Good theories, everyone ;) And Toby, I didn't plan on writing about the God Wars. My next story is going to be farther in the future than that...
I guess I had better get started, then, if my pets are in harm's way ;)

Koelthaer and Zaros stood facing each other as silence fell on the village. Then, Zaros hurled a ball of ice across at the Xinadi. Fire met it in midair, leaving the attack as nothing more than a puddle in the middle of the arena.
'Is that it?' taunted Koelthaer. 'You have no chance against me!'
Zaros drew his scimitar. "We'll see about that," he shot back, and suddenly he charged at Koelthaer.
As the Khanu magic rushed through the air, Zaros felt the flames coming. Then, he reached deep into his soul and pulled out Khanu magic of his own.
The fire burst in the air harmlessly, far from the Emperor. Zaros had a moment of Koelthaer's shock to work with, and he used it to duck inside the Xinadi's defenses and slash with his blade.
Koelthaer blocked it at the last second with his magic, and then Zaros made a fiery explosion right beside his blank face.
The Xinadi stumbled backwards, as the fire burned his flesh. Then, he regained his composure. Fire of his own roared around him as his rage grew. 'You will pay for that!' he bellowed, hurling attack after attack at Zaros.
Zaros blocked them all, then switched to Phori for a moment to forge an ice helmet to shield against Koelthaer's mental attack. "I can defend myself," he boasted to the Xinadi. "Your powers are worthless."
'Where did you learn Khanu magic?' Koelthaer spat. 'Who dares to instruct an outlander in our sacred ways?'
"My master is the Green Lord," Zaros replied. "He taught me, and I know your secrets now!"
Zaros hurled a mental attack at Koelthaer. However, he felt a firm resistance, one that paralyzed him as well as the Xinadi. Then, he heard Koelthaer laughing.
'You would try to defeat a Xinadi in a contest of mental power? So be it, fool!'
The battle arena had shifted; no longer was it in the Lora village but directly between the two combatants minds. Zaros struggled to keep his thoughts intact, though he constantly felt his memories and knowledge blurring as the battle wore on.

'You have no chance!' Koelthaer taunted, and Zaros began to believe him. The Xinadi was able to speak while still maintaining a strong mental attack and defense. Zaros could not form a single word without breaking his concentration.
Zaros felt Koelthaer making progress into his own brain. His memories began to shear away, and Zaros saw himself, sitting in Set's courtyard while Azzanadra tried to teach him his lessons. The scene shifted, and now he saw himself eating dinner with the Dorgeshuun on his way to Ikov. He saw smaller images between: standing in his father's old house in Kharyll, training with Zamorak under Armadyl, seeing Esther for the first time in Ulrich's court...
"No," Zaros growled, trying to hold his mind together. "I am a god! I will not be broken by you!"
He saw his first meeting with Ihrba*ka, his Coronation as Emperor, his fight with Raldeir, and suddenly the memories became blurry. He felt power rising within him, as though he had the power of two souls. His heart rose as he heard Koelthaer growl as he tried to fend off Zaros's new power.
Zaros saw a young Koelthaer having his mind brutally attacked by his teachers, watching his brother die at the hands of a Lora Xina*i, looking at a girl Xinadi, standing beside someone's grave...
Koelthaer fell to his knees, overwhelmed. Zaros walked forward, carried by his mental power. In the back of his mind, Zaros analyzed the images he had seen. He felt sorry for Koelthaer, and suddenly he understood the Xinadi.
However, Zaros was carried forward regardless. Hatred still welling inside him, he brushed away his conscience. The Xinadi, kneeling before the Emperor, raised his head. Zaros gripped his scimitar, and then he slashed sideways, severing Koelthaer's head.
Zaros looked down at his hand, taken aback at what he had just done. Tsugon's warning came ringing back into his ears, the cost of hatred clear. He had not listened to his good nature.
