Yes I use bonds, so far have bought extra bank space, keepsake keys, legendary pets, membership a few times to prevent a "lapse". Never bought any TH keys. Bought Runepass as that was more inline with SGS even though it did provide lamps, XP, silverhawk feathers. Though that was a controlled amount not open ended like TH.

Bonds have also had a major impact against gold farming bots in RS3. I have also only acquired by bonds via gold earned ingame. I could easily afford to buy 20 of them if I wanted to, but I rather build up my character via in-game wealth. It is a player preference. I don't condemn anyone for purchasing bonds with IRL money as that is the only way they end up on the GE to begin with.
Jagex 2019 New Year Resolution... MTX our customers until RS3 SERVER SHUTDOWN PARTY!
The RS3 Community is treated like :@ RUBBISH :@ due to constant TH promotions.

Don't buy keys on Treasure Hunter, if you do Jagex will only make more TH promotions :(

Ok Barnabis, here is where your stupidity really shines.

Jagex is not letting all the official forums die. As individual Jmods have explained in several occasions they prefer to use other sites because of their own personal preferences and they can post there but not the RSOF after work. A Jmod also only posted on condensing the OSRS forums, no official words on the RS3 forums.

If you like OSRS and its "community", well, perhaps the one that you like so much on Tutorial Island, you may want to spend more constructive time on the OSRS forums as I suggested so they don't die. Hey, you can even make your opinions count more because content is designed by voting in OSRS.

No matter how you tried to define your own words or terms, you still pay Jagex to play BOTH RS3 or OSRS. It is always your choice, and in fact, you get more bang for the buck if you play both too.

Bonds can be used to get TH keys too. Even if you don't do that, other players can. It is your choice but that's their money they spend on TH. If they spend bonds on TH keys instead of gp, they gain TH items like xp, cosmetics, resources, etc instead of gp. But so what? They pay, they say. You can cry pay to win or you can say pay to win by getting instant gp is fine but pay to win by getting instant xp or items is not, too bad it is just your own opinion, not the opinions of the ones who paid Jagex 26% of their 2017 gross revenue through TH and not the ones who paid Jagex >20% of their 2017 gross revenue through Bonds. :D :D :D

You pay, you say. They pay, they say. Sorry if somebody say louder than you. :D :D :D

I look at it this way:

On the one hand, there are people who look at this through a gamer ethos viewpoint, where pay to win is a big no-no.

On the other hand, paying for cosmetics only, because their value is limited, has a very limited revenue-generating potential. Offering real in-game value brings in the money.

Since games are played by gamers, it's therefore a trade-off between bringing in more money and alienating the core constituency that pays basic membership fees... as long as it enjoys the game.

Can one bring in more money and still keep everone happy?

Well, bringing in new members is the classic win-win. But that is not under Jagex' control. They can try stuff to attract new members, and it can flop after a lot of money is spent on it. Did NXT bring in lots of new members? After all, WoW has better graphics, and it was popular. But RuneScape posed a big compatibility challenge for a client with improved graphics - and NXT met that challenge, for the most part.

But even when the continuing teething troubles are fixed, and NXT works well, while it will benefit existing players, and maybe make the appearance of the game less off-putting to some new players, it is not likely to drive much in the way of new players. But I'm sure it cost a lot to implement - and it's going to cost some more yet to complete and maintain.

And, of course, the other thing is pay-to-play; that, unlike pay-to-win, is acceptable, and brings in real revenues. It has been kind of Jagex to grandfather at least the last two price increases.

Tagakhlo, I think this comprehensive Qutee gaming-today survey digest should give you the idea of what 10,000 gamers thought about modern time monetization, MTX, pay to win, among other ethical and psychological questions.

https://www.prweb.com/releases/2018/02/prweb15208581.htm

Basically, the survey revealed only 2% of the players are still stuck in the pay-one-price-for-all "buy-to-play but no more in game purchase" era, and only 22% of the overall players think pay to win is toxic.

It is a very interesting read. Whether you agree with the 2% voting for only buy-to-pay-or-bust, or the 22% of death-to-pay-to-win or the vast majority of the modern time gamers, it is totally up to you.

On the other side of the market, I believe the producers like Blizzard, EA, Jagex and such will all do what Natural Selection guides them to. I am a firm believer of Economic Darwinism.

Yes, the consumers (i.e. the players in our discussion) always have the final say but the producers like Jagex and such have no defense against Natural Selection. They don't just listen to 2% or 22% of their consumers, they need to listen to 100% of them. That's why you see PUBG replaced their originally planed traditional paid expansion with the pay to win Battle Pass, and Blizzard just unexpectedly removed the traditional pay-for-the-box up front Battle Chest and declined further comment for their once mighty MMORPG we called WoW.

Hi all

I have gone ahead and bumped this thread up since we have yet to receive any news.

The most recent update is from Mod Pebble on Twitter:

I appreciate that this forum is not dedicated to RunePass, but considering how this hardly constitutes a recent game update any longer, this seems like the least incorrect forum to place it in. I hope that anyone with feedback on the topic will be able to find this thread and leave feedback here regardless!

Thanks

Jagex definitely have provided a lot more information recently. For instance, just a week ago, Jmod Osborne wrote in regard to a Runepass Retrospective they have written:

Some key information include:
- they are rewriting it, perhaps to make it clearer, but the Retro will remain unchanged.
- XP issues will not be addressed.
- It will cover Runepass in detail, what worked and didn’t, and where that put us.

https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/98k1uk/what_happened_to_the_mtx_changes_jagex_talked/e4h0999/

What I see is Jagex seems to have mix feeling on Runepass. Something worked and some didn't and clearly Osborne showed XP is not an issue going to be addressed in the Retrospective.

Nope. XP is just a small part of Ocean Bounty.

Although it seems like if there is a next RunePass there will more than likely still be XP items there based on Mod Osborne's response, cosmetics may still be the main items.

In case if you don't know, Fortnite's sales are peaking too according to Superdata. Don't be surprised they will come up with new MTX initiatives in a couple of months. ;)

"In general, please figure out what you actually want to sell and then work with us to find an acceptable balance between profitability and non-intrusive, non-destructive content."

I agree, wholeheartedly. I have always supported Solomon's General Store, and cosmetic microtransactions. I don't have a problem with bonds, despite that being a way for players to buy GP from Jagex; let's be honest about the reason why players purchase bonds here. Sure, it provides the option for players who are dedicated and skill to not have to pay real world currency for their membership since other folks are willing to purchase the bond for the GP benefit.

The ability to buy bonus XP, or direct XP is arguably destructive content to the integrity of the game. Since Treasure Hunter has existed in this manner for such a period of time, the current community has gotten used to and tolerated it. That doesn't mean players support, or enjoy Treasure Hunter as a whole.

I don't have a problem with microtransactions remaining. I would be more willing to purchase cosmetic skins if Treasure Hunter was flat out removed. I wish Jagex would poll the community, and include the community in the conversation regarding the future of microtransactions rather than allowing a small group of J-Mods to dictate what promotions happen when TH has a vast impact on the economy, and game as a whole.
