I'm publishing a first book of my poetry. It's due out just before Christmas, and is titled Sharing Christmas .

I wrap up the book with some final thoughts (which include, of course, another poem). Here's a snippet:

If there was something you really loved about this book, I’d enjoy having you send me an email describing what you liked, and why. Corrections and other editorial comments will also be given due consideration. Of course, I have a very strong kinship with a character in Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass , who said:

*When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.”

And with that thought comes the inspiration for the final poetic work of this book:

The Poet’s Response

You’ve found an error, a misspelled word,
Or a comma out of place,
Or some meter, or some rhyme
For which you find no saving grace.

For truth be told, you know you’re right.
You’re the critic’s very essence.
And in claiming that’s just what I meant,
I’ll invoke poetic license.

:P ...
Hey, YOU try rhyming "license"!!!

Greetings! I'd like to share a poem by Rumi. Rumi is one of my biggest inspirations, role model and my favourite poet of all time.

If anyone asks you
how the perfect satisfaction
of all our intimate wanting
will look, lift your face
and say,

Like this.

When someone mentions the gracefulness
of the nightsky, climb up on the roof
and dance and say,

Like this.

If anyone wants to know what "spirit" is,
or what "God’s fragrance" means,
lean your head toward him or her.
Keep your face there close.

Like this.

When someone quotes the old poetic image
about clouds gradually uncovering the moon,
slowly loosen knot by knot the strings
of your robe.

Like this.

If anyone wonders how Jesus raised the dead,
don’t try to explain the miracle.
Kiss me on the lips.

Like this. Like this.

When someone asks what it means
to "die for love," point
here.

If someone asks how tall I am, frown
and measure with your fingers the space
between the creases on your forehead.

This tall.

The soul sometimes leaves the body, the returns.
When someone doesn’t believe that,
walk back into my house.

Like this.

When lovers moan,
they’re telling our story.

Like this.

I am a sky where spirits live.
Stare into this deepening blue,
while the breeze says a secret.

Like this.

When someone asks what there is to do,
light the candle in his hand.

Like this.

How did Joseph’s scent come to Jacob?

Huuuuu.

How did Jacob’s sight return?

Huuuu.

A little wind cleans the eyes.

Like this.

When Shams comes back from Tabriz,
he’ll put just his head around the edge
of the door to surprise us

Like this.

Just thought I'd share another something. :)

Untitled
In a darkened, damp December
Sat on rug, near glowing ember
And after evening darkest passed
How could I, but not remember

Packages 'neath a tree amass
O' how the floor seemed brittle glass
When sitting near said pack, inspect
How brisk the time, seems never last

While packages be cheating checked
'Neath tow'ring tree, unphased, erect
As I resume this rueful feat
The tocks of ticking, time infects

Each tick a chip off gilded seat
Which sat so high above the street
Comes crashing down, and house to quake
Now sitting there, confessed defeat

Sat giving head a modest shake
Ashamed of my earnest mistake
Then saunter up to bed and sleep
Now fake a smile for when I wake

The fondest mem'ry travels deep
Those mem'ries, which, we wish to keep
But when you take these moments slow
You won't look back and start to weep

At mem'ries which, seen cloudy though
But present's past so seemed to glow
Could want to wish to change, somehow
Before so ends the final show,
And curtains close, and take a bow.

Lighting the flame that ignited the Revelation of Osiris, I'm rising above the horizon, I blackened the diamond and siphoned all the water supply to Zion. I cut the head clean up off the lion. Put it on a spike and all of the sheep became enlightened. I'm standing right beside Poseidon, about to release all these titans. Foot prints in the sand, followed by a heard of rotten bison.

heavy
is the head that wears the
crown
,
which is why I'm always lookin' down, lookin' like I'm always down.
