Conleth barely hesitated.

“I’ll help take care of whatever’s in that forest!” He shouted, partly to the one who had begun making his way toward the boat. With any luck, the river being temporarily removed would have slowed them down enough for him to help take care of them once the more immediate threat had been dealt with.

Dashing straight towards the bridge, Conleth leaped onto the wall opposite the side the troll was on and crossed over, jumping up into one of the lower branches of a tree that was yet to ignite.

Climbing higher into the forest, he swung from tree to tree, carefully avoiding areas already aflame, until the archers were in sight.

Falling down from the upper branches, he drove his dagger into one, taking them by surprise. As they paused in shock, their targets across the bridge may have time to find a decent shelter that they could still attack from.

Pulling his dagger out of the brigand, he backed away into the trees, where he had the advantage. Unfortunately, they were on fire, meaning he had to avoid both the flames and the arrows, and quite possibly flaming arrows. ~this is going to be so much fun~ he though sarcastically to himself.

(Is that OK? I'm just worried about accidentally contradicting something or controlling enemies or the environment when I shouldn't.)

Zed

Zed's spell seemed to have successfully extinguished most of the troll's flames, and it apparently caused a good deal of pain. Kuro also landed a brutal hit, though the troll seemed to soak damage as easily as a sponge drank water.

He was alerted by the screams of the archers in the forest—a dozen shouts in unfamiliar voices confused him, but when they began to loose arrows, he raised his staff for a defensive spell.

"I think I've had it with those..." He grit his teeth as his blue, dome-shaped magical shield went up. Arrows connected, only to glance off of its surface harmlessly. He would not turn into a pincushion again. He maintained this shield, learning from his mistakes against the Hamstead archers.

Zed focused on the troll, and his eyes widened when it indeed posed a riddle. The riddle was likely of some significance, but he had not time to try and decipher it at the moment. The troll went on to regenerate his wounds, entangle Annie in the grass, and shape the river into some sort of sinister snake and hurl it at their party. A troll that could speak, regenerate, and control magic as precisely as an advanced human mage? What in Tyrrus's name were they dealing with?

He was too far from Joric to share his cover, and that rock wouldn't protect them both. So Zed poured the rest of his strength into his shield, and braced for the impact of the water. "This is gonna hurt like hell..." He muttered. His shield could hold out against the initial impact, but it would shatter like glass afterwards.

His shield also happened to be soundproof, so he could not hear what Kuro was saying, nor could anyone hear the slew of profanity from Zed as he braced for impact.

Henry

As their party trudged on, Henry kept quiet at the rear. This march reminded him of his days in the army, back before he was in the cavalry. Normally, Henry would wear lighter armor, usually boiled leather, when traveling. He looked more like an adventurer then some highborn knight, and it would save him from aches and pains later on. But he knew he was walking into a potential warzone, so he'd rather not be killed instantly by one swing from an ogre.

As talk went to the topic of potential adversaries, Karstone assure them that their opponents would only be mountain beasts and men rather than creatures from a child's nightmare. Alania was upset, but Henry wasn't expecting to have to slay a demon or dragon out here. Besides, he learned how to kill men long before he learned how to kill monsters.

Karstone brought up the issue of food. They would need to hunt and forage for supplies. Again Henry's thought returned to his army days. Fortunately he was indeed taught how to forage, but he was skeptical of these extreme hills. He'd probably need to wrestle a wolf every other day just for breakfast.

"Aye, I know a thing or two about hunting as well." He offered, before eyeing their surroundings suspiciously. "Can't be certain we're not being hunted too, though." He was referring to mountain cats or wolves, or maybe even those barbarian clans, but who knew what else could be out here?

Sileo

Sileo raised an eyebrow as the Shrouded Elf was coldly executed by a crone, who was accompanied by a horde of hags and hagspawn. He cautiously picked up the empty pistol he had thrown at Kristov and holstered it at his side. He kept his sword out, however, in a casually defensive stance. If this entire horde rushed him, he probably wouldn't escape unscathed. Or with his trousers on.

They spoke of breeding with him, but to be honest, they wouldn't be his worst lay. He blinked off Thylis's brief attempt to entice him. Fortunately they seemed to have other orders from Soahc. "It was a pleasure to meet you, ladies." He winked before turning around and walking off to return to Soahc as well.

Although she had thought that the request from the spell would be enough to let them know that rejecting it was a possibility, Etheldredda's reaction to it told her just how much the hagspawn hated magic. There hadn't been anything invasive, hadn't been any effect apart from a simple request for access, and yet she had dropped the mace and gone into a fully protective stance. The musician immediately withdrew the request, since even though it would withdraw itself momentarily she did not know if they could afford to have Etheldreda incapacitated for that time.

It was a shock, truthfully. Her own experience with the dislike of magic was very limited, and she had never seen someone who had done more tan give an incredibly dirty look. Of course, she had attempted to refrain from using magic in the presence of the majority of people in the world, so she was even more limited in that regard. Etheldreda's reaction scared her, since it made her wonder if there was actually a way she could help the hagspawn. Most of her magic was focused around herself because she had been on her own for most of her time here, but many of the concepts were easy to extend to others if she needed to. Suspicion from outside sources was expected, but she had not expected to have such a reaction from one of her companions as well.

There was little time to dwell on this, however, for the spell revealed that the troll was not the only thing dangerous to them here. Brigands – a type of people that Siera had become quite familiar with over the years – had set up here as well, and they were preparing to attack. Fortunately, their more action-oriented ranged combatant had taken the initiative to fire at the treeline, and that scattered the brigands there, preventing them from firing more than a single volley. The arrows did not reach the back line, and so allowed her to retain energy instead of expending it on a barrier.

Still, she was aware of the fact that there were more, and that the situation was starting to look somewhat negative. Either of the enemies might be easy if it was just them, but putting them together made them many times more dangerous. They could not afford to leave the troll alone or it would hurt them badly, but that meant they were stuck letting the brigands move how they wished until they could accurately attack. It also meant she would almost certainly have to remain in a defensive stance unless they specifically gave her an opening, but that wasn't a problem. The problem was who to protect, since she knew she didn't have the energy to shield everyone for the duration of the battle.

That was when Rovaan started to act, and Siera's eyes went wide. Saying something was off about him would be an understatement, for the features that were sprouting were clearly demonic in nature. The angle that she was seeing him from didn't exactly give her the best indication of what he was, but it told her enough to make her wariness of him entirely warranted. He wouldn't be the only demon in the group, for she knew Kuro was part one as well, but at least he wasn't acting like...

Or maybe he was, since that was about the point where she realized Kuro was now radiating an aura that she very easily recalled from the fight in Copperdale. His personal aura still was still there and still dominant, but she could tell that he was drawing on something darker. It did not look as though Azul's essence was controlling him, but with demons it wasn't always that simple. They were masters at manipulation and subterfuge, and if the demon had managed to survive through Kuro then this might be a situation more dire than she had thought.

The sudden surge of demonic energy had momentarily halted her thought process, and it wasn't until she realized the wave was hurtling in their direction that she realized she needed to act. Etheldredda still looked to be recovering from the request of Siera's spell, but Judy and the Guildmaster had somehow gotten out of the path of the wave. That was good, though, since it meant less energy depletion for her. It might not be what she wanted, but Siera was going to attempt to protect the hagspawn whether she wanted it or not.

The notes seemed to lift lazily off the flute, drifting through the air around herself and Etheldredda. There was no intrusion on the mind, and as the wave drew closer a sky-blue dome formed around both of them. Everyone else seemed to be somewhat capable of taking care of themselves for the moment, so Siera saved her energy for when it would be necessary to protect them.

Unfortunately for her, she really didn't know what to think about the whole situation. The troll and brigands didn't frighten her even though they were the ones attempting to take her life, while their two companions that were exuding powerful demonic energy were the scarier part of what was going on even if they were trying to help her. Siera wasn't one to condemn people immediately, as had been proved by the fact that she had considered Kuro a companion even with him being demonic, and it was only because of the amount of energy that was being used that she was worried. There was power here, a lot of power, and that much power with demonic origin wasn't something she liked to see.

((What's going on for the time being?))

(( OK, I just quickly read through the past two pages. Angel depicts several different stories, and several more appear from other users sometimes with varying characters. I don’t think I’ll be able to remember all that detail. There is dialogue and some action, and the hags appear a few times. Honesty, I don’t know how you guys are able to keep in line with all that information. I will jump in with a less complex character of mine, who mysteriously appears somewhere in Ogre territory, to be described soon. ))

Name: Unknown, nicknamed Spirry
Age: At least 100,000 years old
Race: Demon
Gender: Male
Occupation: Torturer

Appearance: Resembling a bipedal dragon, Spirry is quite a frightening figure to behold, standing at nine feet tall, with a nine-foot reptilian tail, and a wingspan at over twenty feet. He has muscular limbs, is long-legged, slim-waisted, blue-eyed, and does not have scales or skin, meaning his flesh, nervous system, tendons, and muscles are always visible. He does not have cheeks or lips, so his teeth and gums are always visible. He also does not have eyelids, and is always watching at something as a result. His heart beats audibly.

Attire: None, he is usually bare.
Weapons: Claws, teeth, horns, tail, wings
Personality: Sadomasochistic, sociopathic

Short History: Formerly a nameless child slave, Spirry was a powerful sorcerer despite his young age, capable of pyromancy, shape-shifting, psychokinesis, telepathy, and necromancy. Despite being a kid, he developed an extreme sadomasochistic mentality, and in a fit of ecstasy, the child Spirry skinned himself, gnawing, clawing and biting off his own exterior, even peeling off his face, cheeks, eyelids and lips. He eventually died, however, his sorcery resurrected him. Shortly after, he surprised his masters with his new appearance, and then committed genocide of his entire species. Ever since, his sadomasochism plummets in a bottomless abyss, and his sick addiction is gradually becoming uncontrollable. As such, he frequently forgets about his own sorcery.

Other: Spirry is undead, trapped in the moment of his death: skinned and bleeding. As such, he is constantly bleeding everywhere; if he stands still, his blood pools beneath him. Oddly enough, he does not suffer from his extreme suffering. As such, he is virtually immune to pain due to the pleasure he gets from it. He also exhibits rapid fleshy regeneration, but, oddly enough, cannot regrow his own skin.
