Original message details are unavailable.
I'd like to see what happened if OSRS would do the smart think and poll Sailing, finally. I don't know why it's always going to be a 'no'!

This.

Sailing is loads better than the options we've had for new skills.

I didn't like the original draft for artisan... However this revisited draft is something that could really be built off.

However, I see quite a few people saying that a new skill isn't needed and that it doesn't fit old school... And I'm just wondering...

1. Why don't we need a new skill?

2. What is "old school" and why is a new skill not fit "old school"?

Just wanted to add to my feedback on page 32, 33, and 35.

Perhaps Expertise should be a subcategory of Artisan. With Expertise you can learn to combine 2 or more skills to create something new. I heard quite a few people mention 'bow-swords.' perhaps scythe, and crystal blades could be added as well.

Artisan + Smithing + Fleching
bow-swords .
-Slower fire rate but occasionally you will combo with bow an arrow and a melee slash.

-Bow sword - 10 Artisan, 15 Smithing, 15 fletching
-Iron Bow sword - 20 Artisan, 25 Smithing, 25 fletching
-Steel Bow sword - 30 Artisan, 35 Smithing, 35 fletching
-Mith Bow sword - 40 Artisan, 45 Smithing, 45 fletching
-Adam Bow sword - 50 Artisan, 55 Smithing, 55 fletching
-Rune Bow sword - 60 Artisan, 65 Smithing, 65 fletching
-Dragon Bow sword - 70 Artisan, 75 Smithing, 75 fletching

Artisan + Smithing + Crafting
Crystal Blades.
Very small, fast, and powerful blades... but they shatter after x amount of use.

- Sapphire Blade - 36 Artisan, 43 Smithing, 43 Crafting
- Emerald Blade - 52 Artisan, 63 Smithing, 63 Crafting
- Ruby Blade - 62 Artisan, 73 Smithing, 73 Crafting
- Diamond Blade - 72 Artisan, 83 Smithing, 83 Crafting
- Dragonstone Blade - 82 Artisan, 93 Smithing, 93 Crafting

Artisan + Smithing
scythe's
Learn-able through task points, strong slash weapons.

-scythe - 10 Artisan, 15 Smithing, x amount of points
-Iron scythe - 28 Artisan, 25 Smithing, x amount of points
-Steel scythe - 38 Artisan, 35 Smithing, x amount of points
-Mith scythe - 52 Artisan, 45 Smithing, x amount of points
-Adam scythe - 67 Artisan, 65 Smithing, x amount of points
-Rune scythe - 79 Artisan, 75 Smithing, x amount of points
-Dragon scythe - 88 Artisan, 85 Smithing, x amount of points

Let Dragon Bow-Sword's, Dragonstone Blades, and Dragon Scythe indigent materials be rare drops from high level dragons and bosses.

I was just thinking additionally, expertise could be used with a lot of skills..

Artisan + Fishing + Construction
- Voyaging (See page 32,33,35)

Artisan + Mining + Construction
- Archaeology/Astronomy

Artisan + Farming + Hunter
- Ranching/Herding

Artisan + Herblore + Cooking
- Brewing

Artisan + Agility + Thieving
- Not sure what would go here, but seems like a good combo, maybe someone else would.

Not sure what the other skills could combine as but you catch the drift, thats the end of my feedback lol

Artisan is a great name for a skill, but the concept is subpar compared to other, original Runescape skills.

One reason for this is that it neglects high level/maxed players completely. You tell people that they can block certain skills from being assigned, since they may already have level 99 in that skill. What about those having 99 in all of those skills?

Also, you must take into consideration that people who have higher levels in a skill will level Artisan faster, because the way experience works. Since you get experience based on how much experience you gain in the skill assigned, being higher level you get higher experience, meaning your early Artisan experience will skyrocket. Compare this to how prayer works, where you have the best xp/hour available from level 1. You can get a high level in no time, making it pointless to try for the hiscore if you're not maxed.

I would prefer to see a way to only extract items from skilling tasks, and then get experience from processing those items. That way Artisan will become a unique skill in its own right.

Also, I've seen people who are not very happy about their skills being devalued, as the irony of a master cook not being able to make superior food, or a master fletcher not being able to make the superior kinds of arrows, sounds indeed a bit ridiculous.

Before polling this, note that it may not pass the way it is now.

I read through about the first 8 or 10 pages here so not sure if these ideas were brought up or not, but here they are anyways.

My thoughts on the artisan skill is that, to me, it sounds more or less like a minigame. It also reminds me of the daily challenges that are in rs3. So what I would like to see maybe is the comeback of the brawler gloves somehow incorporated with the artisan skill. As many of those who remember the days of pvp when it first was brought to the game as I remember, you had the chance of getting a pair of brawler gloves when you had victoriously brought your opponent to their death. With the brawlers you were able to train skills with a rewarding xp bonus.

My only criticism other than the artisan skill seems to me as more of a minigame, is that the skill needs to have something, some kind of concept that makes it standout and differ from any skill that we currently have. I understand the idea of having a skill help out another skill but really to me, it needs its own meaning and purpose. As I see it where it stands right now is having too much purpose for too many different types of skilling. The slayer skill can get away with it because it's combat based. Combat stands alone as being its own significance. If you could somehow make/use the artisan skill it help incorporate many 3-5 different skills rather than all of the non combat skills than that would be more ideal to me rather than trying to squeeze every skill outside of combat into another skill. If you have to, not saying that this should pass on as an idea or anything, but make more than one "new" skill that allows a greater flexibility on which skill(s) will be apart of the artisan skill and which skill(s) will not be.

I tip my hat to the OSRS mods and their valiant effort to make the old school community the best that it can possibly be. I look forward to seeing where we are 3 months, 6 months and even a year from. Look at how much was accomplished in the first year.
