“If I wanted to kill you, I could do so right now,* replied the demon, “But I so loathe unnecessary violence.”
“Alright,” said Alex.
“Alex?” asked Chris.
“This will make things much easier on us,” said Alex, “And I mean, what harm is there in removing a knife?”
“I still don’t trust demons,” protested Chris.
“I know,” said Alex, “But as he pointed out, he could kill us already if he wanted to…”
“Indeed, so what do you have to lose?” asked the demon.
With this statement, Alex made his way toward the knife and reached out to grab it when a voice calmly stated, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
At this voice, the demon hissed loudly. However, it was a moment before the speaker appeared before them; the speaker wore a black cloak with the hood down and was of indeterminate gender, bearing deep violet eyes and shoulder-length silver-white hair with purple tips.
“Nightmare Miasma Mephos!” shouted the demon, slashing at the newcomer. Before his arm could connect, a wall of golden flames erupted from the magma lake, severely burning the demon’s arm, and forcing him to withdraw.
“Your senses have gone dull over the years, Lic’aeten Yfelgast-Cyning,” said the newcomer, “Or you would realize it is not truly I who stand before you, but something I left behind, should the unknowing stumble upon your prison.”
“Of course, a fragment,” hissed the demon, “I should have known.”
Ignoring the demon, the apparition turned back to Alex and said, “Do not fear him, for although he is one of the ancient demons, Lic’aeten is safely bound by holy flames; he cannot escape, nor harm you, at least not while that athame is embedded in the wall.”
“You mean the knife?” asked Alex.
The apparition rolled its eyes. “Yes, I mean the knife.”
“What would happen if it were removed?” asked Chris.
"He appears in the Form of a Man with many Countenances; and he hath a Book in his right hand. His Office is to teach all Arts and Sciences unto any; and to declare the Secret Counsel of any one."
