If the goal was to balance the game, there should be a limit per day on how much XP you can get from MTX/oddments/etc.

If the goal was to balance the game, Treasure Hunter would be removed altogether; limiting how much you can cheat per day is pointless, it doesn't please the cheaters since it's going to inconvenience them, and it doesn't please non-cheaters since cheating would still be allowed.

There are bots among cheaters in all kinds of game features in all kinds of video games. You don't remove good game features just because a few cheaters.

People are known to use stolen credit cards to buy membersship too, but are we going to remove subscriptions just because a few people cheat?

I don't think RS3 would make enough money to be profitable without TH. OSRS can survive without MTX but that's because their dev team is much smaller.

Aha! This post from Page 2, way way way and years years years back rings the bell.

Now that OSRS has to hire more people and pay influencers to survive, hence they are adopting Partnership in open arms even when it was voted down by the community by a landslide last years. They are even talking about letting people change in game status (not limited to name change) like Leagues resets too. :D

MTX is definitely needed for a game to survive. This thread fails miserably as times go by and natural selection kicks in.

With the announcement of the upcoming removal of action bar MTX in yesterday's news post, it came across as if they intend to do the same with more than just the action bars, so if you're listening Jagex, how about you remove Treasure Hunter next and "provide great value" by designing the actual gameplay to be fun to play, rather than having the player buy to skip it with TH keys? Cheers in advance!

Update: Bank preset MTX has also been announced to be removed!

https://old.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/kvvylu/mod_mic_just_confirmed_theyre_making_all_bank/

As before, both of these should've been free for all members from the start, but removing them even after all this time is still the right thing to do. Better late than never!

Anyway, with two anti-customer practices removed so far, how about removing the worst one yet next, Treasure Hunter? You should provide great value by designing the gameplay to be fun to play, not something you'd rather pay to skip. Third time's the charm, yes? :)

Glad to see though that even Jagex agrees with these actions that MTX should be removed, so there's no need to apologize for MTX anymore: they can and should be removed.

They will need to remove Bonds first because it is the most anti-customer pay to win practices in all games that we can buy all the endgame and BiS gear without doing a thing.

Jagex won't remove bonds though. I can live with that because we can all buy bonds with gp we earned from playing RS3. And I am glad that RS3 hasn't added exclusive Partnership benefits like Early Access betas and items that can only be obtained from paying real money for Partnership like Purple Skin. :)

Bonds are a great way to undercut gold sellers and reduce bots while also fulfilling the demand people have for gold. The issue with bonds however, is it incentivizes jagex producing content that can simply be bought. When's the last time top tier armor was locked behind a quest requirement?

Regardless, TH is still more damaging to the game.

We can't gamble with TH in the Sand Casino but we can do it with bonds.

TH is hardly damaging mainly because vast majority of the prizes aren't tradeable and the very few tradeable ones are dirt cheap comparing to the cost of a TH key.

TH is only "damaging" to people who only cares for XP, but bond is damaging to everybody who are opposed to all kind of pay to win mechanisms, not just pay to get xp.

No support.

I enjoy Treasure Hunter.

I also agree with some of your statements that it might make some of the accomplishments not as meaningful anymore. However, there are quite a lot of helpful items in TH that assist skills I enjoy.

So there are pros/cons to TH.

I doubt they will remove or even consider removing it in the foreseeable future.

Thank you for your feedback.

Some of the items like portables could easily be implemented outside of TH. :>
