Ryder

Having dealt with whatever he had to do in the train, Ryder reached his destination. Using Biotics to disembark the train, he landed somewhere nearby, requesting hacking to derail the train.

“That’s a negative, Operative Ryder, that train has nothing to do with your objective. I will be initiating emergency brakes for the train. Michael out.” a man’s voice replied via radio.

Up ahead was the underground train station, rather cheap but concrete. Stacked all over the place were various crates, containers, tools, and whatever storage. A dozen or two personnel kept their heads low behind cover, with several ADVs having severe problems with their helmets. The ADVs’ helmets made loud static noises and caused sparks and zaps. A few managed to take their helmets off, but their suits were still affected by the feedback surge. Amongst them were about a dozen Quarians, using omni-tools to try and fix whatever problem the human guards had.

“Hold still, the feedback surge should dissipate soon.” a Quarian man remarked, omnti-tool working, but it did little.

“Either that, or those robots come here and shoot us dead!” a worker whined, and then they all overheard the train arriving, emergency brakes activating and screeching to life.

“Oh shit, run!” a Quarian woman shouted, and everyone darted off to the sides and jumped as the train smashed into the station nonetheless. The train slowed down just enough to prevent it from smashing clean into the infrastructure and probably causing a fire and cave-in, but the pile-up of wagons still formed.

Amidst the chaos, Ryder easily entered the facility, wreckage blazing behind him. He overheard the firefight echoing from within, and the water sprinklers activated throughout the train station. No matter. Ryder used his Nav Point to navigate through the vicinity, seeing occasional Geth Troopers here and there, but he dealt with them however he did.

There were also occasional ADVs, debilitated by the feedback surge, and would make easy targets if Ryder cared to take them.

Later, he eventually found a ventilation shaft that lead deeper into the facility. Ripping the ventilation cap off, Ryder entered the venting...

Those who were inside the ventilation shafts explored them. Unsurprisingly, the darkness, multiple levels, and intertwining sections made the venting difficult to traverse. To make things worse, the vents sometimes broke under foot, causing those at higher levels to fall deeper into the facility...

X7A and Ryder followed their Nav Points, which led them towards the mainframe, but they were at different sections of the venting. They heard others crawling overhead every now and then, fotne accompanied by whirring and beeping noises, but sometimes not. They also overheard breaking and crashing noises, even smelled a little smoke.

Suddenly, the venting under your feet shake and break apart. A rocket has blasted the ventilation shafts open, causing you to fall. Down below is a large chamber, absolutely packed with massive computers, creating zigzagging passageways in-between themselves...

These passageways betwixt the maze of massive computers are perhaps twelve feet wide, but sometimes narrow here and there. The only lighting of the chamber comes from the computers. Ruder may have used his Biotics to float above the supercomputers, but X7A, Annie, and possibly London and Noah, probably thudded on the floor somewhere here and there. A few Geth Hoppers fell as well, but upno landing, they immediately jumped away.

“X7A, Ryder, this is Michael.” Michael’s voice sounded again. “We have detected a very unusual signal coming from your area, something is piggybacking our communications. It must be either the mainframe or this global AI, but I don’t think it is the Geth bandwidth. I can’t connect to the mainframe, you must find the main terminal. Double-time, operatives, this signal is spreading through Governmental databases!”

“Intruders alert, engaging targets.” a LOKI Mech spoke casually and softly, it and four other LOKIs walking towards Ryder’s direction and opening fire at him and the Geth Hoppers. The Geth Hoppers, unsurprisingly, hopped about, sometimes blasting beams out their eyes.

“DEFENCE SYSTEMS ACTIVE.” a YMIR Mech bellowed, footfall loud and clanking, but it would take some time to appear. Five other LOKI Mechs were on their way as well...

Annie was happy that she was able get into the vent without a problem. When she got to ventilation grills here and there, showing her what was going on. She saw strange robots shooting at people who was screaming and running away. She wanted to cry but she knows she has to quiet so she won’t be caught. She kept moving so if the robots looked up they won’t see her. She heard strange noises in the vents. She ignore them and kept moving.

As Annie was crawling threw the vent scared out off her wit. Then all of sudden the vent shaken under her and broke by a rocket. She screamed with fear as she fell. She landed hard on the ground. She winced in pain and in shock what just happened.

Cloaking systems were nothing new, but the knowledge that they existed did prompt X7A to quickly reconfigure her scanning parameters. It was a momentary action, and one that did not interfere with her projected movement. Few shots flew in her direction, and the gravitational fields around her did everything necessary to redirect the fire and keep her uninjured.

Drawing very little attention to herself, X7A remained mostly innocuous for the duration of her run, and when it came to the final hurdle before the vents, the only shots she fired were to open it. Keeping her distance up until that point, she didn’t run at the vent, but rather took a look at it, ducked back into cover, and then opened a rift in front of her that led directly into the vent. It wasn’t entirely unnoticed; the geth seemed to detect it and opened fire at the vent, but X7A was gone, along with the rift, before they had enough time to see what was actually there.

The knowledge that she had another operative arriving was nothing but positive, even though her database showed that this particular one was a bit on the unstable side. She didn’t care what the temperment of a partner operative was as long as they did the job correctly. Elite operatives weren’t usually unstable enough that they were unreliable.

Despite her safe entrance into the vents, this was an option that she had been hoping to avoid. Not only was she stuck inside the enclosed space, she could not see out of it, and there were clearly others in the vents. It was not a concern, at least not yet, but even with her reflexes and reaction timing it would be difficult to do anything should a large number of robotic enemies decided to remove her. Only so much could be stopped from her position.

Fortunately, they did not decide to do that, but the tactical weaknesses of vents was clearly illustrated when the entire system collapsed from a single well-placed rocket. As soon as she felt them falling, X7A did two things: one, created an outgoing gravitational wave that blasted all of the venting around her outwards and away, and two, immediately negated the effects of the Earth’s gravity on herself, preventing herself from falling and putting herself in a simulated zero-gravity situation.

From her vantage point up by where the vents used to be, X7A quickly surveyed the chamber. The mechs were incoming, and her scanners detected multiple other lifeforms that had come from the vents as well. One of them matched the biosignature of the operative Ryder, and another seemed to match that of the girl she had seen in the cells before. Both did not seem to be hostile towards her, and the girl seemed to be out of place here entirely. Therefore, neither was important at the moment, and she could move on with the minimal surveillance on them.

The mechs did not seem to have noticed her yet, and that gave X7A the opportunity to use her ability to float to move over the tops of the computer maze and directly towards where the mainframe seemed to be located. Her movement was entirely silent, using gravitational attraction to move herself through the air. She did what she could to keep to the shadowy areas, and remained as much out of range of the mechs as possible. If they had their targeting sensors locked on other individuals, then she was not going to give them another target to shoot at.

Ryder

As the train shifted away, his short moment of glee was cut short by a small announcement.

“That’s a negative, Operative Ryder, that train has nothing to do with your objective. I will be initiating emergency brakes for the train. Michael out.” a man’s voice replied via radio.

Ryder’s confusion was quickly simmered into a cool rage as the squeal of breaks revibrated through the tunnel. “ What did you say? ” He said quietly. “ WHAT DID YOU SAY, DAMN IT?! I DECIDE WHAT MY OBJECTIVE HERE IS, NOT YOU, YOU PAPER PUSHING DOLT. IF YOU DON’T LIKE THAT, YOU CAN KISS MY ASS!

Ryder gave a quick series of angered puffs, which were interrupted by a loud series of bangs ahead. Taking a few seconds to compose himself, he looked upon the wreckage ahead. Perhaps it wasn’t as spectacular a disaster as he might have liked, but as he watched a Quarrian woman run around, he realised that didn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing.

Tch. You’re lucky I’m in a forgiving mood. ” Ryder said smugly. “ Perhaps I should look at this optimistically. Eradicating vermin takes a… personal touch after all, ” he continued, turning off his communicator as he drew a rather vicious grin.

------ Interlude – insert pictures of kittens here ------

Command, area secure. I’m in the vents. I need a Nav point confirmation, ” Ryder huffed into his mic. His patience was a little short right now. He knew he ought to be used to the incompetence of others, but wiping out such inferior beings beings was just infuriating. Had they not trained a day in their lives? Ahh, the bothers of being perfection incarnate, right?

In Ryder’s flight of fancy, he almost missed the whooshing sound of a rocket. As it tore into the ventilation, he felt the floor jerk out from beneath him, before jerking back. His guts seemed to lift as room light briefly illuminated the tumbling shaft.

The section of ventalation landed with an ear splitting clatter, with Ryder managing to keep his footing. Leaning against the side of the wall, he cursed. Tsk, who the hell was responsible for this? Or maybe it was a situation born of shoddy, inferior construction. Either way pissed him off – couldn’t the Neanderthals do anything right?

Clambering out of the segment, he looked up to find himself in a maze of computers. He judged the distance; he could probably jump to the top using biotics. This was all the time afforded to him before a mass accelerated round ricocheted off of the nearby wall. Turning towards the source of the disturbance, he counted several dumpster cans with peashooters shooting at each other. Ahh, these things just couldn’t be helped.

Bathed in a blue tint, Ryder charged the first Loki Mech. Accelerating at break neck speeds, Ryder felt his feet hit the floor as his biotic energy surged, rebounding off of the first mech. The Mechs turned to see their peer fly off, replaced by Ryder and his sinister glare. If robots could know fear, perhaps they might have quaked. Bah, this is why fighting droids is so boring.

As the Mech’s turned, Ryder flicked his arm. A brief but strong biotic force pushed the smaller mechs through the air – though the YMIR remained unaffected by the poultry effort as it’s barrel swivelled towards Ryder. Ryder’s first instinct was to try to bat the barrel away, though even with the assistance of biotics, such a move would be risky. Instead, he would lower his arms, using biotics to propel himself into the air, looping his legs around the creature’s headpiece.

Defend against this ” He smirked, launching several biotic assisted punches between the mech’s two visual cortex’s. Hopefully such devastating blows would smash the central processors in the process.

Propelling himself off the YMIR, he allowed himself to take in the moment. The Loki Mechs rolled pathetically on the ground in an attempt to regain their footing. Taking advantage of their vulnerability, Ryder drove his foot home into the cognitive processes of one of the LOKI mech’s. Reaching down for the mech’s dropped automatic pistol, he shot several bursts at the Geth in the room.

The robot's retaliation was easily avoided as Noah dipped his head to the side, the butt of the rifle narrowly missing his right ear. His hand did hurt, but like hell Noah would let something as small as pain stop him!

" That all you got?! " He demanded from the Geth, performing an uppercut that slammed into the robot's 'chin' and knocked it off balance a second time. Gritting his teeth against the throbbing pain in his knuckles he swung a right hook into the side of the Geth's head while it was still off-balance - actually succeeding in knocking it off its feet with the follow-up. His knuckles felt wet. Probably tore his skin with that last blow on the angled metal face of the robot.

It started to adjust its rifle to aim at Noah but the youth wasn't having any of that, stepping up and stomping down right on the fallen Geth's cracked eyepiece. It gave way until the harsh curb-stomp, shattering and, after a moment's fizzling and twitching, the machine seemed to deactivate - rifle dropping to the ground.

Standing over his fallen foe the young hero lifted his head high and looked over his surroundings for the second time since exiting his cell, finding the firefight was in full swing now with some kind of big mech bursting through a wall and opening fire on the robots. Just what the hell was this place and why were these guys shooting each other?!

Before he could decide on his next action Noah realized that his cell wasn't the only one, up and down the length of the room he could see similar doors with accompanying windows - and through some of them there were people! They were in these... What were they called? Strait-jackets? Plus these weird helmets. It didn't look to him like they were willing guests! The nerve of these bastards, who else had they kidnapped?!

His body was moving to the nearest cell door before his brain even caught up to his actions. It was in his bones, he knew exactly what needed to be done - he would save these people or die trying!
