Uh-huh, because you don't care about them? I did chose the comp cape in particular because I imagined you'd not like it being devalued by MTX cosmetics, to demonstrate that just like you wouldn't like it happening, there are people in the present who don't like the current MTX cosmetics devaluing non-MTX cosmetics, e.g. the drakes devaluing the summoning dragon pets. So it'd be pretty selfish to accept MTX that doesn't concern you, while being fine with that which concerns others, not to mention that if you let something like that pass, sooner or later you too would become a target of that kind of monetization, e.g. with a more lucrative cape than comp cape sold as MTX.

drakes and dragons arent the same cosmetic though. and comp is now a cosmetic anyway

you seem to be fishing for something that isnt there

It doesn't matter, because they're similar enough that they both appeal to the same players: a player who would've aimed for a baby dragon pet is now more inclined to just buy a drake instead, since not only does it fly, but it's also bigger and arguably "cooler" looking than a singular-color baby dragon.

But let's not focus too much on a singular example, because the main point is this: if you wouldn't be fine with non-MTX cosmetics that you like being devalued by MTX cosmetics, why then would you be fine with that same thing happening to others? And what makes you think you would get away with it, when Jagex has proven that it'll take a mile if you give it an inch? If they kept cosmetic MTX, they wouldn't stop at just what currently exists.

Because this is a free market. Companies have their choices and consumers have theirs. If you don't buy something, they sell the same thing to the others who love to buy. And it has been proven plenty of consumers have voiced their opinions happily with their wallets.

What makes you think some players would get away with MTX, when they have proven since 2012 that when Jagex put off some MTX promotions for a day they asked for Jagex not to make any profits at all until they go bankrupt?

Smart consumers know they don't walk into McDonald's and order a steak and wine dinner, especially when they are only willing to pay $0.99 for it. Why? Because McDonald's will just say:

"Next on line" leaving the "smart" consumers crying "McDonald's, why are you changing target audience"?

Doesn't matter if its free market since game devs only need <10% of players shell out the money to maintain the mtx. All the other players could quit the game for all they care.

You just described why mtx is aids and needs to go. kudos.

Whoever quit are replaced by even more new players (including paid members) who are proven to have not just attracted but more importantly also retained by Jagex's other promotions with partnership with the likes of Twitch, thanks to Umbral Chets.

Even more importantly, it showed MTX and membership as well as active players can all go up together. They all sit well with each other in Jagex's case. :)

How is 1/2 players lost in ~2years a success in any way, mind you we are talking about rs3 here not osrs, cause the latter doesn't have th.
R.I.P. rs3 2019.

Concurrent players are not the total playerbase of RS3 and OSRS. It is obvious OSRS lost almost half of their "players" in less than a year even without TH. It shows "concurrent" players loss has no correlation to TH.

Real World Financial Report shows Jagex has been getting more active players despite of the loss in concurrent players. Modern time players just stay online less often.
