I don't think you write poetry to convey your view on an issue. I think you write it to bring the issue to attention. But this is just a personal opinion.

I'll be gone for the next few days, so I'll have to respond when I get back. Hopefully when I return, I'll be using a new 15.4" Macbook Pro, too. :D

Crocefisso: I'd be honored to help you write your renga. However, the only information I know about one is from a quick scan over a w*kipedia article.
The bare facts:
5-7-5 followed by 7-7.
Each set is written by one person, then passed on to the next. This goes on until the leader wraps it up.
Correct me if I am wrong: I'd love to improve on my knowledge. Also, are you familiar with Slam Poetry? MARC SMITH (So What!) came to a college near me yesterday. To clarify, he is the father of slam poetry... Cool guy. Emotional guy. So very emotional... I read that he actually, with his fierce battles with invisible demons in the mirror, tore his family apart, until recently he met up with his son by chance on the street. This turned into a cup of coffee, a movie, another movie, a meeting, and then a collaberation of the son's music abilities with Marc's emotional words.

Thanks for agreeing to take part, I am going ahead with the plan and the thread should be up soon, I will have some help on the thread. If you can write haiku you can write renga.
And you can obviously write haiku, because that last one was very fuuny. :P

Hahaha, no, that one isn't mine. That's an old Haiku from a while back, I just repeated it ;)
Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility: the emotion is contemplated till, by a species of reaction, the tranquility gradually disappears, and an emotion, kindred to that which was the subject of contemplation, is gradually produced, and does itself actually exist in the mind. ~William Wordsworth

With regards to this "what is poetry?" debate that seems to be going on, I can provide you all with a very simple answer. Poetry is whatever you want, and perceive, it to be. Simples. ;)
I remember Yrolg posting he didn't mind a QFC if someone had taken part in the discussion. I think I have, so I am going to post one.
Legacy of the Mora is the name for the renga idea, and the QFC is 49-50-287-60778641. I hope all prospective contributors will feel free to contribute.

This is true. But if there is not an overflow of emotion, how can it truly convey the thoughts and feelings of the writer? Also, shall we continue the renga that you started, or write our own part?
