If Runescape truly was about to go bankrupt because of not training kids, teens, and adults to engage in something that CAN BE very addictive and unhealthy like treasure hunter, then they either need to ask for donations from people who love the game or fold. They shouldn't be relying on something that hurts the mental health of some of its community. At least we need an option to disable it in the settings.
Grinding hurts the mental health of some of its community according to ICD-11 of WHO, not TH, but Jagex is not going to disable grinding in the settings and it won't go bankruptcy at all. It is making more money than most MMORPGs.

I agree that what we need to push for is a way to disable MTX. For people who don't want it to come up every time they log in but still want to enjoy the game, why not at least allow us to choose not to have it in our face all the time?
I also agree it is also sad that this is in the game for the kids who play it. Parents aren't going to know their kids are learning how to gamble by playing a game that looks ok on the surface.
I really enjoy the game but am really disappointed by how MTX preys on your emotions.
Kids below 13 needs the consent of their parents to play this game. Sorry, you seem quite out of touch. Sorry that you are disappointed by how MTX preys on your emotions, however Bond MTX has been in Jagex's games for 7 years. Players obviously have no problems with pay to win mechanisms.
It is true that we can each as an individual close the little box every day when we log in and we can avoid buying the keys. But only to a degree.
First, for people to do something, they generally need a community. We could build a community that supports each other to eschew treasure hunter—to close that little shaking chest box each day. I'm all for that, let's do it. But having support from others is important.
Second, gambling addictions are no joke. The habits that are created by something like daily keys set up neural pathways that are very hard to battle against. It isn't a simple issue of individual responsibility. It is also an issue of building neural pathways that are addictive. There is a biological element to training people to get a hit of dopamine and serotonin when they engage in a gambling activity. Not everyone will be affected in the same way—you maybe are not affected much by this. But many people are. It isn't a simple matter of choice.
We AT LEAST need an option in the settings to disable treasure hunter if we feel that it is not good
First we already have a community that supports MTX since the introduction of Bonds in 2012. We also have a community that supports "gambling addiction" at Sand Casino since 2004. The Community never had a problem because games of chance within a video game aren't any different than grinding other content like fishing/mining 24/7 in term of "addiction", and it is not even gambling if the players don't turn in game currencies/gp into real money or items.

Why are you grave bumping a 2 months old thread? Nobody has anything to add?
The longstanding issues that Treasure Hunter inflicts on the game are still relevant. Jagex have mentioned things like reworks and duty of care numerous times, yet neither of these have come to fruition, and Treasure Hunter continues to damage both the integrity of the game and the way content is introduced.
You've already made your positions clear. If you have a problem with my bumps, take it to forum help.

The TH rework has already been done a long time ago. Everybody can see now we can see the rewards before we pick the one we needed.
Which actually makes it even MORE overpowered, dealing more damage to the game's integrity. Hence why it needs to be actually removed.
Players asked for the transparency. Jagex announced the project. Jagex completed an delivered it months ago. Players are fine with the soloution. That answered your question on post 7 of this page already.
You have already expressed your opinion and it is nothing new. Thank you for it and have a nice day.
