river was not a natural one. He cursed himself inwardly, Alex was already pale as a ghost and unconscious, yet Chris had no idea what would happen if he jumped into the river himself... Although he hated to do it, Chris realized he had only one option if he was going to help Alex.
“Verial!” he shouted. At these words, a symbol appeared on his left hand, and darkness shot forth from it, opening a portal from Gielinor to a different world. Something emerged from the portal, and it closed immediately thereafter.
“Tsk, why'd you call me directly?”

Chris turned to see a girl in her mid-teens with long violet hair, dark brown eyes, and perhaps most unusual; black, bat-like wings, and a similarly colored tail, whose end seemed similar in shape to an arrowhead.
“Verial, you remember our contract, don't you?” asked Chris.
“Of course,” sighed the mazoku girl, “So what do you need?”
“My companion's fallen into that river,” Chris said hurriedly, “And I need you to get him out of it.”
The girl turned to the river and let out a low whistle, “Wow,” she said, “The Cocy†us, Lord Deathly Miasma must be behind this... You would've liked him Chris, he was like you in certain regards. Anyway, I'll get him out... But you'll need to deal with him after that,” she added, “He probably has some severe hypothermia after falling into the Cocy†us, it's a miracle he didn't die... a normal person would've had their blood freeze within their veins if they even touched the Cocy†us, and yet this guy's somehow alive after being submerged in it...
Well, you're right, better get him out.” Saying this, the girl summoned a group of shadowy tendrils which pulled Alex from the river and deposited him on the snow. Shortly afterward, the tendrils themselves seemed to freeze. Seeing this, the girl let out another low whistle, “Yep,” she said, “That's definitely the Cocy†us...”
Chris looked at Alex's still body, wondering if the boy had managed to be killed by the bizarre river.
“He's still alive,” commented Verial, “But probably has some nasty frostbite, and hypothermia to boot. Take him to that cave over there.” She pointed at a cave set into a cliff wall not too far off. “I'll start up a fire to warm it up, but you'll need to actually get him over there.”
“Right,” said Chris, grabbing Alex's unconscious form and beginning to drag him toward the cave.

“Well, this is a lovely sight,” said Hekate as she stepped out into the frozen land. “Much better than those hot, humid caves.”
Linksoma nodded in response.

“Well, aren't you being quiet?” asked Hekate, “Barely said a word on the entire way through the caves.”
“I've been thinking,” said Linksoma.
“Oh, about what?” asked Hekate.
“How very little of this land makes sense, and how you seem to know something about this all anyway. Why is that?” questioned Linksoma, “And before you reply, why are you here? You claim you need an artifact for a group you are with, but you have a way to contact that group don't you? You could set up a meeting point, and yet you do not, why is that?”
Hekate paused for a moment, then began laughing. When she had finished with this, she said, “Alright, you got me, sit down, and I'll tell you as much as I can. I'll have to tell you a bit about my past too, hope that's no problem.”
Linksoma said nothing, but did as Hekate had told him.
“As you may know,” said the girl, “I am not human; my race was once called the Asura, which literally means “fierce gods.” Although, we never claimed to be gods... later we were known as “devils” a word also used to describe demons, even though we have nothing to do with demons and their kin. More recently we have been called “mazoku” and “mahozoku” literally, demon race and magic race. The latter fits us best, since out of all the races descended from the Kadmon, we were the first to learn the secrets of magic. These we passed on to other races, along with the secrets of agriculture and pottery. But that is a story for another time...

Many years ago, I met a young man by the name of Elior Hyperion, a member of the race of light, the Tenzoku, which is opposed to my own. When we met, both of us were in human guises, and we spent much time together... I eventually fell in love with him, with his noble spirit, and with his kindness. Shortly afterword, we found out about the fact that we were members of races that had been at odds for millenia... I was heartbroken, but he comforted me, telling me that even if I was of a race against his own, he knew that our love was true... that statement not only made it clear that no enmity was between us, it was his confession of love. After that time, we met in secret... oh, don't make that look, I assure you, what we did in those secret meetings was chaste. Romantic, of course, but nonetheless chaste.
However, it soon became apparent that our relationship would be even more complicated than one simply frowned upon by both our societies. My sister, Usha, had fallen in love with an incubus by the name of Mephos Nidhogg. I understand how she fell for him; he was kind, humble, polite, and sensitive, on top of all this, he had risen to one of the highest ranks of our society, something that was, and still is, almost unthinkable among our strictly matriarchal race. All of this made him very popular and many women of our race, and even a few others tried to court him, but Mephos was never interested in any of them. He would always refuse their attempts as gently and humbly as possible. One of these potential suitors, a powerful Fey by the name of Sophia Nychta realized that Mephos was unattainable and settled herself to become one of his closest friends and confidants. My sister, however, never gave up on making him her own.

This would not be a problem in itself, except that Mephos was the second-in-command to a young man by the name of Setkul Akyros, and the two of them had worked together to build up an empire that was said to be unbeatable... and at some point while Elior and I were still meeting in secret, Setkul launched an invasion into Muspellheim, the homeland of Elior's people. My sister of course, offered her aid to Mephos and Setkul, while I, in secret offered my aid to Elior, this was the cause of much argument between my sister and I.
In the end, Setkul was somehow lured into a trap and defeated. Officially, he was killed, but I doubt that such a man as Setkul would really be killed, especially since Mephos knew many ways to cheat death... At any rate, with Setkul gone, we thought the war had been won, but instead Mephos began to move against Muspellheim with renewed force, apparently not willing to simply conquer it anymore, but rather to destroy it. Using my influence in Mazoku society, I was able to discover from the empress of all Mazoku, the one we call the Dark Mother, that Mephos had been led to believe that Elior had arranged Setkul's assassination...

As I mentioned before, my race was once called the Asura, the “fierce gods.” Part of the reason for this is, if we lose someone or something important to us, members of our race are prone to go into a kind of trance-like state. Our intellect and powers are enhanced, and we normally are driven by a powerful urge to kill off the one responsible for our loss. Mephos was already considered intelligent, even among our race, and whilst in this state, his intellect reached levels which few mortals can boast of... while his strategies had been formidable before, they now became unstoppable, and much of Elior's army was desolated. What was left gathered around the capital of Muspellheim, ready to defend it to the last. Thankfully, while this was happening I managed to find out the person truly responsible for Setkul's defeat; it was none other than his own father, the emperor of demons... the being known as the Void King.
I raced to Elior's side with this information, and was fortunately able to arrive even as he and Mephos fought. When Mephos found out he had been deceived by the Void King, he called off his attack, and negotiations began. Eventually, Elior managed to strike a deal; he would accompany Mephos to deal with the Void King, and in exchange, Mephos would have his troops abandon Muspellheim. Mephos held up his end of the bargain, and so he and Elior set out to face the Void King..."
