“How goes our little expedition?”
The Seer master sat up, startled by the Coven Master’s sudden appearance. Despite her great abilities in seeing things that others could not, the Seer Master was never able to detect the Coven Master’s presence, it was unnerving to one like the Seer Master who was able even at a young age to detect every living thing within a mile radius.
“It could be going better,” admitted the Seer Master, “Some entity awakened the Krakens guarding the continent and as a result, our piece was knocked off the boat and nearly drowned. However, he is currently with Skad, and another girl, and making good progress through the desert.
Actually, speaking of which, that other girl is part of another group, a group of Zarosians.”
The Coven Master frowned at this unforeseen turn of events. Even she would have to tread lightly if Zaros was getting involved.
“What happened to the rest of the Zarosian group?” she asked. However, the Seer Master did not respond. This surprised the Coven Master, few in the Coven would dare ignore her. However, as she looked up, she realized that the lantern flames behind the Seer Master were no longer flickering, it was as they had been frozen in place. So that was it, the Seer Master wasn’t ignoring her, she couldn’t hear or respond.
Gathering up her robes, the Coven Master stood back, waiting for something to happen, as she knew it must. She wasn’t disappointed; a single violet, glowing, flower petal, drifted through the air. Soon it was joined by a myriad of others just like it, and they converged. The Coven Master chuckled to herself, she had figured he would come eventually, as obsessed as he was with interesting stories. However, something else happened that she did not expect; a series of blood red flames appeared near to the violet flower petals and also converged.

Soon after, the flower petals vanished, leaving in there place a young, bespectacled man with long silver hair that had been tied into a ponytail, and deep purple eyes. He wore a black suit that the Coven Master recognized to be of the fashion found in the Victorian Era of England, which of course had no equivalent in Gielinor, and thus gave away the young man as not being of this world.
Moments later, the flames (now a single large flame) vanished, and left behind a girl with long blond hair and blood red eyes. She wore a red skirt that barely reached half-way down her thighs, a sleeveless black shirt with red lace, a red bowler hat, and (of all things) large black boots.
“To what do I owe this surprise?” asked the Coven Master, smiling, “A visit from two witches of the Pentad?”
“By which you mean, ‘thank the gods and goddesses of this world that Safria is not with them‘,” said the young man, “Because then you’d have to worry about the whole rule of non-intervention, wouldn’t you, Lisette?”
“Rules, schmules,” said the girl, “We were actually surprised to find you here Lisette, Amethyst and I were setting up a game, when we noticed your presence.”
“Oh, what sort of game are you to up to this time?” asked the Coven Master.
“We’re betting on who wins the god wars,” replied Ruby.
*The god wars already ended dear,” the Coven Master pointed out, “It seems you’re late.”
“The god wars ended in a ceasefire,” commented Amethyst, “In other words, nobody has won that game, its simply been halted. However, should something happen to break that stalemate; that game will pick up right where it left off.”
“So, if I understand you correctly, the two of you are here to bring the god wars into motion once more?” laughed the Coven Master, “Incredible, you Pentad Witches truly are remarkable; embroiling a whole world in war simply for you own amusement."

“Heh, war is the mother of all invention,” laughed Ruby, “Once a war of this level starts, I will get to observe a vast amount of CHANGE over a short period of time.”
“As for me,” said Amethyst, “War forces acts of valor and heroism; the stories I will witness once our game resumes will be astounding.”
“You two don’t even care about who wins this do you?” cackled the Coven Master, “Oh, how remarkable, to start a war simply to pass the time.”
“Simply to pass the time?” questioned Amethyst, “Have you forgotten Lisette, the one thing that can kill even us Endless Witches is boredom. Starting some entertainment is a matter of survival. Speaking of entertainment… are you going to invite us to watch your little attempt at gaining the Monolith?”
The Coven Master froze; wondering what Amethyst was going to do since he knew that she was going after the Monolith.
As if reading her mind, Amethyst said, “Oh, don’t get me wrong, we won’t stop you. To us your attempt at the Monolith is simply a way to pass the time until the main event starts; a pre-game show, if you will.”
“Of course, sir,” replied the Coven Master, making a mental note to kill Amethyst the moment she got her hands on the Monolith, “I would be honored to have you two watch my game; please make yourselves at home.”
“How kind of you,” replied Amethyst.
“Make it interesting!” exclaimed Ruby, “Boredom kills us, and you wouldn’t want to be responsible for our deaths would you?”
The Coven Master nodded, musing to herself about the irony of Ruby’s statement, as she set about her business.

-----------AUTHOR'S NOTE-------------
Well, here are Ruby and Amethyst, who were introduced in the Black Pentagram (in case you haven't figured it out they are referring to the events that start in the Black Pentagram when they talk about their game).
I also feel I should explain some terms (although I think some have already been explained in the Black Pentagram)
Endless Witch: A term for magic users that can alter the laws of the universe to suit their whims. They are immortal, and extremely powerful. Most endless witches live in 'realms' small worlds they have created for themselves. Generally speaking an endless witch answers to the Witches' Senate, a group of thirteen witches referred to by the names of various gemstones, the witches senate passes laws meant to govern endless witches, including the law of non-intervention; which states "no endless witch may directly act in such a way that changes the fate of a world."
Another note about Endless Witches; they are truly immortal, meaning not only can they not die of natural causes, they can also not be killed. However, an endless witch can allow him or herself to die, by releasing whatever magic made them immortal. This is normally done by endless witches who have grown bored with the world. This is what Amethyst means when he says boredom can kill endless witches.
(Incidentally, while it is impossible to kill an Endless Witch, things like 'impossible' and 'immortal' have no hold on something that is Eternal, so theoretically an eternal thing could kill an endless witch.)
Pentad Witch: The five most powerful witches at any time, who head the senate, they are always referred to by the gemstones Ruby, Amethyst, Sapphire, Emerald, and Diamond.

Chris groaned to himself as he sat up. It was still dark out, but try as he might, he could not get back to sleep.
"Might as well take a walk around the camp,” he muttered to himself.
Without bothering to put on his armor, Chris made his way out of his tent. A few Void Knights noticed him and nodded in recognition, but said nothing. Chris saw no reason to talk, so he instead continued to walk around the camp. Before long he noticed Dentro, standing a ways out of the campsite, on a small dune. He seemed to be paying great attention to something below the dune. Curious, Chris made his way to the old man.
When he was within a couple of meters, Dentro turned and put his finger to his lips. He then motioned for Chris to come closer.
His curiosity peaked, Chris complied, and made his way silently up the hill. Once there, he was greeted with an unusual sight; down below the dune, a large group of small, winged translucent figures were dancing to a slow music made by some invisible woodwind instrument.
“What are they?” asked Chris, in awe.
“Sylphs,” replied Dentro, “Pure Faerie creatures associated with air. They are incredibly rare on Gielinor, yet see how many have gathered here.”
“They’re beautiful,” gasped Chris.
“Indeed they are,” replied Dentro, “But be careful not to stare too long, the dance of sylphs has been known to have a hypnotic effect. Some poor souls who have watched too intently for too long attempt to join in the dance; they end up dancing until they die of exhaustion.”
Chris flinched at this warning, but found himself unable to turn away.
“This land is unique,” continued Dentro, “It has been left alone by the so-called higher creatures for so long… as a result many species that have almost died out in the rest of the world live here in abundance. It is truly a treasure that must be protected. That is why, after we have dealt with the groups here, Lord Guthix intends to close this land off, and make it a sanctuary for these rare beings.”

“How can he do that without violating his own Edicts?” asked Chris.
“Through his followers of course,” replied Dentro, “Particularly his guardians, and the Void Knights. With those two watching over this place, it will be protected from other interlopers.”
“So then, this quest isn’t just about the Monolith, it’s about conserving an ancient part of nature?” asked Chris.
*That is correct,” replied Dentro, “For that purpose, I was called to leave my home behind and come here. To be honest, I am not sure I shall ever be allowed to return.”
“You think Guthix will keep you here as one of the wardens of this place?” asked Chris.
Dentro grew very quiet and did not respond.
“I have another question,” said Chris, realizing Dentro had no intention of answering his first. “How will this group survive? Will the Void Knights continually traffic supplies here? I don’t think you can grow much in the desert.”
“This land isn’t all desert,” said Dentro, “Further in there is a jungle, after that a series of mountains, still further on a frozen tundra, and beyond that, a land as desolate as the wilderness.”
“How do you know?” questioned Chris, *I thought that no one had come to this land in centuries.”
“They haven’t,” Dentro replied, “I can tell by sensing it… the type of soil.”
“Huh?” asked Chris.

“Here in this desert as in all deserts, the ground is loose and nutrient poor; a ways inward there is a large amount of nutrient poor soil with patches of incredibly nutrient rich soil; this is consistent with a rainforest or a jungle, where most of the nutrients are in the plants, not the soil. The exception being of course when a plant dies, then it decomposes, and as the land takes back its nutrients, it is very rich, until other plants begin to grow there of course. Beyond that is mostly rocky terrain, that is primarily granite and obsidian; igneous rocks, therefore likely found in or near dormant or active volcanoes, thus likely near mountains. After that, the soil is of good quality, but packed and frozen; suggesting a tundra or permafrost. Finally there is a patch of what can only be described as dead land; the nutrients have been destroyed, or removed, I don’t know which…”
“You can figure all that out by soil?” questioned Chris.
“I happen to be an expert at soil, as I am an earth mage,” replied Dentro, “Well, that’s enough talk for now, you should head back to bed; our trek tomorrow will be a long one, and you’ll need your rest.”
“What about you?” asked Chris.
Dentro raised one of his eyebrow’s ever so slightly, “I’ll be retiring for the night soon,” he answered, “You needn’t worry about me.”
Chris got the distinct feeling he was missing something, but as he couldn’t figure out what it was, he just gave up and went back to his tent. Soon after, he was sound asleep.
