Ok, coming from a TRUE OSRS player, i am not 100% against updates for 2007. But the kind of updates that are put into the game will make or brake it for the true old school players. Here is my opinion on the kind of updates that should be aloud into OSRS. For one
NO NEW WEAPONS OR ARMOR SHOULD EVER BE BROUGHT IN TO THE GAME
, Dragon claws, and God Swords was the beginning of the end in my opinion. I will however say that new boss monsters or maybe somehow new mini games wouldn't hurt the game to much as long as the items that are acquired are not tradeable, and wouldn't effect pvp to a sense that GWD did. I do agree with updates such as smithing smith all, rune crafting updates, oldschool guard updates, and anything that makes doing repetitive tasks easier should be looked at and voted for by the community. The only reason i even came back to this game was because i saw the OSRS, this was the time when runescape seemed perfect in my eyes, please dont ruin it for players like myself

I definitely support the idea of updates to OSRS, as long as all of them get voted in on the same manner as the current content polls. I would love to see the return of old-school stuff that got added shortly after the time from which this game was pulled (While Guthix Sleeps, Stealing Creation, and maybe the GE although I know I'm in the minority in that regard...) as well as possible new updates like the coming minigame.
To all the people saying "Keep old school old" and saying we should have NO updates, remember that this is just opening up the OPTION of updates. You can still vote "no" in every single poll if you're that adamant about it... or you might find yourself gaining a more open mind and voting for some updates you might like.
You're 'right' and everybody else... needs an open mind?
Yeah, that encourages me to want the main game's updates.... NOT.

I've always been a firm believer that games need updates to survive, some would say otherwise, but when you think about it... It makes sense.
Take Console games for instance. Often you'll hear 'gamers talking among each other about this game or another. It's great for a time, but after a while people will start to move on and begin to loose interest- until something new (say a map) is released and everyone's happy until it happens again. I'm not saying the same will happen with OSR, but I can say it's a possibility. Obviously people have different opinions on the matter and I respect that everyone values the Old School integrity, but you have to look at both sides.
I enjoy the game as it is, I enjoy the graphics, community, content and the general game, but that's me and I know I'll be playing OSR for many years regardless if it's updated or not. Equally I really enjoy new content and wondering what will happen next. I say release updates as long as they're fitting with the old theme and don't damage the game.
For the good of the community and game (in my opinion) OSR needs updates, think about what will be lost if there isn't. Use RuneScape Classic as an example if you like, there's only a small number of dedicated Veterans on there and slowly those numbers have declined over the years.
All I can say is to look at it from both sides, this is the future of OSR and it needs to be taken seriously.
If the G.E. comes out it will ruin free trade, I LOVE GOING TO VARROCK (wish we could go back to falador...) AND TRADEING PEOPLE, that gives runescape its originality, no other game has free trade like runescape does. I for one
will quit
if the G.E. ever gets implemented into OSRS.

Please take more time to read posts next time. He never said he was "right", he just said to keep an open mind to updates. 07scape WILL become less popular without new content, and the less popular it gets, Jagex will have to start charging for it. People are leaving because they are bored. As for adding content from the main game, we can always add new content; please consider this and don't flame other's ideas.

@Tyria Mine: I don't mean that people opposing updates are wrong, but I don't see what's wrong about voting on them on a case-by-case basis. Everyone still gets their say that way. I'm just saying that saying no to the
possibility of voting on new updates
seems rather stubborn and close minded to me.
You can still vote no. That's the whole point. Everyone gets their say in the updates. Saying no to even polling for individual updates is like saying you want to abolish elections and enter into a dictatorship because you like your country's current leader.

I didn't flame anybody's idea and he didn't say ''keep an open mind''.
It isn't '07scape' it's OLD SCHOOL and there will always be people who want to play OLD SCHOOL... BECAUSE it's Old School.
NEW content can't be added, while so many players are so determined that OS needs the main game's updates.

I think that most are over that nostalgia stage now, updates are most certainly needed to keep that player count up. Also in big favor of unique content dedicated to old school.
The majority of the people that play oldschool just need that reassurance that updates won't spiral out of control and this devblog certainly delivers that!
No, you are not a true OSRS player, GWD, and G.E. are 2 major reasons why alot of people quit the game, if you are some one who is wants things like this back into the game, you are the reason people like me will quit this game in the coming months if any of these get put into OSRS. I will agree, Quests can be implemented no problem, but graphics? No way, OSRS is OSRS because of the way the game was back then. G.E will ruin free trade, and GWD will ruin PVP.
