You're not seeing government intervention because good guys like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony are carrying the dead weights that are EA and the ESA!

You don't know not only do these "good guys" develop their own games and publish other people's games with loot boxes but they also sell IRL loot boxes containing random items for real money? :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

You don't know that the word "good" is a relative word? They can be good compared to greedy companies like EA without needing to be perfect like CDPR. Perhaps you need to stop playing around semantics and use real arguments to back your points.

The "good" guys like Nintendo is chaning loot boxes in their games like Fire Emblem: Heroes and Animal Crossing in Belgium while the "bad" guys like Jagex and Princess Alice don't even need to Shrug!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Seemingly a few are still too slow to know the true meaning of the new RNG item transparency in these "good" guys requirements. It won't matter though. The ESA and the recently formed video game alliance like the FPA and the legal actions of the likes of Twitch against internet trolls know best... they are just weeding out the shady, shameless pretenders like illegal 3rd party sites and such so they can get even more $$$ for themselves, legally and righteously. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I wish I could share your optimism. You've been saying nothing will happen for more than a year now and yet we keep seeing progress all the time. Yet we get news like loot drop rate transparency, Parliament hearings, the US bill, the FTC hearing, Epic changing their lootbox mechanic to be more transparent, revelation that EA's former CEO (and Tribeflame CEO) openly admitting that they're exploiting player vulnerabilities to squeeze every penny from them, and many more.

Not all of the changes need to be successful, just a few, and it will be enough to push the industry away from RNG based MTX.

But I guess nothing has happened, right??

I have been saying the video game industry would self-regulate to weed out the bad apples like 3rd party illegal sites pretending to be video games, internet trolls and cyber criminals disguising as gamers, forumers and blogoers, etc. In fact, I welcome the self-regulation and have always been saying the industry was too slow to react. :D

I have been saying the governments, would not do anything. In fact, they didn't. What LAWS have been established? Utterly nothing. Failed US bills that no real government even touched. Failed unethical if not unlawful Belgium officials getting busted for leaking information and did not get in touch with the game industry representative who eventually were being put in the DOG HOUSE by the real EU governments and gambling commissions. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

So what has changed? Nothing in the Jagex's front since they have always been ready, willing and able to do what the video game industry and the REAL governments want everybody to. They always give the odds of their virtual items, even the boss loot, clue scrolls odds and such that the industry and the governments don't ask for. They always provide transparency voluntarily through mechanism like Clairvoyance which Epic is copying to their Llama loot boxes. So who is changed? Nope, not Jagex. :D

Summoning for a Parliament hearing = doing nothing?

Oh wow, didn't know it costs no tax payer money and MP's time for that. Same for FTC hearing.

Just because there are no new laws in place yet doesn't mean nothing has been done.

This. A lot has been done and rightfully so imo. I hope they chemically burn this ugly stain off our beloved gaming industry once and for all, but that's extremely optimistic, almost idealistic, as what is likely going to happen is that laws are going to be put in place that enforce regulations, like we have in casino's and other gambling right now, and games will adjust accordingly and keep doing their thing.

Ultimately, the only way to make it go is to take away the reason it came into existence in the first place, money. We as players have the most power over the future of these practices, far more than any government will ever have. Vote with your wallet.
Be the change you would like to see in the world.

I really can't help those people who can't tell the difference between invitation and summon.

Hint hint... One doesn't get "summoned" to the Oprah Winfrey Show. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

From the latest Superdata report on video game sales:

"As the free-to-play business model continues to take mindshare in the industry, publishers seem more open to significantly lowering unit prices for catalogue AAA franchises in order to expand the player base. EA’s Sims 4 and Take-Two’s NBA2K19, two franchises that benefit immensely from add-on content purchases, both saw huge spikes in unit sales after prices were brought down below $5."

https://www.superdataresearch.com/worldwide-digital-games-market/

Of course, free-to-play is dominating the marketplace as MTX drives their growth. Everybody and their moms are cutting price on,or even totally removing, box purchases and subscription has turned from single game to monthly subscription of a big basket of games like EA Origin and Google Stadia and such. That means MTX is even more important for a single game to survive.

Of course, we players vote with our wallets and guess who was the King of video game revenue last month we voted for?

Drum Roll.... Of course it i the heavily MTX, particularly loot boxes "infested" FIFA 19 followed by CoD: Black Ops 4.
