Paid shills hijacking the thread, such a sad state of affairs.

Paid shills? I don't see any here. You are complaining in the wrong place anyway.

To complain about "paid shills", you need to go to the FTC:

OP certainly failed to see in Feb 12, 2020 RS3 is still alive and prospering and Jagex is making more money than ever with both revenue from TH and membership well above that from 2017. So much for his comment "R.I.P. rs3 2019." made on 13-Aug-2017 15:02:01...

He also failed to see OSRS is also handing out a lot of cosmetics including the exclusive ones from the Twisted League dailyscape style temporary events, as well as the no requirements to kill OSRS Nightmare now in 2020 that "makes many OSRS achievments not really achievments, imho."

Now fully understanding the issue I am setting a mandatory latest date I am closing my account. Unless I see their drug-like addictive gambling features that target kids taken out I have no choice but to leave. Love this game but this has lasted too many years. Take the right step jagex or lose all your customers. Clearly people they won't learn unless you teach them. Play other games if you don't like it. Your money is your vote, enough with this greasy topic. Add a feature to allow gambling to be DISABLED and not popup every time you login if not fully remove it, or face the consequences of people continually leaving. Compare how many gambling updates there are on rs3 to how many boss updates etc. VERRRRY sad.

You may want to quit with the one threatening to quit in OSRS even when it has no TH then. I don't think Jagex care about just a couple of players quitting when they can get a lot more modern money from a lot more modern players in the game.

Don't you see they switched the Wednesday transparent jar (I don't remember what it was actually called) promotion back to Mythic Wednesday this week? Of course they are not removing TH. They said it numerous times and the strange thing is all those "quitting" players actually translate to more players and more revenue.

I agree that what we need to push for is a way to disable MTX. For people who don't want it to come up every time they log in but still want to enjoy the game, why not at least allow us to choose not to have it in our face all the time?

I also agree it is also sad that this is in the game for the kids who play it. Parents aren't going to know their kids are learning how to gamble by playing a game that looks ok on the surface.

I really enjoy the game but am really disappointed by how MTX preys on your emotions.

If Runescape truly was about to go bankrupt because of not training kids, teens, and adults to engage in something that CAN BE very addictive and unhealthy like treasure hunter, then they either need to ask for donations from people who love the game or fold. They shouldn't be relying on something that hurts the mental health of some of its community. At least we need an option to disable it in the settings.

GROW UP. Being an adult means being responsible for your actions. Don't blame Jagex because YOU bought TH keys. It is your fault. There is nothing in RuneScape forcing you to buy keys or pay for anything other than your membership which you can now do without even paying real money.

The gifts that we have been given in this game are overlooked because thousands of whiny people now can't take responsibility for their own actions and have to complain about EVERY LITTLE THING.

If you don't want MTX in this game then go about it like adults do. Don't spend your money on it. The player base and dollars will decide if it needs to stay in the game. It's called voting with your dollars. Complaining like CHILDREN will not change anything and only slows down progress.

It is true that we can each as an individual close the little box every day when we log in and we can avoid buying the keys. But only to a degree.

First, for people to do something, they generally need a community. We could build a community that supports each other to eschew treasure hunter—to close that little shaking chest box each day. I'm all for that, let's do it. But having support from others is important.

Second, gambling addictions are no joke. The habits that are created by something like daily keys set up neural pathways that are very hard to battle against. It isn't a simple issue of individual responsibility. It is also an issue of building neural pathways that are addictive. There is a biological element to training people to get a hit of dopamine and serotonin when they engage in a gambling activity. Not everyone will be affected in the same way—you maybe are not affected much by this. But many people are. It isn't a simple matter of choice.

We AT LEAST need an option in the settings to disable treasure hunter if we feel that it is not good for our mental health or is not for us for any other reason.

It's 2019 and ppl dont buy keys? You will be laughed at if you never bought keys.

I bought keys only with gp earned in game (via bonds), and only used them on cosmetics promotions.

Essentially to me, TH is just another regular game play content. There is no MTX factor to me.
Yep, TH is just like skilling, PVM, or questing.

Couldnt agree more.

It would be like skilling, PVM, or questing IF you had 2 keys a day and that was it. Or if you could only buy more keys with gp (like with the "loop half of key" etc. in the game). But the prompt to pay at the end of each time you engage in treasure hunter is what makes it far different.
