I`m still undecided whether or not I like the idea of sailing so far.
No...it`s not that I am completly against this idea, it`s just that certain things don`t sound right to me.
As some people mentioned before, it sounds a bit like farming: you start the build, do something else in the mean time and then return to collect your exp.
However, this isn`t really my main concern - I like the farming skill, if it bears a few similarities then this is okay to me. Just as long it`s not TOO similar.
A much bigger problem I have is that you don`t build the ship yourself but let your workers do it for you.
I don`t think you should gain any exp. from building in that case - after all, what did you (your character) do? He/She just tells some NPC workers to build it for you. So why should YOU gain exp.? No, I think you should build the ships yourself...nothing speaks against workers HELPING you every now and then, but your character should do the main part of building.
Also, the building part should rather give exp. in construction - so far you did*`t sail anywhere, you just build a ship.
The biggest problem however, is the fact that it seems more like a minigame (at least the building part) and a minigame should not be made into a skill (while I like Player owned Ports in RS3, I would probably hate it, if it would be a skill instead of a minigame)
If you really make this minigame-like and call it a skill, then it will be much like dungeoneering in my eyes. And I hate dungeoneering because of that fact..again, I probably would like Dung. if it were a minigame, but it just doesn`t qualify as a skill.
So please, don`t turn this into a 2007-Dungeoneering clone! Please!
Now for the the actual sailing part...the idea of exploring new areas and islands by sailing your ship. This DOES sound great. As long you can actually access the islands with your character (and not just interact with them indirectly like in player owned ports)
