"It's a bit more complicated then that Forlirn. In human society, only slayers tend to fight dragons. The actual military is only really used to fight other human nations. We only really go to war against dragon kind whenever a dangerous clan arises, some sort of atrocity of committed, or the general hatred towards dragonkind reaches it's peak. Then there is typically an attempt to "purify" our world by fighting as many dragon clans as we can find. Actually, the general rule of thumb is not to attack any other human nations during this time so that we appear to be a unified race. In that sense, it is actually a good thing. Of course I can't defend the fact that it involves fighting your kind. I have to admit that I am shocked at the frequency of conflict in your race. I was under the impression that you were a lot more unified then how you make yourselves out to be." Matt replied.
"Calm down Caelidorus. I know this is odd for you, but you need to enter the ruins with a calm demeanor or else you will be overwhelmed. Just put it out of your mind. It was probably just a bad, but very odd dream." Matt said. He continued to pet Caelidorus's nuzzle in an attempt to calm him down.

"I do believe any research you try to perform with dragons will be limited," Forlirn said, tilting his head to the side. "Very few dragon clans would be willing to admit outsiders long enough for that sort of observation. Hell, even most individual dragons wouldn't be willing to be subject to observation..."
"Regardless of the specifics, conflict still arises," Forlirn replied, blinking. "And we generally have more reasons to fight each other than humans have to fight each other. So needless to say, other dragons would still be something I'd be wary about, especially since I don't have a large clan behind me to dissuade attackers. I'd essentially be on my own, for all intents and purposes."
Caelidorus blinked a few times, then nodded.
"True, true... I'll not think on it... least not while there's important stuff to focus on. Anyway... are we going to be heading off to the ruins soon? I think I've had enough waiting when we're this close to our goal..."

"I am quite surprised to hear that Forlirn. I would have sworn that dragons didn't fight dragons nearly as often as humans fought other humans. It probably just isn't as apparant to humans since dragon clans tend to be fairly distant from human cities. But I can't believe that every dragon you meet would want to kill you on sight. Is it possible for you to join another clan? I mean, humans can switch their nationality of they want to, so why couldn't a dragon do something similar?" Matt asked.
"Well I can't see any reason for us to remain here. I'm all for leaving and i'd imagine that Forlirn and Frilarth would say the same thing. I highly doubt that they would want to remain in this place." Matt said.

"It's very rare for dragon clans to open themselves to outsiders in such a way," Forlirn said, sighing slightly. "And when they are, joining is usually a very difficult process. Generally, dragon clans are only composed of dragons who are part of the clan's bloodline. Outsiders... well, I believe prisoners are the most common case of outsiders being brought into the clan. Which would be less than optimum for me."
"Well, then, lets be off," Caelidorus said, tilting his head lightly. "As interesting as this place has been, we have more important things to do than sit around and wait. Or whatever it is we're doing."

"I get the feeling that you wish things were different Forlirn. I gather you would rather dragon clans were more open or that dragons wouldn't kill each other as often. Well why don't you join one of those clans that at least offers the chance to join? Sure the odds may not be in your favour for being accepted, but if you managed to get in then you would have a clan and family again." Matt said.
Matt quickly got to his feet and began walking towards the passage leading from the room. "Your right. Lets get out of here. I'd like to be in and out of those ruins as quickly as possible." He said.

"As simple as that may sound... well, finding those clans is a large task in its own right," Forlirn said with a slight shrug of his shoulders. "I suppose I'm not widely traveled, but throughout my life, the Soulbound are the only clan I've found that tolerate outsiders. And that's likely because of the influence of Soul rather than their own decisions..."
Caelidorus nodded slightly, quietly following after Matt. Forlirn shook his head lightly and started walking in a different direction. "This way. There is more than one entrance to this citadel. The one that we entered by is not the closest to the ruins."

"So live with the Soulbound then. From what I saw, I gather that you and Soul have a fairly close relationship. It also seems as though they are fairly willing to allow outsiders into their clan. So if that is the case, then why not join them?" Matt asked. "Do you really think that Soul is the only reason they are so open to outsiders? I mean, if Soul were to disappear one day, do you really think they'd just suddenly become hostile to others?"
Matt made a quick turn and began following Forlirn. "Thanks for the tip Forlirn. Speaking of that, about how far away is the ruins? Can we expect to enter them today, or will we have to wait for tomorrow?" Matt asked.

"I may..." Forlirn said, thoughtfully glancing upward. "But I'm not entirely certain I want to. The clan may be welcoming enough, but I can never be a true part of it. Soul is really the only one I have any sort of connection with there. And if Soul were to suddenly vanish... Well, I do believe there would be chaos. And that the clan would quickly cease to exist..."
"The ruins are quite close, actually," Forlirn replied, nodding slightly. "If the weather isn't terrible... about an hour's journey. Hopefully we'll have explored all we need to by nightfall, if we're lucky."

"Well where else could you go Forlirn?" Matt asked. "They seem to be one of the only clans that are welcoming to outsiders. You could return to Glaruindem I suppose, but like I said, people there are becoming more hostile towards dragons. You could see a mob of people come to attack you at some point the future. You really do not have many options. And I suppose that does make sense. The clan was founded by Soul and much of their traditions involve her. They wouldn't have a clue on how to survive if she were to vanish."
"Only an hour eh? You must have explored it at some point in the past Forlirn. With them being so close, I can't see how you could have avoided it. If you have been in them before, then surely you know what we should be looking for. Do you have any ideas?" Matt said.

"I suppose I do have little choice, though I doubt I will end up joining them," Forlirn said, sighing gently. "While I admire their way of life... I suppose it's too simple for me. I'm a scholar at heart, and I know for a fact that the Soulbound will not be able to satisfy my desire for knowledge, nor could I carry out delvings of my own design. One cannot study magic in Neuva, and magic is perhaps the only mystery that one can learn deeply of with naught but their mind."
"There is much within... such as the tablet of the Name," Forlirn said, his tone growing serious. "You mustn't gaze upon it, else you will be cursed with a dark, terrible knowledge, a sort that is better to never be known. Beyond that, however... Well, I've never ventured deep within, so I can say little..."
