Additional Content is information that provides extra (but optional) details about factions, species, and other features. Note that some features are hidden, to be revealed at a later time. Unknown features can only be revealed during role-playing.

Supernatural Powers are abilities or features that defy the laws of physics. They have always been around throughout history.

Dark Energy Metamorphosis
An unexplainable type of energy, the majority of energy in our universe is dark energy. It is capable of connecting to the consciousness of an individual, and if this occurs during foetal development, creates unexplainable mutations, senses, and thoughts, which connect to the laws of physics. The resulting paranormal metamorphosis enables anything from minor to major manipulations of the laws of physics. Thus, such people are called Dark Energy Metamorphosed, or simply Metamorphs for short.

Since such people are extremely rare, and since their genetic makeup is so valuable for scientific pursuits, they are worth a thousand times their weight in platinum. If using today’s cost of platinum per kilogram, which is about 29,000 USD, a Dark Energy Metamorphosed weighing two hundred pounds would be worth 261,000,000,000 USD. Additional hundreds of billions of dollars can be added depending on how powerful the Metamorph’s power is. Being worth hundreds of billions of dollars must be quite interesting.

Dark Energy Metamorphosed are too valuable to risk falling to criminal syndicates, terrorist organizations, or enemy nations, so the government has declared that all Dark Energy Metamorphosed as property of the state.

Governmental claim is that Dark Energy Metamorphosed are the result of dark energy science experiments, and since such scientific pursuits are funded by the government, anything resulting from it is considered government property.

Nevertheless, all attempts to clone Dark Energy Metamorphosed DNA have failed, as the power itself never transfers, but seems to stay stuck inside the original person. Not to mention that any other alien may also be a Metamorph, it is quite obvious that the government's claim to state property is total bogus.

Upon confirmation of Dark Energy Metamorphosis, Metamorphs are often under careful surveillance. Upon reaching adulthood, or if the Metamorph’s powers result in severe criminal activity or extreme damage to property or people, deliberate or not, the Metamorph is taken to a special containment facility for further study, nurturing, and surveillance. Parents are allowed to communicate with their Metamorph child at any time and in any way, unless the individual has criminal or legal issues.

Biotics refer to a kind of power as well as those who practise it, and are much more common than Metamorphs. Similarly to Dark Energy Metamorphosed, Biotics is the result of genetic modification from dark energy, but results in the manipulation of electromagnetism and gravity. It allows the Biotic to cast various kinds of powers, which are listed in the Mass Effect wiki. Biotics are especially valuable in military and industrial occupations.

Synthesis

Synthesis is a procedure of which someone is put in suspended animation while their brain is hooked up to a mainframe, synchronizing their thoughts and nervous system to whatever they are connected to. The deep sleep creates an intense lucid dreaming state, focusing the entirety of the brain's power into the synced medium, which can be anything computerized or cybernetic. Overexertion may cause damage to the nervous system and brain.

Upon completion of the task, the Dream Fade sequence is activated, which gradually awakens the person to avoid shock or panic. In some cases, the state of lucid dreaming continues, and the person cannot wake up for days or even weeks.

Character Types

Clones are lifeforms whose DNA has been replicated biochemically, until it can be used in protein production. It can then be artificially grown into whatever is intended. However, by law, all Clones must be born sterile, for population control. The fear of ‘’replacement by clones’’ is often dismissed as silly paranoia, seeing as Clones are still 100% human (or whatever species they are), just born artificially. Since Clones do not have biological mothers, they tend to lack empathy and emotion, but if they are raised by a motherly figure, they may develop some empathy and emotion. It is rarer for Clones to be Biotics or Dark Energy Metamorphosed than the natural born.

Soulmech
What is a soul? Consciousness? Memories? Life? Or something deeper? Whatever the soul is, it seems to be tied to electrical energy, which may be a contrast to dark energy. Scientists have discovered that, if the energy of a person’s brain is transferred into a robot, or some other medium, then so long as the device is capable of advanced functions, it becomes self-aware and retains all memories of one’s actual life.

It costs about a billion dollars to operate the machinery and energy to imbue a machine with a soul, so it is a rare occurrence. Robots empowered with souls are not considered human, or even living, so do not have rights, treated as property by their owners if they have any. Upon becoming a robot, confusion and fear last up to several days or even months.

Indeed, death need not be the end. If you were once alive, embrace a new life, as a lifeless machine. Robots empowered with a soul are referred to as Soulmechs. Although extremely rare, Soulmechs sometimes are also Metamorphs or Biotics, even if they were not so in their previous life.

Synthetics are highly advanced androids empowered with a soul. Since transferring costs up to a billion dollars or more, and creating the Synthetic suit can be equally as expensive, only the wealthy can afford to produce and empower Synthetics. Indeed, some make the investment simply to become reborn as a Synthetic after they die.

To maximise longevity, the Synthetic is made out of extremely durable plastics and ceramics, to minimize the need of softer material as much as possible, whereas synthetic tissue is made from ultra durable gel that can absorb even gunfire. The result is an entity that is very light, very fast, very strong, and very durable, which never needs to eat, drink or sleep, does not feel pain, and only needs electricity to survive. However, they can eat, drink and sleep if they want to. If they run out of electricity and deactivate, they can be recharged and brought back.

However, since Synthetics are considered androids and not human, they do not have rights, and are property of their owner if available. It is legal to install a Synthetic with hardware, software, or programming to allow the owner to control the Synthetic as one would use a controller for a video game, regardless of whatever discomfort the Synthetic feels in whatever it is controlled to do. As such, some Synthetics are created by investors to be tools, toys, pets, sex slaves, prostitutes, something to show-off, or to serve as a target for sadism.

Although extremely rare, some Synthetics have exhibited the capabilities of Biotics or even Dark Energy Metamorphosis, even though they did not possess such abilities in their previous life. This allowed very few Synthetics to break free from their programming, becoming rogues, sometimes right after killing their owners.

Biofreaks are individuals genetically modified from different species. For example, a Biofreak can be third-human, third-Turian, and third-cyborg. The creation of Biofreaks is illegal. If it occurs, so long as sentiency is present in the Biofreak, the being would still have human rights, and the law would just have to put up with it.

'Biofreak' is also an insult for Metamorphs, Biotics, non-humans, mutants, and anything that looks inhuman.

Alien Species

Quarians are a smart species, remarkable for slightly glowing eyes without irises or pupils, bluish skin, having only three but thick fingers, two toes, and shins bowed backwards. They are good engineers and electricians. Naturally having a weak immune system, they must wear suits with filters and visors whenever traveling outside, or any area that is unhealthy. Many have cybernetic implants.

Currently, the Quarians are involved in a civil war against the Geth in their homeworld. Geth are mechanical-looking androids they had created. This caused many Quarians to immigrate abroad or live in Orbiters. They tend to have a negative reputation, as Quarians are prone to taking things that don’t belong to them, especially if it can be used for robotics, cybernetics, or machinery. They are very conservative, and strongly focused on recycling, reusing, and scavenging.
In this role-play, Quarians are amino acid-based.

Asari are an all-female humanoid species, with bluish to greenish skin. They have short, tough appendages that grow backwards on their heads, facial markings, and all Asari know at least basic Biotics. Asari are remarkable for limited warfare.
In this role-play, Asari lifespan is about tripled compared to human.

Twi’Leks are a race of humanoids with lekku (singular lek), which are long, large, tapering appendages on their heads. Lekku are often just called head tails. Similarly to Asari, Twi’Leks do not have bodily hair or cranial hair, and have variously colored skin, pupils, and facial markings.

Turians are a disciplined, hierarchical, militaristic species, resembling humanoid featherless dinosaurs. They naturally have plated skin, making them tough, but are less agile than humans, and have difficulty swimming.
In this role-play, Turians are amino acid-based.

Female Turians,

Drells are a humanoid reptilian species, and are devout, loyal, appreciative, and daring. Their harsh, arid homeland means that they are quite comfortable in deserts and hot climates. As such, most Drell who came to Earth live in warmer regions.

Salarians are an amphibious-looking, matriarchal species, who often possess excellent memory, making them good businessmen, programmers, teachers, and scouts. They have various skin colors, males and females are of comparable size, and they tend to talk and act quickly and immediately.
In this role-play, Salarians reproduce at a rate similar to humans, and have moderately shorter lives.

Krogans are a large, tall, physically powerful species, fast and hotheaded. They possess plated skin and doubled major organs, making them hard to kill. Krogans are often embroiled in civil wars and tribal warfare.
In this role-play, Krogans reproduce at a rate similar to humans, and can live up to three times as long.
Female Krogans are the ones wearing robe-like suits with short veils.

Factions and Storylines

The Insurgency is a violent movement of dangerous rebels, willing to die for their cause. They are a motley assortment of volunteering nationalists, patriots, former soldiers, defectors, deserters, freedom fighters, maniacs, terrorists, and anything and everything between and beyond. They wish to overthrow the greedy, oppressive government. Insurgents sometimes manage to steal military vehicles, or acquire military vehicles from deserters or defectors who join their cause.

Obviously, this storyline is about the rebellion. You may have already joined the Insurgency, maybe you plan on joining, or perhaps you helped found it and are looking for recruits? Whatever you choose to be, much action and adventure await you.

Insurgents range from armed patriots to former soldiers, so their equipment ranges from makeshift to modern, old-fashioned to handmade, and anything and everything between and beyond.
