"Yes," grumbled Skad, "Though not one of our group."
"What do you mean?" asked Alex.
"He means that I'm not from your cute little pirate ship!" responded a girl's voice.
Alex turned to the voice's source, and was shocked by what he saw. A girl with long green hair, who was a little older than him was standing waist-deep in the ocean. And, although she was facing away from him, it was clear to Alex that she wasn't wearing anything. Almost immediately Alex's face turned red.
"What?" asked Skad, acting amused, "Don't tell me you've never seen an undressed girl before Alex?"
"And you have?!" questioned Alex.
"Many times," laughed Skad, "I guess it just means your not a man yet."
"What's that supposed to mean?" demanded Alex.
"The fact you don't know proves my point," commented Skad.
"Hey," interrupted the girl, who had apparently taken advantage of the conversation to get mostly dressed, "By your reckoning, I wouldn't be a woman yet."
"With the way you act?" questioned Skad, "I don't believe that for a moment."
"It's true," commented the girl, with a smirk she added, "I would SHOW you, but you seem like the type who can't control himself."
"I controlled myself just now, didn't I?" questioned Skad.
"But I didn't give you a clear view," retorted the girl.
"Seriously, what are you two talking about?" asked Alex. In response, both Skad and the girl burst into laughter. "What in Gielinor is so funny?" Alex demanded.
"Don't worry about it," laughed the girl, "I'm Hekate, by the way, nice to meet you."
"I'm Alex," Alex replied.
"Well at least he's more polite than you," Hekate said to Skad.
"Um, how did you get here?" asked Alex.

"I got knocked off my boat when the krakens attacked," replied Hekate.
"Wait, you were on the other boat?" asked Alex.
"Yes, the one you attacked without provocation," said Hekate.
"We had been attacked earlier and were on edge," hissed Skad.
"So you've told me," said Hekate, "And now that I've met your companion, I'm actually inclined to believe your story."
"But that doesn't answer why your group was here in the first place," said Alex.
"Probably the same reason you're here," replied Hekate, "We've been sent on an archeological mission of sorts. Our leader has asked us to find and excavate an ancient city in these parts."
"But you are clearly armed," Skad pointed out, noting the girl's armor and sword.
"There are said to be monsters in these parts," commented the girl, "What good is making it here, if we die before we reach the city?"
"Sounds reasonable," said Alex.
"Of course it does to you," commented Skad, "I have one more question, who is your leader?"
Hekate paused, then responded, "Dr. Nabanik, perhaps you've heard of him?"
-She's speaking the truth.- Skad's demon told him, -But there's something she's not telling us, probably related to this Dr. Nabanik; like what his goals are, or who HE works for.-
-What should I do, then?- Skad thought.
-She is very powerful, perhaps a match even for you.- commented the demon, -For now, we cannot have the boy suspect anything. It may be wise, in that case, to put up with her for a while.-

"I suppose we have no choice," sighed Skad, "Will you be coming with us?"
"Oh, is that an offer?" asked Hekate.
"Why not?" sighed Skad, "We need to find water of course, and to do so, we must traverse the desert. Given those krakens, its possible there are some strange creatures living here. If so, I'd rather have two competent warriors alternating watch."
"Wait!" protested Alex, "Are you saying I'm not competent?!"
"So, are you coming?" asked Skad, ignoring Alex.
"Sure, safety in numbers after all," replied Hekate.
"Wait, Skad, answer me!" demanded Alex. But both Skad and Hekate clearly weren't paying attention to him, and continued into the desert, ignoring Alex as they did so.

Hm, no comments? Oh well, sorry this will be a slightly boring part of the story as I explain the fate of our little groups. Jen blinked against the bright light. She could tell that she was in one of the hammocks set up in the ship's hold, so why was there bright light? The answer became clear when she opened her eyes and looked around; she was in the ship's hold, but it seemed that there was a gaping hole in the side of said hold. For a moment she was afraid that the ship was sinking, but as the moments passed, she realized that somehow, the ship was aground.
A few minutes later, Jen walked onto the deck, where she noticed Naudos was talking to what appeared to be half of his original crew. This stopped the moment he noticed Jen.
"Ahoy there, lass!" greeted Naudos, "Good to see you up and about."
"What happened?" questioned Jen, trying to recollect the events after the krakens had shown up.
"Due to a bit of luck and a lot of skill on the part of my crew we managed to get her to land," commented Naudos, patting the mast of the ship, "But she's damaged bad, and unfortunately, we seem to be in a desert; no trees to be had around here. So we can't repair her."
"Wait, in the desert?" questioned Jen, "How much food and water do we have left? I didn't notice much in the hold."
"Don't you worry about it," said Naudos, "For water, well... our cabin boy's good at tinkering, he built us something to get fresh water from sea water. As for the food; fish flock aplenty to where a kraken sleeps, and, as I'm sure you remember, there's plenty o' kraken round these parts. Anyway, our main concern aught to be wood, since unless we repair the ship, we ain't gettin off this place, period. In fact when you came out, I was just discussing who to send into the desert as a search party."
"I'm guessing Alex volunteered right away," said Jen. Noting the look on Naudos' face, she added, "What's wrong?"
"Alex ain't onboard, lass," Naudos sighed, "He fell overboard during the attack, and we 'aven't seen 'em."

"Wh-what?" stuttered Jen.
"Sorry, lass," sighed Naudos, "There was nothing I could do..."
"At any rate, you should cheer up a bit," Aion commented, "I don't think Alex died, and if I've judged the current correctly, he's probably on this continent."
"What makes you think he's alive?" questioned Naudos, looking surprised.
"Ah, you didn't notice?" asked Aion, "The krakens seemed to be keeping him at the surface after he fell in; although, I have no idea why..."
"That is strange," agreed Naudos, "Generally speaking, krakens quickly smash anything to big too eat, considering it to be a threat to 'em."
"But, you're saying that there's a good chance Alex is alive, and on this continent?" questioned Jen.
"Quite probably," replied Aion, "Of course, I could be wrong."
"As long as there's a chance..." said Jen, "Captain, I want to join the search party."
"Oh?" questioned Naudos, "Hoping to find Alex?"
"There is that," said Jen, "But also, I'm of little use here on the ship, and besides, we still have to complete Mr. Nejem's mission."
"What an impressive lass," Naudos said to himself, "Loyal to an employer even in a situation." Speaking louder he said, "Well then, I approve your request, wait in my cabin, once supplies are gathered, your group will head into the desert."

"Lady Usha! We've reached land!"
Usha looked up from the manuscripts she had been studying, and, after a sigh of relief, made her way to the door of her massive cabin, and took a step aside.
Once on the deck, she looked around. On the ship's port side, there was naught but ocean to be seen, but on the starboard side, an entire continent was visible; a continent that likely not a single person had set foot on since the first age. At first glance this continent was mostly sand, but as she continued to gaze at it, Usha noted that in the distance what appeared to be a mountain range was visible. After a moment of staring, she closed her eyes, and began to concentrate.

-Hekate.-
-Hey sis, nice to hear you again.- Hekate's voice filled Usha's head, and Usha simultaneously felt relief at her sister's well being and annoyance at her carefree tone.
-Where are you?-
-You're going to love this,- Hekate's voice replied, -I'm with that Alex kid and his demon-contracted tutor.-
-Demon contracted tutor?- questioned Usha.
-His name's Skad Helreighn, heard of him?- asked Hekate.
-You haven't?- asked Usha, -He's an infamous killer... you're not as lucky as you seem to think...-
-So what?- questioned Hekate, -He's probably drawing power from his demon, right? So just send Liam to me. A little glance from Raziel and this Skad guy will probably be a wimp.-
-Are you forgetting?- demanded Usha, -Liam is on the mainland! How am I supposed to contact him, and then get him over the sea and to you?-
-It seems you do know your boyfriend as well as I do,- commented Hekate.
-What do you mean?- asked Usha.
-Whatever we've been sent to find is obviously some ancient magical artifact, right?- asked Hekate, -Do you think the Cult of Darkness, as obsessed as it is with ancient things and magical things, won't come after it?-
Usha was taken aback. What Hekate said made sense after all, and yet it hadn't occurred to Usha.
Before she could respond, a commotion on the deck caught Usha's attention.
-Seems something interesting is happening over here.- Usha said -I better take a look. Talk to you later.-
-Bye sis.- Hekate replied.
Usha opened her eyes and found what was surprising her crew; an old man in a black cloak was standing in the desert, smiling and waving.
"Who are you?" questioned Usha.
"He appears in the Form of a Man with many Countenances; and he hath a Book in his right hand. His Office is to teach all Arts and Sciences unto any; and to declare the Secret Counsel of any one."

"Do not worry," said the old man, "I come with a message from Lord Zaros!"
"Really," mused Usha, "Have any proof?"
The old man smiled and motioned with his hand. Instantly, the ocean around the Zarosian ship froze, smoke blackened the sky, and shadows obscured all but the ship and the old man.
Usha had seen this type of magic before, and knew of only a few who could use it, and they were all...
"Mahjarret," gasped Usha.
"What about them?" asked the old man, now standing a few feet in front of Usha.
"When did he get there?!" questioned one of the crew members.
"Be silent!" ordered Usha. Turning to the old man, she said, "I see you are a mahjarret, but which one are you?"
"Worried I might be one of those fools following the usurper?" questioned the old man, "I see you are properly cautious, even though you don't know Lucien is making a move for the artifact on this continent."
At this the old man vanished, only to reappear seconds later, sitting on the mast.
"Which mahjarret I am is irrelevant," he commented, "So long as I am not of the usurper's sect. So by all means, assume that I am Jhallan."
"Jhallan is said to be weak," observed Usha, "Surely you aren't he."
"Weak for a mahjarret is not the same as weak for a human," retorted the old man, "But regardless, I will tell you I am here on behalf of Lord Azzanadra; that should convince you that I am a servant of his Augustness."
"I see, since none of the Zamorakians know that Lord Azzanadra has been freed yet," commented Usha, "But then again, neither does Jhallan from what I hear... so I know you're not him. But nonetheless, we will welcome you and heed what you have to say."
"Most excellent," commented the old man, "Now, then, our august master promised to let you know more about the artifact you seek on this land... well, sit down please, because what I'm going to tell will give you a shock..."
