We can have those things without a joke skill, the Osrs Team just know they have to dangle massive carrots on sticks to get the community to vote for this travesty.
The community is hard when it comes to convincing look at how they act over a new skill? look how they find faults to turn people agenst it, I doubt it'll get 75% votes yes but I do hope Players start opening their eyes we need a new skill 3 years feb and no skills been added.. PvM players get their bosses however? seems unfair to me.
This skill isn't "needed" to be trained by those who are worried about it being released.. theres no requirements saying your need it.. the skills just to stop mass of players in these new area's which is a very good idea!
even before 2007 Slayer, Construction, Farming and more got released these skills were known to be bad by the community and now there atleast some of the best skills in the game. In my opinion if Jagex want new skills I think it shouldn't be a poll they should add it behind our backs due to saving the game the community would cry for an hour then relise the updates going to be good for the game and keep the game fun and new.
so however you look at this.. it's not blackmail Jagex are trying to save Old School before it becomes "the same thing" over and over so players get bored.

Sailing skill would probably turn out bad. However, in the post Ronan mentions they will be getting constant feedback, and constantly tweaking things, in approval of the community. This should turn out very good.
If anyone has played Legend of Zelda (Wind Waker), the concept of a big open sea with big continents, and lots of islands does work very well. This is a proven concept - the game sold millions of copies and fans loved this. Yes I know this is runescape, but still, the game mechanic of sailing and exploring a vast ocean is a proven tried and tested game mechanic.
Mod Mat K seems to have big plans for the OldSchool Service. Look at all the new staff that have been hired, this Huge expansion was only possible, because Mat K was brave enough to push for bonds, creating huge income streams for OldSchool. (granted most of it is going to RS3, but still, some is flowing into OldSchool and growing the team and service).
I am excited about this new skill. Scared at first, but I know it will turn out good because they are going to listen to constant feedback and change things with the development of this.
