Here's my initial opinion -
I do like a lot of the new updates that have been coming to the game (I don't just mean this raids update for the future - I mean several past updates as well). However, I'm not too keen on the idea of bringing more and more BIS items to the game, as it brings back my memories of 2011-2012 before EOC.
For example, when dungeoneering came out and people started to realize just how powerful the chaotic rapier was, close to nobody had a whip anymore as it wasn't a viable alternative to the rapier. While the rapier did degrade, it was still a minuscule cost that didn't hinder the use.
To these BIS updates, I feel that bringing several new weapons and armour and prayers to the game will make certain items and aspects of the game obsolete. Let alone the fact that the elder wand would make ancient staves pretty much useless, some of the prayers seem too powerful as well. The divine grace prayer would make stamina potions no longer a necessity for many accounts, as if you could just run from altar to altar you'd never run out of energy.
Also, not trying to add insult to injury here, but pretty much 90% of this update seems copied literally verbatim from dungeoneering during pre-eoc. In that respect, I don't feel like this update would be unique in the sense that it's fresh and "old-school."
Cool idea, and although I'm an ironman and I am not necessarily required to entertain the new updates due to not having access to the grand exchange (for the ability to sell whatever rewards I obtain for profit), I will likely be voting no to this update since I truly don't think it's necessary. Again not that I dislike the idea I just don't think it's necessary at this time.
Closing remark - my all-time favorite old school update was Zulrah. I think that Zulrah provided a challenge as well as significant rewards, while still making lower-tier weaponry and items viable for those who can't successfully kill the boss nor afford the rewards.
