Eh at least it's not as bad as I was expecting it to be, this is definitely an improvement but at least we're a step closer to full F2P.
Thanks for all the hard work guys.

L0L the trial went better than expected and we still don't get a permanent f2p. what I really don't get is how you think existing members will cancel to become just f2p.
you don't leave a £7.99 all you can eat indian buffet after reading the menu to make a free sandwich back at home. the message behind that example is once you've tasted p2p and you're exploring all the new things you're hooked. players will have started training members skills, stacking up members items in their bank and generally enjoying the plethora of extra things members benefits bring so they wont want to lose it all or render it useless.
also its 5 quid a month, its hardly a big decision to decide to stay p2p or go f2p. personally I would obviously keep my main account and just make a f2p pker cos I enjoy that more than p2p pking thus im contributing a continued members subscription and just creating another account for f2p. even if I got hooked on the pking I would never cancel my main purely because of the reason mentioned earlier and having it open with members means I can go back whenever I feel like it, and this is what I think most people would do.

Some people only play for the F2P aspect of the game (more so F2P clanners)

People WILL cancel their membership for F2P, the clan world alone would probably be a good 100-200 people which I admit isn't really much but I'm sure there are other people too.

I don't see how they can say they are really happy with the results, then post graphs showing that most people subscribed before their trial was up. What this tells me is that people want to subscribe because they like the game, not that they HAVE to otherwise they would have waited until the last day to make the most out of their free trial. So should the game get perm F2P, I believe we would see similar (if not an increase) of players subscribing.

What I don't get is why was the main game able to have full F2P but we cannot? I get that the main game has microtransactions but jagex were happy enough with the money being made for years off subscriptions alone.. Adding onto this, we have 5 staff compared to the several hundred RS3 has. I'm pretty sure the amount of people that would come back to the game and possibly subscribe, aswell as the money they save from only giving us 5 staff rather than the hundreds RS3 has would more than enough make up for the loss in memberships... It just really comes down to greed and riding OSRS for all it's worth which sucks but it should come as no surprise any more.

This thread is full of so much 'I know better than Jagex how to keep Runescape popular, even though Jagex is an actual business with professionals who have been employed for just this kind of decision and have been making these kind of decisions for years'.

Their decisions may not always be the most popular with the playerbase, but I guarantee you that they're the most profitable - hence why Jagex profits keep rising every year. What good is a popular game if everyone is F2P and not making Jagex any money? 'Oh but some of them will subscribe eventually' evidently not enough for it to be worthwhile, and as Jagex have proven, most accounts that become subscribers do so in the first 5 or 6 days of playing.

What makes you think a business going solely for profits is doing the best? All business have to balance revenue with their expenses and investments. OSRS F2P should be viewed as an investment however based on Mat Ks data it appeared to actually be positive. If this is the case then there are only two logical outcomes.

1. Jagex upper management is wholly incompetent. I don't necessarily think this is all that far fetched. I mean they killed off 3/5 of their player base from 2007-2013. And it has taken them forever to admit their mistake. Hence OSRS and Legacy.

2. Jagex uppermanagement is still refusing to fully admit their mistake and they are choosing to back RS3 versus OSRS even if OSRS is the way of the future. They are too proud and too afraid to admit they screwed up. Now that they are so vested in RS3 they have to back RS3 until they go out of business.

So basically it's all well and done and you're still not gonna implement F2P as many want it.

Money hungry snakes.

I realize you're probably trolling, but you do realize Jagex is a company, right? They aren't hosting this game just for fun, like your friend would host a party.

Increasing short term revenue isn't the only function of a business also.
