Alex flinched. The demon’s voice sounded more similar to the sound of stone grating than an actual voice. The demon seemed amused at the way both of the young men seemed terrified of it.
“Humans,” it repeated, “Why are you in my lair?”
Alex froze up the moment the demon asked this, and Chris could only barely stammer, “W-w-we wandered in by mistake…”
“Is that so?” asked the demon, blinking at them. Noting that both had only grown all the more pale, both of its mouths broke into disturbing smiles. “Do not be afraid little mortals,” it said, “I am not angry with you. In fact, I may be willing to help you… provided you do me a service of course…”
“You’re not getting my soul!” exclaimed Alex.
At this the demon laughed, “Your soul? Oh dear me, you must have been subjected to some odd stereotypes if you think I want your soul… No, my task is far more mundane. You see that knife over there?” Here the demon pointed at a small silver knife embedded in the wall.
“Yes,” said Chris cautiously.
“I would appreciate it, if you could remove that from my lair,” said the demon.
“W-why don’t you remove it yourself?” asked Alex.
“I would,” sighed the demon, albeit his sigh sounded more like a low growl, “But unfortunately it is blessed by the gods, so I may not touch it. You see, some time ago, a so-called ‘valiant paladin’ challenged me in the name of his god. I killed him of course, but as I did so, his knife was thrown from his hand and embedded itself in my wall. Since it is blessed I can’t remove it on my own, and it is such an eyesore…
However, you two, as mortals, can remove it. Do so, and you may keep the knife, I certainly have no use for it… Also, I will reward you, I have treasures that would make the richest kings blush with envy… or… should you prefer, I can bring you to the city of the Monolith in but a moment’s time, saving you a whole lot of trouble.”
“Why should we trust you?” asked Chris, feeling a bit bolder.

“If I wanted to kill you, I could do so right now,* replied the demon, “But I so loathe unnecessary violence.”
“Alright,” said Alex.
“Alex?” asked Chris.
“This will make things much easier on us,” said Alex, “And I mean, what harm is there in removing a knife?”
“I still don’t trust demons,” protested Chris.
“I know,” said Alex, “But as he pointed out, he could kill us already if he wanted to…”
“Indeed, so what do you have to lose?” asked the demon.
With this statement, Alex made his way toward the knife and reached out to grab it when a voice calmly stated, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
At this voice, the demon hissed loudly. However, it was a moment before the speaker appeared before them; the speaker wore a black cloak with the hood down and was of indeterminate gender, bearing deep violet eyes and shoulder-length silver-white hair with purple tips.
“Nightmare Miasma Mephos!” shouted the demon, slashing at the newcomer. Before his arm could connect, a wall of golden flames erupted from the magma lake, severely burning the demon’s arm, and forcing him to withdraw.
“Your senses have gone dull over the years, Lic’aeten Yfelgast-Cyning,” said the newcomer, “Or you would realize it is not truly I who stand before you, but something I left behind, should the unknowing stumble upon your prison.”
“Of course, a fragment,” hissed the demon, “I should have known.”
Ignoring the demon, the apparition turned back to Alex and said, “Do not fear him, for although he is one of the ancient demons, Lic’aeten is safely bound by holy flames; he cannot escape, nor harm you, at least not while that athame is embedded in the wall.”
“You mean the knife?” asked Alex.
The apparition rolled its eyes. “Yes, I mean the knife.”
“What would happen if it were removed?” asked Chris.

“Hopefully nothing,” replied the apparition, “But, that athame was embedded into the wall after it had been used to create a large magic circle binding Lic’aeten to this chamber with holy fire. If it were removed the magic circle would likely begin to weaken, possibly to a point where Lic’aeten could escape. More likely, he would try to trick you into cutting into the wall across part of the circle’s circumference. Cutting a magic circle with the athame used to make it generally dispels the circle. Which means he’d be free to attack you, and to wreck havoc on the land as he had done before being sealed here.”
“Do not listen to him! He is trying to trick you!” shouted the demon.
“You would probably be more believable had you not tried to strike me, and in doing so called the holy flames upon yourself,” commented the apparition.
“Well… what do we do now?* asked Chris, “Clearly we aren’t going to remove that athame… but that doesn’t help us get out of here.”
“Are you trying to get to the city?” asked the apparition.
“Yes!* exclaimed Alex.
“Then I suggest you walk around this lake,” said the apparition, “You’ll find a door on the wall across from this one. Through that is a path that will lead you to the exit.”
“Really?” questioned Alex and Chris together.
“Yep,” replied the apparition.
“Thank you!” exclaimed Alex, beginning to walk around the lake.
“Anytime,” said the apparition before vanishing.
Alex and Chris quickly found the door, and upon going through it entered a tunnel. They quickly made their way onward, ignoring the shouts and curses coming from the demon behind them.

No comments here? *sighs*
Alright, I have some bad news. My computer's hard drive is experiencing an error, and while so far I haven't notice any operating problems, both my OS, and the manufacturer's software are predicting a high possibility of a hard drive crash. Furthermore, neither my OS nor the embedded software seem able to correct the mistake.
Of course, it is possible that my hard drive will continue to function, in the best case scenario, the error will be either corrected, or the error is confined to a few sectors and the embedded software will simply move the data located there-in to different sectors. Worst case scenario; my hard drive either fails entirely, or the error erases the data of an essential system file. If either happens, my computer will probably be down for a minimum of two weeks while in extremely sluggish process, it is shipped to a warehouse owned by my warranty provider, and repaired there, because they are too lazy to repair things in store. Even worse, they might need to back order the actual part (which they will only do after my computer arrives at the warehouse; they are also to lazy to check and make sure they have a necessary part in stock either before or while a computer is being shipped), if such is the case it may take more than a month for them to repair and ship my computer back.
In the case of my computer crashing; my adds will become far more sporadic, but I will make a good faith effort to continue adding to each story once a week. However, if I suddenly disappear from the internets for a while, that's probably what happened...
Incidentally, having dealt with many previous computer crashes, I do backup my important files on a semi-weekly basis; as a precaution, I have begun simply working with the files on the driver that holds the backup. So even if my computer crashes after I have completed, but not posted an add, the add itself will be safe, and can be posted whenever I get access to a computer.

Nice to see someone is reading. However, this week's add is delayed until Friday. Because I procrasti- erm, I mean, because there were no comments by the add date. Yeah, that's it... certainly nothing to do with me procrastinating on an add, and having to write one for my other story before tomorrow... *cough* lazy *cough* Oh hi guys. Nice add there, but I was cheering against Chris and Alex(not for the demon just against them). I'm rather disappointed they made it through so easily. Is that the first time Mephos was ever "seen"? I can't exactly recall another instance but my memory needs defragmenting as far as such details go. I'm wondering how one being got so powerful that almost every major player in all this was connected to him in some fashion. Granted he was not human, I'm wondering if he was not on par or above some of the so called gods.
That said, stop your lazy procrastinations and get to work. I'm not paying you to sit around.(We'll ignore that fact that I'm not paying you to write either)

Oh... Orcris, you actually noticed... *mutters* and I had already planned to procrastinate some more and get it done tonight.
Rooting against Chris and Alex? Why ever would you do that? And there was a reason I introduced that demon, albeit not for his sake... and one of those ancient demons would probably lose out to a god, I mean Saradomin beat one with only a little support from human and dwarven armies. Now, FOUR of them would probably be too much for Guthix to handle... Oh, and I'm not foreshadowing anything, nor are there any hints about future adds in any of my stories here... Also, having Mephos' fragment appear was done for a reason... I wonder what it was?

“Are you sure this is a good idea Captain… that hobgoblin seems entirely lost and…”
A loud whack resounded through the tunnels as Chiptooth slammed his staff into one of the Void Knight’s heads.
“Stupid human!” he shouted, “Me can hear you. Now listen with softy ears; smoky brothers say this way right way, now shut you mouth.”
Having satisfied himself with this, Chiptooth walked onward, exiting the tunnel he was in and coming to a large cavern consisting of a narrow, natural bridge of stone extending over a large pit of lava. At the end of this bridge was a large door.
“See?* questioned Chiptooth, “This way out. Me told you, stupid soft-body thingies.”
“Captain,” commented one of the Void Knights, “Something is odd here…”
“I feel it too,” said the Captain, “A servant of Guthix resides here…”
“What you mean?” asked Chiptooth, “No servant of Goof-fix, only servant of Big High War god!”
“Something’s coming,” commented the Void Knight Captain, readying his mace.
“You stupid?” asked Chiptooth, “Nofing’s coming.”
Yet, he had no sooner finished this statement then a large fireball shot from the lava below the bridge, and settled on the bridge itself, right before the door.
“What be that?!” questioned Chiptooth.
One of the Void Knights gasped, “Captain… isn’t this…?”
“Indeed,” replied the Captain, “One of the four most ancient types of creatures… the being bound best to fire…”
“What be that?” repeated Chiptooth.
“A phoenix,” replied one of the Void Knights, clearly in awe.
And just as the Void Knight had predicted, as the flames faded away, they left in their place a bird with a brilliant gold plumage.
“Who are you?” asked the phoenix, “And why have you disturbed my rest?”
“We are servants of Guthix…” replied the Void Knight Captain, “And... a servant of Bandos…”
“The name Guthix I recognize,” said the phoenix, “As he is the one who called me and my tribe here, that we might bring fire and warmth to this land… But the name Bandos has no meaning to me…”
